Jirard knows something we don’t. He’s releasing this video on his 9th year anniversary of the channel (that’s fucking awesome). He’s talking about the the first game series he ever covered on the channel. Realistically, Mega Man X9 should be the next main game title to release in the X series. Capcom also asked him to be a part of the iam8bit re release of the original X game. Man, tbh, I just want X9 to release already. 🥺

Javier Escudero wait people give x4 shit? Why? It’s arguably the best x game it has easily the best level design (besides maybe x2), least back tracking, best graphics, arguably best ost (although all of the x games have banger soundtracks so it’s hard to choose), and a solid story (kinda ruined by the awful voice acting and bad editing though) and it’s full playability of zero would go on to effect the rest of the mega man franchise. What do people possibly hate about it?

@georgieboysaxe3022
@georgieboysaxe3022 4 жыл бұрын
It was a different time back then friend-three dimensional games were so revolutionary that they set a standard that 2D games couldn’t meet, at least back then. The irony is that 2D side-scrollers have aged far more gracefully than 3D contemporaries from that same era-in hindsight, that shit’s bananas to think about.
@ChaoticHoly
@ChaoticHoly 4 жыл бұрын
@@georgieboysaxe3022 The only difference about the time back then was Sony America's marketing push to vilify 2D/sprite-based graphics (as the PS struggled with 2D early-on). You could always tell which reviewers were both utter crap & completely worthless at their job by checking to see if they'd fallen for Sony's anti-2D lies.
@rastadude

It's fine bro. An opinion is an opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs. Although, we can clearly see now that whoever that journalist was, trully underestimated the game as it was. But I get where you're coming from, and it is painful to see something you love not given justice or even the benefit of the doubt. Personally I neber enjoyed playing Megaman as a kid. I found it too difficult for my casual gaming ass. I only trully enjoyed and understood it when I grew older. My love for it started with Megaman X4, and I've loved the franchise ever since. P.S. I can still only play it on a casual level. Because I'm still a suck at playing it. Using speedrunning strategies has helped improve my play though.

@@rastadude The problem is, is that many people's opinions define the phrase, "Opinions are like assholes...". And then some people's opinions (not saying it's true in this specific case, mind) are just straight-up factually _wrong._ Take my sister for example: she's of the opinion that she can be a perfectly capable mother *and* drink a 5th of vodka with her breakfast every day at the same time, and that being passed-out drunk on the couch at any given time of the day is perfectly responsible behavior for a mother of children under the age of 10.

The only big issue about this is, the armor system from X6 and Extreme was introduced in X5. You started the game with 'Fourth Armor' from X4 and once you found all the armor pieces of either Falcon or Gaea. Then you could select those armor from the stage select screen and couldn't select them unless you game over. Aside from that. Great video. Very similar to your FFVII documentary from years ago.

That part about X5's finality made me realize something about it. Multiplying or dividing by X = unlimited possibilities. From different armor collections to enemy weapon types, X literally has the power to go to infinity and beyond. Multiplying or dividing by Zero = Zero. Aside from new tips and tricks now and then, nothing ever really changes about him, almost as if there's nothing else to improve. X vs Zero is more than just two best friends at odds with each other. It's the epitome of an unstoppable force vs an immovable object.

You guys are amazing... I remember when I was younger and had to beg for my father for quarter coins to play 10 minutes of Mega Man X on local videogame arcades. Literally memorizing the whole series, and getting to play new games as time went by. My first game on the PSX was Mega Man X5, and I vividly remember playing that game for straight up 10 hours without a memory card, just to go on and play it all over again on the next day. Now, it's been almost 20 years since I've first met the franchise, and it's honestly one of my greatest inspiration towards life, game preferences, music, professional goals, it inspires me so much. I really appreciate all the work you guys have put into this. It's really heartwarming to see that people really love this franchise as much as I do, maybe even more than I do. Watching this video two years later as I am tackling my own Mega Man X journey for my channel, I love how much love this series has compared to the others. This one stood out by a while, and I really wished they took more care of it back then so we would've seen a revival of it in modern day besides a legacy collection.

This style of video is really great. It shows The Completionist's enthusiasm of a game series without the, sometimes very daunting, task of having to complete and fully go through an entire game series. The script was very well thought out and shows how much love the team has for this series. Thank you for the awesome and very relaxing trip through memory lane for our favorite blue bomber.

X1: I had fun playing it - the final boss was tough tho. X2: My favorite! It's harder than X1 in my opinion but I still enjoyed the game's atmosphere and music. X3: Uh, kinda ok. Music has some greats but it's too aggressive and it's also a bit more frustrating to play. X4: Pretty ok! Played X's campaign and Zero's campaign and it was well balanced. Like X1, I took me a while to beat the final boss. X5: My second favorite. I know it has it's flaws but still. The music was amazing! X6: Was optimistic first but it turned into pure frustration, especially the last levels, which are almost Kaizo levels of BS. X7: Well, it was kinda ok. Some levels were neat to look at but the bosses were annoying. But it's the first game with mah boi Axl! X8: This game has some annoyingly designed levels but it still was pretty good, especially since this game has lots of content! Beat all the games in X Legacy Collection 1+2 and I may now be heading to the Zero/ZX Legacy Collection. Never tried the Xtreme, but I played Command Mission and I loved that game!

With Mega Man X Collection on the PlayStation 2 being my first official exposure to gaming as a whole, this video means an incredible amount to me. With every X game I'd played, I'd truly known what it meant to fight for what you believe in. Even now, I recognize the massive impact X and Zero had on me as a young child, even to now, a near-21 year old struggling to find his place in the world. All I know is I want to improve the world in some way. Much like Dr. Light, I simply wish for us all to unite peacefully, and still be the best we can be. Video games can and do have a valuable effect on those who experience them. Mega Man X taught me not to give up, no matter how daunting or scary the task may be. Final Fantasy IV taught me that redemption, while hard work, is never too large of a price to pay if you truly care, and it is worth it. New Super Luigi U helped me understand how important being a younger brother could be when usually the elder brother is the main focus. The Legend of Zelda helped me look at the details over the wider picture in a lot of situations where the details can be crucial. Kirby's Adventure got me realizing that no matter how simple and childish things may look, there's often a lot more going on deeper within. EarthBound was helpful for me to learn how to channel my weird side, not just to be odd, but also how to use it for more interesting things and in ways that work well in the social settings I'm in. And while a game doesn't have to be revolutionary or teach someone a valuable lesson, the real point is to have a good time, and even in the greater aspects that's present. While Pac-Man didn't really give me any new information, it's just a fun experience. While Mega Man X also relayed a foundation of life lessons and goals to me, I still just played it to have a good time. In a world that can be stressful and scary and induce anxiety, rage, and sadness, video games have definitely helped many millions of people to overcome all of this. It's influenced culture in ways thought unimaginable. It's become more than some nerdy pastime and it's a way of being. A lot of my time with my girlfriend is spent just chilling in front of the PS3, enjoying each other's company, and honestly I'm glad there's something to do instead of simply awkward conversation. I'm proud to be a gamer, and I genuinely kinda hope I never stop being one. I've wondered about a new Mega Man X game for a few years myself, and with the return of our blue boys, there's a lot of hope. How would they go about it? Will things be as fun as they were all that time ago? How much will have improved? Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure...

This well-produced retrospective is fantastic. The level of comprehensive detail in the writing, the segues, the music selections, the guest voice clips (which I am SUPER jealous of and wish I could’ve been a part of somehow!), the custom 3d animations...all of it, top to bottom, a triumph. Furthermore, albeit what many might view as a moot point, as someone who has gone through many teacher lives working on figuring out next steps, I can share this video more freely with past (and future?) students without having to be concerned about language. I of course had hoped Jirard and the TOVG crew were holding onto a surprise announcement at the very end of this video that maybe - just maybe - a tease of X9 might coincide with TOVG’s 9th birthday...but alas. Even so, this is certainly a fitting way to celebrate TOVG’s 9th birthday as Mega Man X is where the whole legend of the Completionist began. Meanwhile, this retrospective served as a staggering reminder of just how long it’s been since we’ve had a proper Mega Man X game. As someone who grew up with an SNES but not a PlayStation later on, the journey ended for me after completing X3. It was a heartbreaking loss to see X leave Nintendo consoles for Sony consoles back in the day, although from what I have seen since, it seems like the only games I really missed out on are X4 and maybe X5. I’m still holding out hope that CAPCOM will surprise us all someday soon with a brand new X game that will bring back much of what made the series’ humble beginnings so great, but we’ll see. In the meantime, I look forward to JKB Games finishing his fan-made production of Mega Man X: Corrupted, which looks to be the Mega Man X Metroidvania that dreams are made of. (I know CAPCOM did give making Mega Man into a Metroidvania a try with the ZX series, but it didn’t quite cut the mustard.) I’d wager it’s more likely we’ll see a Mega Man 12 first before we see an X9 or a whole new kind of X game, but we’ll see!

This video was an amazing love letter to the Mega Man X franchise. I was especially thankful to the fact that the spinoff Xtreme and Command Mission games were mentioned, as some fans I have talked to do not remember those games. While I am aware that the Mega Man Zero games are “sequels” in a timeline sense, I still prefer the X series. The only thing missing that truly would make this a “complete legacy” video is the fact that Mega Man X Dive, a mobile game that I admit, I would definitely sink some time into, has yet to officially make its way to the US. I still wish for Capcom to start development on a new X game that fans would come to love, and would love to see Jirard’s take on said game should it come into existence. That being said, this style of video was definitely worth the watch and I look forward to more series/legacy reviews in the future!

I rally did enjoy this type of video Jirard and would very much love to see more condensed retrospective-esque videos like this in the future. The Megaman franchise as a whole (in its entirety, not just the X series) has been a ubiquitous part of the time spent in my life as a gamer since I was 7. I could possibly even fill an entire book about how important it is to me and why. Roughly 6 years ago it was playing X5 again for the first time since I was a kid that reignited my love for not only the franchise but playing games again in general. It had such a profoundly immense effect on me as a long time avid fan of the franchise that it bordered on obsessive for about 3 years. But even after real life circumstances had a substantial effect on my desire to play video games and how much I enjoyed them, my reacquired appreciation for Megaman has never wavered. Hell I was so enamored with it, I actually began writing a fan story about Megaman X that kind of served as my own (relatively obscure) interpretation of what X9 could be like. I never finished it unfortunately though. I intended for it to be pretty long and packed to the brim with all kinds of lore and new interesting characters. But the story became so cluttered and disorganized that should I ever return to it, I'll either have to start over from scratch or it'll have to undergo some major revisions. But that should be a testament to how much I would kill for an X9 someday. Here's hoping I guess. And thank you for this loving tribute.

I wish I hadn't delayed watching this video. I grew up with Mega Man. When I got my NES I would rent Mega Man 1-4 from our local rental store. When it ran out of business my dad bought me the copy of Mega Man 3. Years later when we got our SNES I would wind up getting Mega Man X and X2. I got X4 for the PC and would eventually get a Playstation just for the X games (and Legends). While I wound up getting a Gamecube I did manage to scrape a used PS2 to play the PS2 X games- and would move on to the Zero and ZX series on my Gameboy advance and DS. While I adore Mario and Zelda games, but I have a very special connection with Mega Man- especially the X series. I just grew up with them. The lack of any games the past decade has left a void in my heart. One day I hope Capcom does come back to the series- and does it justice.

I always believed that the MegaManX series was missing a way to tell a deep story without sacrificing the constant motion in gameplay and action. Like maybe placing secret collectible items in the levels or missions that unlock bios for characters and bosses or even cutscenes that show and explain what is happening with MegamanX and co between the levels giving context to the game and motivation for us the players and X to complete it. That way it doesn't boggle down the action with constant plot dumps during times that should be devoted to getting players straight into the action, but still be able to explain what is happening so the players don't get lost or wonder why X is doing what he is currently doing and why we should care.

Mega Man X is one of the most awesome hero concepts that exists. Dr. Light told X that he had limitless potential and it’s true. There are literally endless possibilities when it comes to what the future could hold for Mega Man X. That’s the exact reason why I can’t understand how Capcom botched it so hard and then just threw it to the side. I think they should rewrite the entire storyline so that it’s more straight forward and makes complete sense. Then they should remake the series from start to finish. If they gave it the feel of playing the old games with newer graphics and some new added features here and there, it’d be amazing and it’d bring the series back to life.
