Ok, as a samus player in ultimate there are some very important things you’re missing 1: the biggest change for samus was not the dash attack nerf but the charge shot buff. Now it comboed into things and gave samus disgustingly high damage combos from 0% that rivaled or surpassed 1.0 Olimar. 2: Aerial charging and B reversing seriously opened up samus’ movement, allowing her to kind of charge her shot for free in many cases. Now instead of knocking opponents back and using the time to charge up, she could use her own time being knocked back to charge, and instead press advantage super hard when she netted a neutral win 3: Bombs now had a quicker contact hitbox making their ledge trapping capabilities way stronger and making them even better in neutral In any case, the PERCEPTION of samus at the beginning of ultimate was completely misguided, and people didn’t even know that charge shot comboed into her kit. To be honest, if 1.0 or 2.0 samus had survived until present day she might even be HIGHER on the tier list because of just how badly she shredded through shields and could reliably shield poke everyone in the cast. That’s all

doobi Indeed. The clips of the top players overreacting to her were a little cringey. Long time Samus mains had to take their time to fully understand her kit. Meanwhile, most top players scramble to put out their opinions and reactions as quickly as possible, so their early views on Samus are going to be rushed and uninformed.

The amount of shield damage charge shot, along with a few other projectiles was reduced in a patch a several months ago. So charge shot + missile can't break a full shield anymore, unless they keep holding shield after it hits or it was already damaged before they hit. But yeah it used to be even more scary

I'm not a Samus main but I got a pocket one ans i've played her in all smash game. Imo ultimate is her best incarnation with melee. She's most likely high tier and online she's top tier lol.

I'm not the first person to say this but yeah: Pros were flat-out wrong about Samus when Ultimate released, and some of that misinformation is still in this video. Like, her dash attack in Ultimate doesn't combo as well but it kills a lot earlier. She has more KO options overall, not less. And the buff to charge shot (charged and uncharged) were just completely overlooked, for some reason. Samus in Ultimate was always a good character. People just took almost two years to stop listening to people who formed their opinions way too quickly. Not trying to come of as condescending or anything. I just noticed this stuff right away because I started maining Samus right before Ultimate came out so the positive transition was really obvious to me.

Ive been super happy with her overall. I picked her up in Melee and mained her since(Brawl was a dark time. So slow and was so hard to find my groove with her). I do miss being able to up air into up special though

@@grennbalze umm you can still do it tho, lol. Even better now in ultimate u can chain down throw into 2 or 3 upairs or finish it with up b for approx 35% to 45%, also you can bait a defensive option and slap a chargeshot if your aim is correct.

You keep saying "Nintendo" doesn't know what to do with Samus, or that "Nintendo" patched the game. Nintendo published the game and licensed the characters, but did not develop the game. Smash Bros Ultimate was developed jointly by Sora Ltd and Bandai/Namco. You could at least say "Sakurai," the name of the game's director. "Nintendo" just sounds uninformed. It bugs me.

When Melee came out, my friends and I were hooked. I love the Metroid series, so Samus was one of the characters I played most. I thought I was better with Mario or Bowser, but every time I picked Samus, you'd hear my friends groan. They knew shit was about to get real. I was like, "What? I feel like I'm better with Mario." "No, dude. No." It was interesting to learn from this video that she ranked so low throughout the series. Never would have guessed. Cool video, man.

Lol. I had a simi one time. Me and my friends were having a smash tournament at my place. There were like 8 of us. Pizza, soda, and smash. We were playing Brawl, which I HATE, but it's still smash, so.. But my buddy was a nightmare with Marth and Ike, and would always give me a fit, until I used my main: Samus. I'll never forget being the last to pick one time, cause I got up and got a slice, but I came back and dallied on who to pick, and I could just feel the toes in the room curl as I went up and to the left. Her air game is simply unmatched. You can do this all day to Bayonetta, Cloud, Shulk, Lucina, Chrom, or any other Gen z favorite. They scream. Their eyes melt. Especially if they're competitive. 23 years exp.

64: is kinda meh, only really good against Jigglypuff and Japan Melee: was really good but is now currently a mid tier Brawl: why are you not using the far superior Zero Suit? 4: started off as complete trash but eventually became a good mid tier and excellent secondary Ultimate: was complete trash but got buffed and is good again. I'm settled on Ultimate Samus. And I'm proud of my younger bro and cousin playing her too. They've have close Samus ditto matches between one another and one bro even beat MY Samus in a Samus ditto. Some of my discord peers hate playing Samus and sound like they thought Samus was already too OP for buffs. They might've been in that mindset if they met me at launch. My Ultimate Samus easily tore through nearly every player I met in quick play at Launch, probably thanks to the similarities in handling fresh off playing Smash4 Samus daily. What I like most though is online team games where my Samus is sometimes good enough to take back 1 vs 2 loosing fights. Like, with both approaching enemies taking a back air and at least one of them dying from it.

What I do hate about Samus in Smash is not if she viable or not, but her design. I mean; if you make samus using the miis she has a better representation of her games. Her attacks are not that representative from her games. Up Smash and forward air are fire attacks. Her only fire attacks are on metroid prime using plasma beam. She has other m design but she doesn't have other m's movement. If she had other m's movement, she would be so much greater and fun to play. She has 3 more frames in her rolling and she cannot crawl. And her most representative thing has never been in smash, which is the freaking Ice beam. I think her better representation in smash is in project m. There Samus is just greater and funny to play.

Miguel Pinedo I like playing Other M Samus too! But it's just not as available and practical as Ultimate and has the smooth control difference a mod would end up with compared to a supported 1st party title. I'm ok wth her 64 iteration locking her move set to a familiar base now that they've made charge shot to dash attack kill combos fun to pull off. If Samus were to be given a closer Mii like iteration in Smash I'd want it done over a seperat character slot, just like Toon Link. Maybe even like a Mii with Samus's true up and Down specials and tether grapple beam added.
