That's so beautifully put. Aragorn has never been the most compelling hero to me, because he seems too perfect; especially in the movies, he always does the right thing and always seems to be right. King Theoden, by contrast, had such palpable vulnerability to him as a King. When he went to his fathers, in whose mighty company he would not now feel ashamed, it felt so earned. Needless to say, the same goes for the recently-late Bernard Hill, who brought so much to Middle-Earth through his supremely Shakespearean portrayal of one of its most compelling figures.

I believe that some of the Edain who survived the War of Wrath but didn't go to Númenor fled over the Ered Luin as far east as Rhovanion and merged with their ancient kin who never traveled farther west. As an interesting note, the two marriages of kings of Rohan to women from the line of the princes of Dol Amroth introduced an Elvish strain into the royal house of the Rohirrim.

Curious: Was anyone else at least a little sad that Theodin did not also honor Theodred with his final speech to Eowyn as he was dying on Pellenor Fields? I wanted this instead: “I go to my fathers. And to my son. Even in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed.” I understand he’s speaking to the glorious bravery of his ancestors and how he now feels worthy to join them in whatever afterlife awaits. Yet as a man who has lost both a father and a son, I could not fathom my final thought on this earth-no matter the circumstances surrounding my death-excluding my child who died before me. I loved my father deeply and my heart broke when he died, but his death-like the death of his father before him-followed the natural course of things. My son’s death turned the universe upside down. It has never been righted, but I have adapted to an upside down universe. I had to. For my living children. I still cannot hear Theoden’s anguished line to Gandalf without weeping. “No parent should have to bury their child.” Read that dialogue out loud and out of context from this film. It is bare, howling and universally, eternally true.

Two minor mistakes, at 33:56, you say King Walda comes to the throne of Rohan in the year 2780 when his father Brytta dies. But TA 2780 is the year Walda is born, not the year he is coronated. Walda ascends the throne on the year of Brytta's death, TA 2842, which allows for the 43 years for King Brytta to be at war with the Orcs to believe they are all defeated. I originally got confused because you said in TA 2799 the Orcs come, and Brytta fights them for 43 years, but then Walda comes to the throne in TA 2780, which is 19 years before the Orcs even arrive. Also at 27:14 you say the "After Deor's death in TA 2741", but you should say King Gram's death in TA 2741, since he is Helm's father, and Helm follows him as King directly afterwards. Wonderful video as always though. These lore videos are such a treasure!
