Peter has always been my favorite apostle. Started out as a rough, gruff fisherman. With the Holy Spirit guiding him, he became an eloquent and persuasive speaker It took a lot of bravery to live and die as he did. I'm grateful he stood up to to Simon Magus. There are still a lot of selfish, power hungry "leaders" in the world, trying to lead us believers astray. We must pray for discernment.

Read further in the New Testament and you will see that Jesus made Paul the apostle for the gentiles. Through Paul, Jesus revealed the mysteries of salvation. The mystery of once saved always saved. The Holy Spirit lives inside us after we are saved, guaranting us a place in heaven. The mystery of the five crowns after you are saved.

@@violetsplace524 Unfortunately, there is always the belief that there’s another way than what the Bible teaches. Gnosticism goes against the whole mission of the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:18-20) God chose ordinary men and women: fishermen, shepherds, noblewomen, businesswomen to spread the Gospel. They did not share a complicated message, either. They shared and were martyred for sharing the simple message that Christ saved & is saving us. That message (which has been the consistent message throughout the Bible) is so powerful that it doesn’t need to be “hidden” because most of the world will not believe it (Matthew 7:21-23)

I love reading the epistles of Peter. A simple fisherman from Galilee whom Jesus picked to found his Church. Cephas the rock lived his missionary life knowing what awaited him, yet he never once shirked his sacred duty to take the Good News abroad. The "ROCK" mentioned in Mt.16:18 is the unwavering FAITH Peter expressed in Jesus being the CHRIST-the Son of God. Jesus thereby indicated that his Church would consist of those who demonstrated unwavering faith in Jesus' status as Son of God having the power to liberate men from bondage to delusion. And upon such unwavering faith in him, Jesus would build the kingdom of God (his church) on earth. These words of Jesus never referred to any specific religious institution (theocracy) claiming to be the Christian Church. The "KEYS" is a reference to the esoteric spiritual techniques by which Jesus taught his disciples how to 'go within' and unlock the higher centres of consciousness to enter the highest heaven-Cosmic Consciousness. By this declaration Jesus made it known that Peter would be his formal (authorized) SUCCESSOR who had his consent to transfer his original 'christian' teachings and esoteric techniques-in their pure form-to all who sought to become disciples of Christ once he ascends to heaven. Wrong! It was Peters confession of faith that Jesus would build his church on. Not on Peter himself. He saith unto them, "But whom say ye that I am?" And Simon Peter answered and said, *Thou art the Christ* the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, "Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." {Matthew 16:15-17} “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.” {Matthew 10:32} That *if thou shalt confess with thy mouth* the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Apart from the church there's no one that depicts Gnostics as heretics; nor do they directly link Simon Magus to the origins of all Gnostics. There's no universal consensus.
