I obviously don't own every domestic duck breed out there, but one day I hope to!
In the meantime, if you guys have any questions about other breeds and their uses I would be more than happy to answer!
Enjoy!

I live in a gated lame community an hour south of Chicago. Last week i had a blue swedish, magpie, and 2 kahki's show up after work. After feedkng them trout chow, the remained until morning and the entire day as my wife continued feeding them. Next night after work i went to a supply store, got a 50# bag of duck food. Today is 8 days later and i am converting an old 8x4 wood bin into an enclosure. They feed by hand, allow petting, leave at night and arrive back around 5:15, 15 minutes before i leave for work. We are loving these 4 ladies. No sign of eggs yet, so assuming were all chicks this spring.

awww that’s so sweet! i’m sure they’re so grateful for the food you’re giving them! I wonder where they came from? are you planning on keeping them long term? sometimes stress and malnourishment can keep them from laying so you may see eggs sooner than you think!
@toddvincent266
@toddvincent266 3 жыл бұрын
Hope to keep them long term. Have all the supplies to make the coop tomorrow. The swedish likes to be petted, the campbells seem to pick on the magpie, which is my favorite. I tried kale, lettuce, chopped grapes, watermelon, minnows, worms, and peas. Peas so far being their favorite. Any other suggestions?

@@toddvincent266 I'd say you're already giving them a gourmet buffet! I like to cut up a watermelon, scrape some of the insides out and fill it with frozen veggies mixed with the scooped out watermelon. It's my duck's favorite summer treat!

Most of your ducks seem calm when you held them , You must spend a lot of time with your ducks! Great video.Do you sell your fertile eggs for hatching?
@QuackProductionsChannel
@QuackProductionsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly it depends on which duck I'm holding😅they're just really well behaved for the camera, and I give them lots of treats afterwards. I actually don't handle them very often because I got most of them in large groups as ducklings and they imprinted on each other instead of me. I'm currently incubating two eggs so that I can have two companion ducks who will be super friendly and who I can film with and take on adventures, so I'm really excited about that. I haven't sold my eggs yet because I'm not an expert at determining fertility yet and I don't want to sell people bad eggs, but I'm definitely considering it in the future when I'm more experienced!

Which would you consider to be the quietest among the females? We want to get egg laying ducks but we are in the burbs and they need to be quieter. I’ve had muscovies before so I’d like to try something else

I would say in my own experience my Cayugas have been the quietest, right next to my muscovies. My runners are usually pretty quiet but sometimes when they go adventuring around the yard they make excited squeaking noises lol.

I finished a 9x4 house for them, 4' tall at the back, 40" in the front, 8x4 lid opens, with 2 front doors 30" tall, and 46" wide. Has top side vents, Any idea on how to get tbem in there? Tried traing their fav. Veggies and fruit.. Fail.. Tried fencing to force herd them, wouldnt go near the fencing...

@@toddvincent266 it's all in the bribe. I feed my ducks in the morning but I don't leave food out all day, they just forage. But they're spoiled and like pellets a lot more so in the evening I toss a couple scoops of pellets in their coop and they all sprint right in. You just have to create scarcity and lure them with treats.

I kept many ducks, but my favourite every are the Campbell ducks... with the white variety looking the most beautiful. I loved white ducks with yellow bills, but I found the Pekin ducks got too big and too fat and got leg problems when they were older. The smaller Campbell ducks were much more nice to look at in my opinion... and WOW... you will never be short of duck eggs!! They also when broody and raised their own ducklings fine too.. which the Pekin ducks rarely if ever do.

Wow!! You have so many breeds altogether !!! 💙 how do you distinguish how many eggs each duck lays. I’ve read that they can lay eggs in random spots, just curious how you keep track.
@QuackProductionsChannel
@QuackProductionsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
with so many females (32 I believe), it’s really hard to keep track of who’s laying what. they all pretty much lay their eggs in the coop in the middle of the night, although a few lay them in specific spots in the yard. they’ve dug little nests next to the fence on the sides of the yard and they’ll lay eggs in there. most of them have a favorite laying spot so I just have to make sure to check those every day :)

hi! i would like to get some ducks in the spring i am getting 2 pekins and a mallard as a chick but mallards and rouen ducks look super simaler and i dont want to end up with a rouen duck. how would i tell the difference between ducklings?
@QuackProductionsChannel
@QuackProductionsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
If you buy them from an online hatchery, or a breeder, they will clip one back toe off of the mallard ducklings so that if they were to get into the wild, park services would be able to identify it as a domestic mallard. The rouens have both of their back toes intact

@@QuackProductionsChannel thank you i think i am getting them from a place called federated co ops but as a last resort it would have to be tractor supply do they do that?
@QuackProductionsChannel
@QuackProductionsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
In the spring tractor supply does usually carry ducklings, from what I've seen different locations receive different breeds. For example, the one near me had Pekins, Khaki Campbell, blue Swedish and rouen. Your best bet would probably be to buy them online. Tractor Supply, Purely Poultry, and Metzer Farms all sell ducklings. Some even sell them year round.

If you're talking about the different duck breeds then yes. However, if you breed any domestic duck with a Muscovy, the offspring will be sterile and will not be able to have babies. For example, though, you could breed a Pekin and a Cayuga, or an Indian Runner and a Rouen and you would just get some interesting looking ducks who could still bear offspring

The Ducks You Don't Know Which breed of ducks it is The Overberg duck was created by crossing Krombek, Danish Campbell, Streicher, Welsh Harlequin, Gimbsheimer and Orpington ducks. It is still a fairly young variety, a creation of Hans Ringnalda from Overberg. It is a cozy and healthy duck, with its own color pattern. The drake has a light lilac-blue head, which is bordered by a closed white neck ring. The chest and flanks are mahogany. The transom and tail are the same color as the head. The male has a yellow bill. The female is lighter in color and has a blue bill.
