Not alone. Fascinating deep dives. Thank you for creating these.

Well after the Bernard Hermann shirt in the first of this series, it makes more sense that this piece was influenced by Reich! And the A-natural resolution is such a satisfying conclusion of the piece.

So, totally planning a clapping get together at my house. I was waiting to get to this song because the dissonance of the A flat is the most delicious thing ever and this is also my new favorite song for warming up my mix :) Thank you for these invaluable videos, I never knew what phasing was and why I needed it! ❤️

I’m writing a Steve Reich inspired piece! It’s crazy how so many of my favourite composers admire and are inspired by each other.

The laughs of nerdy joy that I laughed when I first heard the phasing measure 😂 followed by such a satisfying groove. I am devouring these videos, thank you so much for doing them!

I noticed that in Ethan's big high vocal moment in "See Yourself," he also moves from Ab to A (on the word "reflected.") Robin is copying this musical gesture after having just seen Ethan use it -- which makes it feel like she really is picking up on everything he's doing. Not sure if this was intentional or happy coincidence, but it really jumped out to me when I saw the show.

You know, I don’t think of them as being the same gesture because I originally wrote “I’m Watching You” in A, so it was a C going to a C-sharp in that case, and “See Yourself” was a sort of in-the-moment inspiration. But you may be right that this one inspired that one! Brains do crazy things!

I love these explorations of your music, which give me great insight into your compositional process. I'm also learning a lot about the music theory behind your songs, which is both educational and very enjoyable. My only complaint is that these videos are too short! You talked in a previous video about the puzzle of Ethan that Robin (and the audience) is trying to solve through the music, and I'm eagerly waiting to understand more about that in future videos. I'm also eagerly waiting to see if what looks at first to be remarkable, bizarre appearances by your dog reveal themselves to be part of a pattern.

A couple of years ago, Sō Percussion gave a series of concerts at Lincoln Center and performed "Clapping Music" as an encore after each one. The night that they did Reich's "Drumming," he joined them for it. That was pretty cool.

Yes, I saw concert of Music for 18 Musicians at Alice Tully Hall a couple of years ago and he came up onstage at the end for some Clapping Music. Such a joyful experience.

Having recently written my first musical, I find that considering the narrative context often facilitates creative choices musically. That dissonant Ab is a perfect example, and scratches an itch in my brain every time I hear it! (I listen to this album on loop.)

I love these videos. I hope one day you do a video like this on the later half of the musical. I have never seen it, only listened to the album recording in full, and i found myself very thrown off by the ending. I know how intentional your work is, you've written some of my favorite pieces ever. But i just couldn't shake my discomfort with proof and the final song.

In the beginning of "There Never Was" are Robin and Ethan phasing? Or do I have to wait for that video?

Well, not literally, but that’s certainly a cool way of thinking about that moment!
