I'm guessing it was because the Controversial Story in the first game, and the fact that the Writers from that game were also Fired, so the new writers not knowing where they were going after MW19, came up with their own story and went a different direction. Add in the fact Activision interferes, forcing them to make MWIII, and so the DLC Expansion for MWII was repacked to look like a new MWIII, terrible.

as someone who started on the Black Ops Series (WaW on the wii 😂 and then playstation for the rest), i can honestly say the (Original) Modern Warfare series goes so deep and beyond expectations. no character has plot armor. and with so many of them you'd think they'd be meh but no they're all good. you dont get games like this these days.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is a standalone game in the Call of Duty franchise. It may share connections to CODMW2, but it's fully independent and not on the timeline.

i'd like to point out that there exist THREE diffrent timelines. The OG MW story, the OG Black Ops story, and the Warzone storyline that is a reboot/reimagining of both of the ealier mentioned stories. Imran Zakhaev being in the KGB talking with Gorbachev about arms deal in Black Ops Cold War is non-canonical to the original Black Ops story and especially the original MW storyline, but is a part of the new, shared universe between the two, where Black Ops characters exist in the same place as the reboot MW versions of Price, Soap, Ghost ect.

@TRG_R17 yes it did. I'm pretty sure imran zakhaev was never even mentioned or seen in a Black Ops game before the Warzone integration of all of the games happened. Plus, Perseus bunkers seen as part of the Atomgrad raids of MWII and in one mission in MWIII. There is no way in hell that the OG timeline Black Ops games, made before 2019, are in the same universe as the Warzone timeline. I can understand the confusion, the Warzone BO timeline is super similar to the OG one, but it isn't the same, since Vangaurd, WW2 (2017) and reboot MW games are now as one continous chronology.

They should have continued from the original series and had Price come in the American Army as a general and have all new characters to get to know and fall in love with. Simply called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 instead of a what turned into a shitty reboot.
