It is hilarious to me the fact that the biggest selling point or “credibility” to these Friedberg/Seltzer Movie Movies was that they were “2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie” when they had nothing to do with Scary Movie and only received credit on the film because they wrote a similar horror movie parody that Miramax was developing before they decided to buy the Wayans’ script.

11:41 As a Hispanic myself, I can testify on this. Thing is, we have a taste for juvenile, bootleggy, ghetto flavored content, especially since the general way these movies are structured appeals to the edge Spanish humor has. We even have more of a tendency to laugh at the crap factor and treat it as part of the experience. Stuff like White Chicks and the Friday movies for example are HUGE for us, and considering those movies have an African-American audience as well, I think they overlap here as well. Most of these movies are still guilty pleasures of mine, even as a tough critic....except for The Starving Games. THAT movie is SO terrible even WE hated it.

These movies used to be fun even when they were terrible, but you could really tell by the end the creators weren't even trying anymore. Everyone hated Meet The Spartans, but that was the last one I actually got a few chuckles out of. Unlike most people, I'll usually sit all the way through a bad movie if for no other reason than to complete the experience, but their Hunger Games parody is one of the few movies I hated so much even I turned it off halfway through. At that point it felt like they produced the whole thing out of spite for their critics because they knew there was no future in it anyway.

Tbh after Hats Off Entertainment’s video about how the Zucker Brothers basically stole jokes and full on lines from other movies and shows for Airplane and the Naked Gun films without citing the original inspirations for the jokes, I feel everyone owes Seltzerberg an apology for copying full lines and scenes from other films. I’m not defending the movies they made they are god awful and the worst movies for a reason but after the damning evidence from that video and the fact that Seltzerberg were inspired by the works of the Zuckers, Seltzerberg was more out in the open on what they were stealing from, while the Zuckers were more discreet on the stuff they stole.

I'm not gonna say Date Movie is in any way good, but compared to their later films down the line, it's the "best" one out of their filmography. Not that's really saying a whole lot. But for the most part, it attempts to stick to the genre it's supposedly trying to make fun of. Granted it still inserts random shit in there like Napoleon Dynamite, King Kong, or Kill Bill, that have nothing to do with romantic films, but it's nowhere near as egregious compared to Epic Movie or Disaster Movie. I still have a dvd copy of it. It was a guilty pleasure for 13 year old me. I re-watched Epic Movie and Date Movie a few years ago and they did not age well 😬. I still love the Scary Movie series (except for 5). Superhero Movie is underrated. I re-watched it in january and it's still a great time. I haven't seen Meet the Spartans in years lol.

I saw this film on... I think it was on HBO? It feels like most who are familiar with this film caught it on TV and it's always the Calvin and The Chipmunks scene that gets brought up. Personally I remember laughing at that scene when I saw it with my sibling but I always hear how that part scared people especially kids.

the only thing I actually kinda want if it still or exists is the Disaster Movie poster that's in the style of The Simpsons Movie poster. but, while I've seen the one poster mocking The Day After Tomorrow film. but, I've never seen both the one mocking The Simpsons Movie and 4th Indiana Jones movie, EVER. but, I would love it if I had Disaster Movie poster that's in the style of The Simpsons Movie poster at some point if there even is a actual touchable poster lying out there in the wild of that because if that does exist then I would kinda like it if I had it in my Teenage/Adult/Autistic like bedroom someday.

Vampires suck is actually pretty good if you watch the twilight movies afterwards. It's hilarious how little they exaggerated in comparison to the real movies. Also, the party scene was surprisingly spoofing cloverfield.

I didn't watch Disaster Movie. I made a point of avoiding these movies after seeing Date Movie. I loved The Naked Gun Trilogy and Airplane duology but thought that even the wonderful Leslie Nielson was running out of steam in Spy Hard and Wrongully Accused, along with parody movies in general. Yet, Leslie Nielson 's weaker comedies were far, far better than Date Movie and anything else Seltzer and Friedberg made.
