Zeugma is a Greek city that was founded in the early 3rd century BC as the city of Seleucia by Seleucus I Nicator, a successor to Alexander the Great. Take well care of these amazing Greek cultural treasures.

Turkey is the very fortunate custodian of a treasure trove and ancient Greek and Byzantine antiquities that bear witness to the indelible stamp of Hellenism across Anatolia--no matter how hard the Turkish Ministry of Culture tries to deny or mislead.

Additionally to that Turkey is gaining money from the greek cultural heritage from the tourists visiting all the museums with greek treasures and the greek ancient sites, which are now in turkish land claiming that all the greek and roman antiquities is their own cultural heritage from their..... Why in this Roman town the name and all the writings are in Greek?
@Anarchj
@Anarchj 10 жыл бұрын
Because that part of the Roman Empire belonged once to the lands conquered by Alexander the Great, who choosed greek as the main language for administration. When Alexander died his Empire was divided in multiple reigns that all became highly influenced by greek culture and where the higher classes spoke in greek (as considered the most prestigious language)

Nice video... A little imprecise though. Zeugma is a Greek town since the times of Alexander the Great. That's why all frescoes and inscriptions are in Greek, and they depict Greek Mythology. Romans passed later from the place.

It was a Greek town and not Roman, a town of Hellenistic period from Seleukos dynasty after the death of Alexander the Great. All the inscriptions on mosaics are written in Greek. We, Greeks, can read them all as they refer to Greek mythology. Can you read them you Turks? Of course not, because when this town was created your Mongols ancestors were somewhere in central Asia.

1. ALL the above are Greek. 2.No matter how hard you try to alter history truth will always prevail. 3.Many of the mosaics were damaged because of the Turkish incompetence (not talking of course about the scientists from the Packard Institute, talking about the ones that poured concrete on the mosaics !?!?!?!?) 4. Imagine how many more are sunken below the river that flooded the town. 5. It is not public Turkish legacy. IT IS GREEK. Email send to the director of CCAroma Roberto Nardi Dear sir Nardi, can you please explain this title.."The Conservation of the Roman town of Zeugma 2000-2004" when, as you know the city Zeugma is Greek and you have named as Roman! This video was published at March of 2012 and today five (5) years later is still there with the same unfortunate MISTAKE "Roman"! From the comments below the video, the administrators MUST have seen their mistake and did nothing to correct it! Can you please, see personally that this matter is corrected? Furthermore, we want to ask who is liable for the damages that occurred to the mosaics by neglect or lack of professionalism and if they were any lawsuits on those matters? We a group of people of Greek descent urge you to correct any mistake that you have done in our heritage that is not only Greek and European but international! We hope that your actions will be swift and decisive!

That date - if it's accurate - is closer to the period that Rome was at that region but it's still before it. Rome started wrestling for control of that area after the 2nd Punic wars and during the Parthian - Roman wars so i'd say it's roughly between 100 BC to 220 AD i think. I'm not an expert obviously, but think 200 BC is still kind of early to start seeing Roman villas in that area. But then again, the chronology can always have errors so..

From 64 BC onwards the city was ruled by the Romans and the inhabitants were living in the Roman Empire. Somehow people want to say things are Roman if it's not what they want to see or something. I don;t get it. Probably 1/3 of Rome were Greeks. Where do people think Romans came from? The same people that were all over that area. I would say Rome had more racial and ethnic diversity than any city in the world.The story goes that the surviving Trojans founded Rome in 375 BC. Many early Romans were Etruscan. And most Romans had Etruscan blood.

These mosaics were found in Roman villas at Zeugma. When they were created, Zeugma was part of the Roman Empire. But the Romans were the first great admirers of Greek art, which is unsurpassed. We would know much less about the ancient Greeks and their superb art if it weren't for the Romans. In these incredible mosaics, artists depicted the Greek gods and scenes from Greek mythology - the Romans were great imitators of the Greeks and we can see how they admired them immensely - imitation is the highest form of flattery, they say. We can see an exciting example of beautiful 3rd Century BC Greek mosaic work at Amphipolis in northern Greece, which is now being excavated.

The town was started in 300 BC, the roman's didn't make it part of the empire for over 300 years . Not to mention, the western part of Anatolia was mostly Greeks. The explanation is simple. It is an ancient town and an ancient script from which today's modern letters originated: Serbian, Russian, Greek, etc. In Serbian we write today: АНДРОМЕДА, ПЕРСЕЈ, and we write exactly the same before Cyrillic script, on so-called Serbica letter. Ancient Serbica and Cyrillic script is very close letters. Kyrillos and Methodios did not do a big job. It is no coincidence that the Serbs in March celebrate the new 7527th year. That certainly did not bring us Kyrillos and Methodios. We all have the same roots.

This is the third idiotic video that say's "Roman" town. It was a GREEK town, founded in 300BC. The Romans conquered it in 69 BC. Over 200 years later. West coast of what is now Turkey was mostly Greek cities and settlements.

Stop the nonsense! Zeugma was 100% Greek....Zeugma (Greek: Ζεῦγμα) is an ancient Greek city located in modern Gaziantep Province, Turkey. It was named for the bridge of boats, or zeugma, that crossed the Euphrates river at that location...Originally, the ancient city of Zeugma was founded as a Greek settlement by Seleucus I Nicator, one of the generals of Alexander the Great, in 300 BC... and there is nothing you can do to change that!

I don't know Greek language, I am Serbian. Can anyone tell me why can I read all those writings as it is written in my language? It's much, much closer to Serbian Cyrillic ('Персеј' [upper right corner 21:45]) then to a Greek (Περσέας). Or even Андромеда on the left, same frame. Is it because it is Macedonian and not Greek? I understand Macedonian language. Macedonian people understand me even if I talk in Serbian to them. This is not the case with Greek people. Does Macedonian people speak ancient Greek nowadays?..I don't thing so... I do not clam this is not ancient Greek I'm just telling you something truthfully which you should consider when thinking about this.

The answer is very simple dear Orthodox Brother (from the greek word Ορθοδοξία that means ''the right glory'' -you write ортодонтска that means nothing in your language, examples Ορθογώνιο= the right angle , Ορθώς = right , Ορθή σκέψη = the right thought). So here we go. At the past there where 2 Greek monks from the Byzantine time, Kyrillos and Methodios. These guys sended by the Patriarch to the Barbarian slavic world at the north borders of the empire to Christianise them, to made them allies ofc and stop them from the raidings to the empire. The problem when they reach there was that they didnt had write system and the language stay alive only by speaking (so how they could speak about God and left some writings about christianity???). So they made an alphabet. The kyril alphabet. They translate every Slavic speak into letters and THEY USE FOR BASE THE GREEK ALPHABET. (part 1) i will come back with part 2.

Part 2. Macedonia was is and will be Greek. But i can example this not through history this time but from a fact. Example i am Greek and i go first time to Cyprus. There i hear Cypriotic and i can undestand everything. So i think Cypriots are .... Greeks like me. Maybe now u can understand here something. U are Serbian and u went to Skopia for first time (Macedonia was is and will be always Greek). There u hear Skopian Vardaskian and u understand everything. So u think Skopians are..... Serbians like me!!!!! And ferthermore Slavs like u. (part 2) i will come back with part 3.
@panoskatselis2434
@panoskatselis2434 7 жыл бұрын
Part 4. Conclusions For part 1 u must undestand the origin of your alphabet (from the greek word AΛΦΑΒΗΤΟ from the first 2 letters of greek alphabet ΑΛΦΑ (Α), ΒΗΤΑ (Β) . Who was Kyrillos and Methodios. Why they had Greek Alphabet as base to made Kyrillic and not Latin like other slav nations Slovenian , slovakia, Croatia etc. I could answer here because they accept Orthodoxy and not Catholic like those guys did, search it. For part 2 u must think i am Serbian so i am Slav , who is it possible to understand someone who says i am not Slav and i have origin as Macedonian? 2 are the answers here and only. 1st this means that Serbians are Macedonians and not slavs or 2nd these skopians are slavs like me and those they say about ancestors at Macedonia are lie. For part 3 u must learn that all those periods we had many Greek dialects. For example Alexandrians time world used ''koine' Greek. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koine_Greek Another example . ΜΑΚΕΔΝΟΣ (ΜΑKEDNOS) at Argian dialect means ''tall''. And Alexander said that our decent is from the city of Argos. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argos Search search search and again search to find your answers.

Bratislav Isailović You ought to be very grateful to the greeks Kyrillos and Methodius who created the Cyrillic alphabet, which is more closely resembled the greek alphabet. So, you can read a part of these greek words due to the greek origins of your slavic alphabet, due to the Greeks.....!!! Read history my friend....!
