This song and their song Never Can Say Goodbye were absolutely guaranteed to fill up the dance floor past max capacity in 1986. Impossible not to dance to. Thanks for the calorie burn I just did! 😛💃

I remember meeting Jimmy Summerville in Paris at a club, La Luna in the 80s. I was extremely shy in front of him, and he was so nice. He bought me a drink and we danced together. One of the most beautiful days of my life. ...

Jimmy Sommerville has one of the most recognizable countertenor voices on the planet. I've always enjoyed listening to him. "Smalltown Boy," "You Make Me Feel," "Hurts So Good," and "Why" are some of my personal faves. Say what you will about the lyrics and the meanings of a quite a few of his songs, the beat and the musicality is hard to ignore.

This was a HUGE HIT back in '86. A sure dancefloor filler! One of the best dance songs of the entire decade! Pure 80s awesomeness!!!!!!! (Even though it's actually a cover from a 60s song which had already been covered by Thelma Houston in the 70s as a disco song) I absolutely LOVE this song still to this day and can't help but start dancing every time I hear it!
@TheClairem752 жыл бұрын
Welcome back! Best way to get back on track is with an 80s banger! It’s a cover of an old disco number by Thelma Houston and was a huge hit in 86 after Bronski Beat. You got his name right! He can still hit those notes too.

Just a bit o' trivia. The guy playing the piano is Richard Coles. AKA The Reverand Richard Coles-an actual Anglican vicar. He joined the church after his time in the band. He still does stand-up and appears on TV panel shows as a sideline.

I love Jimmy's voice and the energy he puts into his music, it's so hard for me to sit still listening to this song but its painful to dance or move. Thank you so very much for playing this and I'm so glad it wasn't blocked as watching them dancing is a real treat. God bless you sweetheart, love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK

The Communards came after Jimmy Somerville left Bronski Beat, I believe. Richard Coles (the guy on the piano) once said they were "trying to take down Margaret Thatcher by recording covers of 70s hits" or something to that effect. And admitted laughingly that that may have been a bit ambitious. 🤣 My favourite of Jimmy's - which he recorded solo imho - is "You make me feel" (another 70s cover). I can NOT listen to that song without dancing. :)
