I got excited when they showed off the PS2 in this episode despite owning and regularly playing one over the last 22 years. It took me back. Something about seeing people witnessing something I've already experienced for the first time is satisfying, like young Streamers discovering old Nintendo, Sega, Sony games, etc. It somewhat validates that some of the games I used to enjoy were actually good.

Its funny how today everything on the Sony table is now all in one device, a smart phone. PDA, e-Mail, MP3 Player, phone headset (Bluetooth or speaker phone), digital camera, Digital Video Camcorder, mobile phone, GPS, Video player and game console !! its crazy that it took less then 10 years for all of this to become one device.

It is insane to watch this show go from featuring barely functional junk where every bit of memory had to be accounted for to 3D graphics, broadband, multi-gigabyte portable devices, digital cameras, and touch screen PDAs (however primitive they might look today). I hope the Library of Congress has archives of all this stuff.

@Alonso Reyes But AR and VR are not so practical or in demand among the general public, are they? VR makes people sick and requires a lot of space to be used practically indoors, and AR is most useful to companies that need to provide information and resources to employees doing specialized tasks, such as designing hardware. People aren't clamoring for AR or VR the way they used to clamor for the functionality of PDAs and MP3 players.

21:00 Another 6GB MP3 :) - when i was in school people used to make MP3 using AVR 8bit microcontroler, to control IDE, and few kB of SDRAM or DRAM and use MP3 decoder to play data. But 3.5' IDE drives. Almost made one of these. And i read about 1.8' drive in newspaper. I dont know when iPod was presented, if wasnt already available for certain Steve Jobs was watching this program.

@yellowblanka6058
@yellowblanka6058 7 жыл бұрын
Not really, they were very close on polygon throughput (realtime, not theoretical max), and the PS2 had twice the RAM, a faster CPU etc. - it was by far the weakest of its generation (the PS2), but it still edged out the Dreamcast on a graphical level.

It's been said millions of times but I'll say it again : Stewart wasn't interested in the sales pitches of these marketing people looking to enhance their paycheck; he only wanted to know the bottom line of what the product could do, not in how it would revolutionize your life or how it would save you thousands of dollar in enhanced productivity. The show was also taped as a one-off, meaning no retakes and very limited post-production editing.
