3:56:17 The reason "Here's to you" is Ground Zeroes' theme is that there was no practical reason to capture Paz nor Chico in the first place. All the information they could've given Skull Face was equally accessible through Miller as well. The reason why Skull Face did all of that horrible stuff to Paz and Chico was just to set an example; to send a message to all of Big Boss' allies. It is not a coincidence that Chico managed to record those tapes.

2:44:34 speaking of big boss body being actually solidus I think you can get it pretty easily actually, there's a scene that clearly shows the body with his right eye open and the other one missing. They match solidus as bb lost his right eye, so you can actually pick the twist if you pay attention to some details. I remember playing the game and noticing that but just thought it was a mistake and didn't connect it to solidus in the first place

The one line that stuck with me through the whole series, playing MGSV as my first Metal Gear, and seeing the quote at the end: “Another day in a proxy war without end”. Because that’s the summary of the entire series, proxy wars against groups that want to control the world or push their ideology by using other forces or people to further their goals, all originating from a single soldier that wanted to see a unified peaceful world. I often use the quote IRL, usually when watching the news or studying history at university, because that ending stuck with me hardcore

Im not sure if anyone pointed it out, but during the peace walker section you expressed uncertainty with the butterfly symbolism. Butterflies are often associated with death in Japanese culture. Gives the final mech a more “death incarnate” big bad energy. Gives more context to Quiet’s character as well. Amazing work!
@Beeyo176
@Beeyo176 Жыл бұрын
There's also Snake trying to capture butterfly in MGS3, only to finally mold one out of C4 near the end, toss it in the air, and finally "catch" it. The symbolism ranges from death, rebirth, a theme of internal destruction from All Quiet on the Western Front, and even depth perception, according to who you ask. Given Kojimas penchant for movies, I'd guess the Western Front one

14:44 about that, in one of the tapes in MGSV Huey also calls her "he" but he also says no one knows if dr Clark is a man or woman because very few people have actually met her and there is almost no info about her. this was definitely done in order to address the plot hole in mgs 1 after people started pointing it out rather than it being planned but it still means that Naomi referring to Clark as he is canon.

One thing: In the MGS4 section, you said there was no foreshadowing for the twist about Big Boss's body actually being Solidus, and I'm breaking my rule about never leaving comments to let you know that the answer was right in front of us the whole time. If you look closely, you'll see that the body is missing the wrong eye. Big Boss lost his right eye, while Solidus lost his left in the Harrier fight during MGS2.

Also the solidus body switch out with big boss is hinted at prior to the reveal. With the opposing eyes being lost by Solidus and Big boss. The game also explains it really was Liquid possessing Ocelot way back in mgs2, but mgs4 tells us that Ocelot removed the arm post mgs2 in order to prevent Liquid from taking control again and at that point he really was gone for good and so Ocelot went the hypnotise himself route. You can choose to not kill the b&b core. If you tranq them instead allowing them to confront their own trauma.

Man, you managed to get almost everything about Dante's Inferno wrong.... Virgil is NOT Dante's brother (that's Devil May Cry), He's a Roman poet whose work and philosphy Dante loved. Beatrice IS NOT Dante's wife. She was a woman he loved in his youth but never really got close to, and then transformed into the personification of "love and virtue".... You got Charon sorta right tho. Friendly advice: the Divine Comedy and the Devil May Cry canon are 2 very different things....

Every time I hear the Old Snake track, I get goosebumps. 6/10 or not, the story had some seriously gut-wrenching moments. Naomi her speech after uploading Sunnys virus? Damn near brought me to tears. The fight between Solid and Liquid Ocelot? Genius in every detail. Going back to Shadow Moses? Fanservice at its best, but my god was it nostalgic! MGS1 was the first game in the series I played as a kid, and being back there, fighting Howling Wolf where you originally fought and killed Sniper Wolf was beautiful. Even the audio flashback in the corridor where Jaeger absolutely destroys the genome soldiers in MGS1 catapulted me back into my 12 year old self sitting in front of my tiny TV, absolutely enthralled at the beauty that was MGS1. MGS4 is definitely more an interactive stealth/action movie than a game, but it's a great movie. And seeing as how Kojima has always had a love for movie directing and originally didn't want to make MGS4, it stands to reason he just wanted to do what he was passionate about, directing a movie. My opinion is enormously biased though, because I absolutely loved MGS1, and it jump-started my love for the entire Metal Gear story universe.

My favourite part of the absurdity of Ocelot and Liquid is how in reality Ocelot was somehow outsmarting everyone and wasn't actually Liquid, just pretending he was so he could achieve Big Boss' idea of the Boss' Will. Also, Armstrong's plan was actually to use war to destroy war as a business so he could replace the status qou and make a land where people are actually given what they worked for through their strength of will, so although you got it partially right, it wasn't completely. His two music tracks are also the only ones that are from Raiden's perspective, the first with Excelsius being his perceived idea of Armstrong's plan, the second with the actual boss fight being what Raiden realises his plan actually was, in which Raiden takes his ideology and carries it on his own way at the end of the game. Honestly though, the best moment in the series is definitely the execution of your infected crew.

So you mentioned not finding a connection to the "Here's To You" song in GZ but its kind of obvious. Big Boss is an anarchist. Sadly him not being a fan of some of my favorite bosses in the saga is a let down. As I loved the ends and the sorrows fight in mgs3 a ton. Plus they have an amazing character background that he never touched on at all. Like the end is the og sniper, and a huge reason why parasites are a main theme in mgsv as the end had them to allow him to photosynthesis. And the sorrow was the bosses lover who ended up on opposite sides of the cold war forcing the boss to shoot him and hes the father to ocelot one of the main characters of the series. There's an explanation to the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo/Patriot thing that someone would only recognize if they know about the concept of shibboleths, and the Japanese language. A shibboleth is a word or phrase (sometimes a question) that's used by soldiers, spies, and officials of a country to determine whether or not a person (or a group of people) they're speaking to are legitimately who they claim to be. The term originates in Judaism and refers to the word itself being used to conclusively determine the origins of a specific person (and they're pronunciation revealing an accent). In regards to the Japanese language, there isn't a rhotic (r) sound, so non-Japanese words with the letter (L) would often sound and be reproduced as something similar to an (R) sound, as if you're about to roll your R's. So, La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo, when rendered in English by English speakers, wouldn't be able to be easily reproduced by a native speaker of Japanese. Their inability to do so would show that they're not aligned with the Patriots, and are thus enemies. There's even a historical precedent that Kojima perhaps drew from. In WWII, American soldiers in the Pacific theater would use the term "Lollapalooza" as a Shibboleth to suss out Japanese soldiers who were pretending to be American or Filipino, who when asked to repeat the term, would say something to the effect of "Rorraparooza". They would then be shot on sight.

This is my favorite series it's an artistic masterpiece and great story telling done over a huge time span, this series made my childhood. Still love it in my adult life. 4 is actually my favorite of the series, I know it’s not the best but it’s a personal favorite and has a lot of external personal meaning to me as it’s the first shooter I ever played and I played the whole game when I was 12 with my dad who’d played every metal gear game up to this one

This guy just sat there and called the entire cobra unit "filler"? 😂😂 Great Video btw I disagree with many of your view points and agree on many others, you probably don't love this game as much as many of us do, childhood and teenage influence is powerful, but you did the 6 hours video and I watched it entirely, I respect your work and appreciate a well structure critic even if I dont agree with some points, Genichiro/Sword Saint Ishinn arena is probably a reference to that Boss Final Battle and for me MGS3 is the best one although I'll admit it was my first MG and I was a teen so I am clearly bias but oh men that game is near perfect in my eyes, it hurt to hear your disregard to the boss fights. Thanks for the effort you did an excellent job summarizing every single game thats a monumental task.

Miller did know the plan from the beginning, the talk at the end with Ocelot was before Venom awakened. That's why he helped V (to bring down the real Big Boss, that's why he's so furious and revenge filled). BB didn't trust him anymore after working with Cipher in secret in Peace Walker.
