My old Dell finally took a dump on me and I had to get a new Dell and of course it came with Windows 11 and I know absolutely nothing about it with the exception of being able to access KZbin thankfully. I subscribed and liked your video so I can "Hopefully" come back and take baby steps until I get the hang of what I'm dealing with. As a side note I already learned from your video how to increase the Font size so I'm not straining my poor tired old eyes to read what I'm typing.

Very helpful overview of windows . . . The TROUBLESHOOTERS in windows hardly ever work for me and can be frustrating. My wife is a novice user. She asked me why Microsoft does 'changes' and 'updates' without notification that make her computing experience worse. I informed her that MS has been doing this for years, and it's how they irritate users.

Heh heh, dial-up is a very specialized use case. As a Network Engineer, I have installed COM servers with built-in modems to allow console access to network device console ports, especially to remote sites. If I needed to do late night updates, changes or troubleshooting, sometimes VPN access wasn't available, or I would need to see the device console during boot. A dial-up connection was crucial when network connection wasn't available.

Interesting note about adding a new user. If you add a password at the time you are adding the user Microsoft will force you to create a bunch of security questions / answers. If you want to avoid this don't add a password at the time of adding the user. Instead add the user without password, Then log into that user's account and add the password then in settings in the same area. No prompt for security questions that you likely won't remember the answers to anyways if and when it comes up.

Have a video recommendation. I tried searching through you vids but couldn't find it ... at least not in one place anyway. How about a video that shows you exactly what you need to do to setup up a newly bought pc/laptop? Starting right with the local login rather than microsoft login (one of your vids). When should you install your virus program ... before or after backing up and creating a reocovery? What installed programs should (could) be deleted? What should be addded (your vid ... The LAST flash drive you will ever need). Think this might make for an interesting vid and would definitely help lots of people. I'm hunting for a new laptop so thought of this idea when today's new video popped up on my feed. :)

Made one a while back for Windows 11 (How to setup Windows 11 - SUPER EASY! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2fbYqJoeJdlprM) Software installs are tricky. What works for me isn't necessarily best for you. And the local login bypass doesn't always work on every revision of Windows 11. If I had included that, I'd be getting hundreds of comments saying "doesn't work". Instead, I did make a video "9 settings you should change" that specifically deals with switching to a local account and how to do it. Hope this helps! 👍

Fair. Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on talking slower - there's a fine line between talking at "ultra-novice" level and "normal user" level, usually will add 10-20 minutes and that's a lot to ask of most viewers. I also get "don't talk so slow", so I really can't win lol

I still have a week to decide but the 'Ohio sales tax holiday July 30-Aug 8' Is one of the primary factors along with price less than $500 other than features and functionality of the laptop itself. I purchased my current used laptop about 18 months ago and it's starting to do crazy things; I can't type a sentence without requirement to check my typing. It started with the B key and now several other letters are beginning to not respond unless I go back and type it again.

I only say that because at 4am this morning I reinstalled Win 10 on a HP Pavilion.... and it was.... soooooooo easy. Compared to the Win 11 I did last week..... which sucked, and took 4 days. If you take this request - don't keep them up - delete as you go. Just a "current" "how to install windows" guide. My personal experience is crappy - I know enough to get in trouble, then have to look to the net for help. But thats how we learn, eh? 20 years ago I was an IT manager... not any more!!!! A simple step by step - preferably that bypasses MS Login.... yeah... and keep it updated. You're a trusted source. Could be a regular thing for you.

Cleaner and Registry cleaner apps ... which it tells me are not recommended by MS etc. However when i searched to go to this, it's not visible because i cant see the "Apps and Features" button.. mine only says " INSTALLED APPS " 🤔. Help ! Please !!

Thank you for all this information. I have Windows 10 on my desktop but I have just bought a laptop with Windows 11 but I cannot put any icons on the screen. In Windows 10 I just click on teh programme and then right click to get the screen that says make a shortcut on the desktop screen. It doesn't work for me like that in Windows 11 so please, how do I put icons on the screen?
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
You should be able to right click the desktop, go to new, shortcut, then browse to the file or location you need. Are you getting some kind of error in the process?

thnx 4 uploading this info, just purchased new pc w/windows 11. having issue though, bottom right where my audio icon is, it says no audio device is installed. have watched vids here on audio but still can not remedy this with no audio. please advise? would be vm appreciated. ty:)
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
With a factory install, audio should be automatically installed. Check under device manager, remove any items under sound or audio controllers, then reboot. Windows should update the drivers

Can you create a restore point and disable system restore? How does that work anyway? Does it periodically write onto your drive? If so wouldn't that just harm your SSD over time?
@AskYourComputerGuy9 ай бұрын
You can't create a restore point if it's not enabled. Windows automatically writes restore points (when enabled) before any significant changes or app installs. And no it doesn't harm your SSD any more than creating a document would

😎 very well structured tipps. Is there any way to control the win+v menu via keyboard instead of mouse?
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
To activate the clipboard history shortcut, you can do the following: Select Start Select Settings Select System Select Clipboard Turn on the toggle under Clipboard history

@@AskYourComputerGuy ☹️ ms has crippled the usability with clipboard history, and that is a big shame. But what to expect…
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
@Kammreiter wasn't aware of that. There are other apps out there that allow you to manage multiple clipboard copies though 👍

My wife, a teacher, bought a new laptop with Windows 11, and that's how I ended up here. I've been on Linux since about 2000, MX Linux for the past few years. Download it and you'll never look back. My machine dual boots into Windows 10, but I never use it.
@AskYourComputerGuy3 ай бұрын
I'm working on several videos now, one is how to create a dual boot to test Linux, and the other is "can a normal Windows user learn to use Linux". Stay tuned ;)
@grasonicus3 ай бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy Over the years, I've used several Linux distributions. The one I'd recommend is MX Linux. It's easier to use than Windows and, besides the manual, has an MX Tour which gives one two or three minute bites of information with images about the various aspects of the distro. Also, being Debian-based, the repository has over 50,000 free packages. Windows wants to think for one and gets in the way. Linux puts one in the driving seat--you think and tell it what to do. The only reason everybody is not using Linux is because very few people are really interested in computers. Hard to understand, isn't it? I build them, have a degree in IT and create web applications.
@AskYourComputerGuy3 ай бұрын
@grasonicus I've heard of that distro. I was leaning towards Mint for "Windows-like" simplicity. Your thoughts on one vs the other?
@grasonicus3 ай бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy There are many comparisons between the two, even on KZbin. Here's one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZbaqXWvn62oa6s MX comes in an AHS (advanced hardware support) form for new hardware. It also has the standard form. Why not give them both a go and live with them for a while?

Can Windows 11 play games / other software which were made for earlier versions of windows? Where are the settings to enable this (if possible).
@JJFlores197Ай бұрын
Yes Windows 11 will run most programs for older Windows versions. Do note that not every software is backwards compatible, but a lot is. The only way to know is to try it out. There are no settings to enable.

Hello! Thank you for the video. I'm wondering if you could possibly help with renaming some folders. Ex: every month I have to create folders that have subfolders under them. 2024_07_01, 2024_07_02, 2024_07_03, and so on... I would like to be able to do a search and replace on the month, i.e. 2024_07_01, 2024_07_02, and change it to 2024_08_01, 2024_08_02 and so on. It is such a pain to do it manually. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like to have my desktop in a list format that is on the taskbar that you can click on and scroll through your desktop items, which is what windows 10 lets you do so you can have a clean desktop with no items. It seems there is no option for this on windows 11?

It used to be in mouse settings under "control panel". Honestly not sure if that's still an option but that's where it would be if it still exists
