I was privileged to sing this beautiful for our Michigan state high school choral championship in 1958. Listening to this brings back great memories. East Detroit High School, Bernice Manos director.

I just sang this song for my high school's Christmas concert and will be singing it again for festival in April. It's so cool hearing the Concordia Choir sing this and is a full circle moment because my choir director is a Concordia graduate and I will be attending Concordia.

My high school sang this. It's a great arrangement.

Our mixed chorus sang it for State Contest (High School). We were awarded a First, of course. Our wonderful music director attended St. Olaf and had the very famous professor whom he knew and we sang many of his arrangements. I just can't remember his name. I have wanted to hear this sung again for many many years (since high school!)

St. Olaf past directors have been F. Melius (the man who arranged this piece) until about 1945 I think? Then his son, Olaf, directed until 1968 or 69, then Ken Jennings directed until 1989 when Anton Armstrong took over and he still directs the choir now. All 4 of these men have composed and arranged pieces, so hopefully one of these names rings a bell!

@@fortress4281 It must have been Olaf. That does ring a bell from all that our director said (he was the music teacher in my grade school, junior high AND high school from the 1950's through early 1960's) And then he went on to be a principal in a Lutheran school in another town. He mentioned his director from St. Olaf so often over the years, and we learned many arrangements from St. Olaf's. Thank you so much for your reply.

@@Bobbieliz I love hearing stories of old high school choirs performing such advanced works. It really is a feat that would seem impossible for the biggest of high school choirs in another state, but just another day of school for a small town in Minnesota. Happy Holidays Barbara!

@@fortress4281 Our high school had 120 in the mixed choir, and of course there was a girls choir and a boys choir. And 200 pupils in the high school, so you see that there was lots of volunteer enthusiasm. Mr. FIrnhaber chose who would sing in the mixed. I recall that Mr. FIrnhaber always had a lot of enthusiasm so this was catching.
