As awful as Jia could be, in this moment I pitied her. She was initially meant to marry the Prince of Yu, but then had her life and dreams dashed when she was given as a consort to the Emperor. Just seeing the Prince again gave her the strength to carry on. And she was fortunate to still have Linxin on her side after everything. If only she could’ve stayed docile and kind, but Jia really was a product of the environment and times she was thrown into.

Hate love, love hate is how i feel abiut Jia. She is clearly doing horrendous things but that's the product of the environment she is thrown in. If she had married the king of korea she might have been more warm hearted and happily married. But alas she was chosen to be the emperor's bride instead. I feel the anguish of losing her lover to marry someone so fsr away with no one to turn to. Luckily she had her servant but she didnt get to stay long either

Hi, i can only help you with some observations: 1. Zhenshu was trained as a healer and gugu for the position next to Jia and was sent with her to Qing. Failure was not seen as acceptable back then and the prince was surely not in a good mood either as he had been lectured and demoted by the emperor. On coming back she would have been forced to commit suicide or was executed. So sending her back was a death sentence. 2. All the vasall kings of the qing empire had a specific code of "honor" that they should live up to. Forcing his wife to kill herself (maybe he was forced into the marriage and did not like her or whatever the reason may have been) was a strong breach of this and also the tennets of buddhism and confucianism the empire followed. We dont know why he forced her to die but from what we have heard from Jia she was smitten with him quite easily. Maybe he was a womanizer and wanted another women? Or maybe he had his eyes on someone else as first wife. From his behavior we can assume that he was just as calculating as the emperor and used the people around him as pawns - may it be for pleasure or power.
