Hi Coach, I just started playing tennis again after a 25 year hiatus, and I have been playing for about a year now. I diagnosed with diabetes so I started a tennis channel to help others out, and get proper exercise. I spoke to you in a footwork video and asked you about burning out from playing too much tennis. I used to be rated a 4.0 in singles and a 4.5 in doubles and I trained my ass off to teach those levels in the late 80s and mid 90s. My backhand was one of best shots and I played with a Wilson Profile 95 which I still play with, but I have modern strings. When I was taught I was taught to hit extremely flat and the ball would literally clear the net no more than a foot. Now I am about a 3.0 in singles, and I am about a 3.5 to 4.0 in doubles, because of my serve and my ability to put away overheads and volleys. But my backhand is complete trash in singles and I run around it most of the time and hit angle cross court shots to pull my opponent off the court, then I try ripping the ball down the line, but that strategy works on about 5 out of 10 times because I will mess the down the line either long, wide or sometimes I hit the top part of the tape on the net. I have been trying a new racquet the Wilson Blade v6 98 but the strings are trash so I don’t know if I can play good with the racquet because the strings feel like shoe strings. Plus it’s not as thick as the profile and the weight is lighter, as the Blade is 10.9 ounces and my profile is 13.9 ounces and weighs about 370 grams. I am trying to learn modern swings and use topspin but my foot work is so bad on the backhand side I feel like a pregnant elephant 🐘! I am wondering if there is a racquet that is stiff as the profile but not so think as the profile? Because I like the blade, but I serve better and volley better with the profile, and the profiles are made of Kevlar. I like a stiffer racquet, do you have any suggestions on racquets I can demo. I also have been stringing my racquets 35 on the mains and 31 crosses, the seems to give me more feel on the racquet. I am also going to practice your video lessons, especially on the footwork videos. Thanks for the suggestions and advice my friend.

Good evening Shaun, thank you so much for the comments! What I would recommend is practice the two-handed backhand and see if you like it better but also practice the one-handed backhand and see which one you like better. I would recommend you check other videos on the one-handed backhand. I will make that video about the one-handed back end later in the beginner series. I know you talked about hitting flat and that's really good if you're a serve and volleyer especially back in the day. But nowadays we hit with a lot more toss bin and a lot more height over the net. So the ball stays deep And so the opponent gives you a short ball To attack. Well I would recommend for your game style is to hit topspin deep shots at the baseline but once you get the short ball, hit a flatter shot Possibly down the line. What I would recommend though is do not hit winners at the baseline. When you get a short ball, don't Overkill it either. Just keep the ball and play with direction and depth and then follow it to the net. I don't know if you come to the net a lot, but it seems like with your flatter shots it might be good. Again, thanks so much for the comment! I am glad you are enjoying my videos.
