what you're talking about isn't a hypothetical future or a new phonomenon, it's been the status quo for the last 10 years

also, I'd imagine that image with the blurred logo you showed later in the video is a tease for the rumored ICONS (or art, one of the 18+ ranges anyway.) milky way galaxy set. (and when I say "rumored" I mean "reported on by reputable leakers")

Honestly, I doubt lego has thought about making an original space theme in the last 10 years. I doubt city would change that. To be honest, I think the lego city space sets are very original themselves, and are pretty damn good. Though lego is remaking some of their old sets if that is exciting enough.

Lego is listening. Look at all the Castle themed sets. If enough fans of any lego theme yell loud enough they will make it. Eventually.🐐

As a long, long time Lego fan and collector I see the current trend as a return somewhat to original themes. Classic Castle, Space, Pirates, etc didn’t have named characters. Lego provided the sets and us kids provided our own stories and adventures. We didn’t need a story framework handed to us by TLG marketing. I’m just thrilled that Lego is providing us with new space, castle, etc sets even if they come under the City, Friends, or Creator themes. The new space sets are fantastic IMO! Let’s all get out there and be creative!! 😊

agreed! They need to get back to their roots before they can branch out more.... the way they are doing it seems smart going to earthy castle theme, and a "plausible" space program.

I mean it’s better than nothing. As a 90s Adventurer fan I’m just happy to see Johnny Thunder this summer even if it’s through City.
@icepl8319 ай бұрын
are you aware its NINJAGO that started the trend of shoving what is basically other themes into it? instead of power miners we got cole vehicle. instead of exo force we get a new mech instead of atlantis we get an entire wave of ninjago under water, with submarines and stuff. only reason its going on for so long is because its leeching off of what made the themes before them great, and what could have been new themes to take its place its place at the top. instead any new idea became a wave of ninjago. what city is doing is nothing compared to that.
@octav16009 ай бұрын
while I wish we got super fun small series (consistently) like in the 90s, that is unlikely to happen. Them doing this (as long as it's good product - these sell better than the old ones because these are really REALLY good sets - they have aliens, more SciFi elements, not that sterile NASA look). I think this would be a good way to approach castle as well as other older themes and integrate them. I for one never had issues buying city to complement hidden side or Ninjago for example. Why not have them be under the City umbrella? As for story, there never was much of a story with the classic 90s themes to begin with. Ninjago has a good and long one because it did well. that;s all.

You’re on the money, but the hard truth is that LEGO has already confirmed as much. They’re now deliberately consolidating stuff like Castle and Space into Creator and City so they’re attached to pre-established names, rather than on their own. It’s very unfortunate. I share your concerns all the same. I’ll say, the character variety for City Space rn is completely on par with Galaxy Squad, sans the aliens. They also have the same amount of story (most of it was implied back then too). It’s just City’s has nothing to do with conflict.

Man this is such a great video that I had to leave a reply. LEGO Power Miners is the sole reason why I even make content about LEGO related stuff these days. I feel like LEGO just needs to bring back the theme and one of way of actually nudging them to do so is supporting the creative process behind City Space 2024. I wouldn't go as far as to say its an empty husk or anything, but realistically as consumers we have to be voting with our wallets to say "hey LEGO we want more of this!"
@NicoTown319 ай бұрын
I may have gone a little crazy with the word choice, but like you in your "Hands Down This is The Best Lego Space Set..." I noticed the connections it had to old themes, but instead of you it made me miss the old themes more. I may pick up a few new space sets to give them a chance and instead view it more positively in how these themselves lived on.

I really like the new lego city space. I dont mind if its not its own thing. I do think it would be nice to have some story we can kind of follow, but i dont think its absolutely needed. Loved the video though. Keep up the great work!

Somehow, I don’t really understand your argument. You are saying yourself that original sci-fi themes died 10 years ago. How can Space kill something that is dead already? Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to have Space as a stand-alone thing as well. But when it is successful, it actually might save original themes by showing Lego that there still is interest in these kinds of products. And I actually like the idea of spanning Space over to Technic. I just would have wished that they include minifigs in the Technic sets. And now, the Lego people can even visit this strange alien planet where all minifigs look like mini dolls 😂

I completely understand where you are coming from, but, and I'm not trying to be rude, it's been like this for the past decade. Ever since the return of Lego star wars and Disney constantly pumping out, subpar at best, content for the franchise, an Original Lego space theme was a very low possibly as long as Lego star wars existed, but here we are. I miss the original Lego themes, I miss when we had more than just City and Ninjago, and I love Ninjago, but I want more original themes along side Ninjago, that's why I try and support Dreamzzz as much as I can. I see this Lego Space 2024 going in two possible directions. 1 is the way you said, it getting absorbed into city... And 2. Is a bit more positive, with the 2024 space theme covering multiple themes Lego to be trying to test what works for an original Space theme. Maybe I'm too hopeful, but I want to believe we'll get things like power miners again, things like heroica again, things like Bionicle again, I want to be hopeful, Especially with so many Lego Star wars sets looking bland IMO. Also, that blurred title was just the Lego art logo. It is hard to read so I don't blame you.

I disagree. I think quite the opposite is true. Character might have become slightly less distinct in comparison to some of the older series and story has become more implied but well if this sells, we might see more fantastical Lego city themes creating iconic "themes" for the next generation. If attaching them to Lego city is necessary for that even if it has consequences for the theme it's still better than not existing in the first place and having marvel and star wars dominate everything
@NicoTown319 ай бұрын
Even if the 'true original' themes die, like you I would rather it continue in some way through Lego city than not having any. It would definitely be a transition from how I've known Lego but hopefully could bring some great things in the future.

Hi, I liked your video, I agree that modern lego lacks originality. Star wars, marvel, these series are boring, why buy this when we've already seen it all in the movies, maybe I don't understand it. I wanted to know if you know the plot-the story of modern lego space 2024, who they are, which faction they belong to and what their task in space is, just mining purple energy crystals? Maybe they are a continuation of galaxy squad? In the 80s and 90s, the series: Blacktron, M-Tron, Space Police, Ice Planet, Spyrius, existed in the same universe, there were magazines, posters, with stories about who is a good guy and who is a bad guy, of course lego is always about imagination, but you always want to know the background. There are no magazines right now, not much is clear from the catalog, maybe you have information about who these guys from Lego space 2024 are? With respect to you.

I have a theory that they're the prequel to mars mission, but for concrete information I have nothing.
@AdamBraggАй бұрын
This is a valid perspective. However, LEGO could have been using the Space sets spread throughout all the other themes as a test of overall interest, and if they do well, LEGO may launch a new original Space theme in 2026. Time will tell.
@crossingseason9 ай бұрын
I don't believe the LEGO Group is entirely done with original themes. But it will be a calculated effort similar to Monkie Kid and Dreamzzz. LEGO for about a decade now has discovered it is safer and more profitable to have "broader themes" such as space, castle, pirates, etc be handled by established themes: City, Creator, Ninjago, Friends, Icons, and Ideas. Do fans and myself love this direction? Not really; but I do agree that having space across multiple themes is a better formula.

I think this new direction of space is a natural progression, It has relied on so many high fantasy space but now is this "realistic" and gritty space theme, that can then develop into more futuristic space themes... its like the OG star trek... at first the space ships were basic, even elementary rock like, but then after a few hundred years got the high technology. So where it can go from here is anywhere. I really hope the4y go all in on the more realistic classic themes like they have started with space, and somewhat castle... its a good sign they are getting back to the roots that then made the quirky themes possible. But now they really need to get back to the roots to it can branch out successfully again. (likely to revisit more topics and I am sure space miners could be a total smash, actually some of these new vehicles look like could be part of a space mining edition)

Lego fans and Disney Parks fans seem to share this constantly equating the death of originality with the riseing use of popular IP's. What we have actually received in both cases was more creativity overall. I grew up with Space Police 2 and Ice Planet, Star Wars and Harry Potter were a long ways off and if they hadn't come there wouldn't be a Lego group for us to be discussing. the techniques needed to make these scenes ands ships look like the movies have since been used in every series and to all of our benefit. Give them time.
