Just finished reading the second novel. Never would have guessed that Duncan Idaho had such an important part to the story. If the film series takes off, Jason Momoa can cost on this series for a long time.

Yes I'm interested in seeing where they decide to go if the movies continue doing well. Whether they stick to the canon or not. Personally I think some of this story would be better suited for HBO Max. You're right though Jason Momoa would have a significant role in a God Emperor of Dune film.

@@kesardogra5529 It's perfectly fine to not like it after 2 or 3 since your main cast is essentially gone. And most consider 3 the end of a trilogy. If you're looking for a point to the saga as a whole I would say it's about the survival of the human race, and the influence of these worshipped leaders. With the through line of the saga being the Atreides bloodline.

Haha that's fair but books 2 and 3 have been adapted to television before with moderate success. And the director of the new movie did have some interest in making a trilogy and ending on the second book Dune Messiah. Even though that's kind of a worse note to end on. I'd be very interested in them trying to adapt books 4-6 just for the ride. Seeing what kind of monstrosity the God Emperor turns into on the big screen would be a trip.

2 And 3 are coming to the big screen as well. Just watched dune 2 ending with the end of the first book, with some changes but I'd reckon for the better it was way more satisfying than the book that is. I look forward to see how long they'll spend portraying the holy war against the houses from Paul's Side.. As Paul is indeed still who the legend was about, but he is a small part of the grander scheme.

WOW. Dune book 1 was really good and had such promise to be a great series. Dune Messiah was not too bad, but not a lot happened. Children of Dune was ok but I started not to like the direction the series was going so I gave up after that book and watched this video to get the rest of the story. Now I wish I stopped after book 1. I think I'd have a higher opinion of Dune if I did. I actually really liked the Dune 2021 movie, and I am excited to see Dune part 2.

I have only read a few. They aren't bad, but they are drastically different from the 6 Frank Herbert wrote. They read more Young Adult and tend to over explain and are much longer than they should be. If you liked the original books for their complexity you will likely be disappointed in the Extended Universe Dune books. I'd say try one and go from there.

Yes, I agree you would lose a lot of people after book 3. Probably before that even if they didn't alter anything. Book 4 and beyond does still have House Atreides. It's just later bloodlines. I wouldn't worry too much though there is no announcement to continue anything after the third movie which will be based on Dune Messiah.

Yeah the plot does kind of go off the rails, but I found all Frank Herbert's books to be very enjoyable. You'll probably still be able to like the Dune movies because the director is only committed to a trilogy right now. Which presumably will end on Dune Messiah. If they take some liberties with the source material they could make it an ending. And that would be before most people think the story takes a really odd turn.

Honestly, after "Dune: Messiah" , for me anyways, it's no longer "Dune" (even if "Children of Dune" has Paul in it). . Maybe it's because to me it seems like the guy didn't know how to end a story so he kept on changing the goal post, but Dune 3,4,5,6 sound stupid. Maybe they are the best books ever written, but, they are different story riding in the popularity of the name "Dune". Basically, although it's still hard work, it's easier to expand on existing lore, rather than starting from scratch.

I mean it's a fair take. I don't think Frank Herbert was trying to bank off the success of the first book though. Pretty sure he just just enjoyed doing his own thing. If he was writing them for success he would've given the people what they wanted.
