I have always liked watching these consumer buying guide episodes of The Computer Chronicles, because I usually found at least one software package that I wanted to get for my Windows PC. The older editions even had software packages for the Atari, Commodore, Radio Shack & other computers as well.

I don't know what it is, but the older technology and gadgets are so beautiful. It could be nostalgia, but there's something so amiable and powerful about that time. Let's go back ;----; please.

While we laugh at most of this, I feel printer technology has actually regressed.

I work in IT. We have one client that goes through a cheap printer about every 12 months. As soon as the drum requires replacement he buys a new one. The printer is $196 and the drum if you buy on its own is $239. That’s crazy as the new printer comes with an entire printer toner and drum

Regarding software rental, how would they ensure that the customer does not install the software, return it back, and keep using the software on their computer indefinitely? I know some games on CD back then required the CD to be in the drive to run, but I don't see software needing to do that. Absolutely no store today will do any kind of computer software and games rental lol!
@technole6 жыл бұрын
Back then in the early CD-ROM era the titles were too large to copy on your hard drive, and CD-Rs were new and expensive. Remember people barely had 500 megabyte hard drives.

When I was I younger there was a store that actually rented out pirated Dvds, so after the installation we didn't need the disks anymore. So we just paid that fixed price for I think a 3-day period and returned the Dvds back within that time. But the model stopped working when the internet got better, we just came to the store to look for ideas and then torrented these games for free :/
