This really is a complete in-depth guide on how to play Minecraft in 2024.
First things, we are going to be focusing on this being a Minecraft survival guide as Minecraft creative mode is mostly just building. If you master Minecraft survival, you will be able to play creative mode without issue.
I also want to mention that this will work with both Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition meaning that no matter what version of Minecraft you are using, this video will be the perfect tutorial for beginners.
With that out of the way, I’d recommend creating your first Minecraft survival single-player world. Once you are in-game, you will want to gather wood. There are tons of different types of wood that you can use, and any tree will work. To chop down wood at first, you will just punch it with an empty hand.
Once you have wooden logs, open your inventory and in the crafting menu in the top right, place the logs to break them down into planks. Use four planks in this menu to craft a crafting table. This will be used to craft bigger items such as tools.
Place the crafting table down and start building wooden tools. This is done with sticks and planks, and these tools will allow us to be more efficient. From here, you need to find some animals and get some food. This will be the food we use until we get to farming.
From there, chop down trees for the remainder of the first day until you dig down underground to survive your first night in Minecraft. In this first night, upgrade your tools to stone by mining underground in a staircase motion. It’s recommended to craft a furnace as well and get some coal.
After the first night, day two has you focusing on farming. Get some seeds from grass, till the ground near water, and plant the seeds. It’s important to get a farming source going as soon as possible.
From here, it’s time to get a bed. This can be gotten from sheep. You’ll need three pieces of wool to craft a bed. A bed will let us sleep through the first night. Once you have a bed, you can build a house, upgrade your tools to iron, get diamonds, make a run for netherite armor, the options are up to you.

Take this with a grain of salt since I’ve been playing games since I was a kid but I think Minecraft is a great game to get started on. The controls aren’t too complex, you can go as deep or as shallow into the various mechanics as you like and be as creative as you want. Im 39 and got Minecraft for the switch for my kids this christmas. My advice, start a survival game on Peaceful so you get the experience of mining and building without worrying about dying. Creative is too overwhelming since I don't know what all the items do yet.

Well, that’s great when he gets older if he likes the game as much as you do, y’all can play multiplayer. That’s where the best memories happen. And the shenanigans start. I mean you can play multiplayer with him now, but he’s younger, so there might be some things that might take him a while to learn. Or maybe not, everyone’s different.

Isn't video games too complicated for 4 year olds? My 4 year old nephew knows letters and can count to 30 and he's considered smart for his age. But basic board games are too much for him and I'd have no faith in him playing Minecraft.

You actually only need 10 obsidian for the portal. It only needs to be 2 blocks wide and 3 tall. Also, the first thing to do once in the nether is to link the nether-side portal to the one in the overworld. If you don't, the same netherside portal might generate a different overworld-side portal when you go back through. Just break the netherside portal and rebuild it at the coordinates you get by dividing the overworld coordinates X and Z by 8.

I’m up there in age and I love Minecraft! I used to tell my son how boring I thought it was when he started playing Minecraft! Lol boy was I wrong. I play this now with my young adult kids! I started playing video games when I was about 4 or 5 Atari, Coleco vision, Nintendo all of it! Helped my son build both his gaming Pc’s we’re hardcore gamers in my house, I raised gamers lol I am proud of my hardworking young adult kids who have jobs in day and game at night lol! I have play Minecraft for a long time but mostly are just creative and incomplete survival but that are the first edition released on iOS and Minecraft bedrock. 11:40 Such a waste. No need to toss away your wooden tools into the ocean. Instead you can use it as fuel once you have a furnace and possibly save a precious piece of coal or two, by burning the tools instead.
