Actually, the sovereign in the UK is "the Crown in Parliament". Parliament is for passing legislation. The UK executive is solely responsible for negotiating international treaties on behalf of the UK.

So the sovereign has agreed the Protocol. Time for NI to obey?

@@colmquinn7860 This is your matter, not mine. I'm simply pointing out what is actually _sovereign_ in the UK. And ofc the ultimate sovereign is the creator and judge of the heavens and the earth. But, with regards to the NI, . It is ephemeral . It is mutable . It requires the _consent_ of the NI assembly. . It has inbuilt review mechanisms . It has an inbuilt mechanism for suspension, in the event of serious and ongoing societal, economic or environmental disruption. I know you like ordering people around, but the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. The NI is intended to _facilitate_ trade, not _disrupt_ it. And we all have want that... Don't we? And we all want peace in NI, don't we?

Your sovereign appointed Boris and the Tory majority to be the executive government. That government agreed the Protocol. Not to support that chain of command makes you a dis loyalist? I make no rules and obey the law of the land. I live in a republic

The acts of Union establish freedom of trade and access to any port within the UK. And the commons makes UK legislation at a national level. Devolved parliaments have competences to deal with the matters pertinent to the constituent countries of the UK. The UK is, of course, a fairly loose affiliation of countries forming the nation of the UK. But that's fine. That's the way we like it. We like the celts being the celts, the Welsh being the Welsh, the Scots being the Scots, Northern Ireland being Northern Ireland. It works for us.

The UKIM is defined by the acts of Union.

Northern Ireland did not "vote to remain". This is a red herring. Northern Ireland *never held EU membership* so it was impossible for them to "vote to remain". The UK held EU membership. NOT Northern Ireland, or Scotland, or Wales or England, or Gibraltar.

Wrt "anti brexit" and "Pro remain".... Newsflash : the UK has *left the EU.* There's no such thing as "Pro remain". We've left. 😎 And as for the anti brexit brigade, they've failed. I think these people live in a "world of pure imagination".

The NIP is ephemeral. It is designed to be replaced. That was the intention from the start. The UK is developing "UK border 2025" to replace it. And the NI assembly can be sold on withdrawing consent for the NIP with the "UK border 2025" alternative measures and CPTPP membership. Northern Ireland will gain tariff free access to the APAC as we accede, most likely before the end of 2022. The UK has already got one Freeport, Teesside, up and running. Things are moving forward for the UK, outside the EU.

We already have a freeport in the Republic .. there was no need to leave the EU to establish one.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_Free_Zone. As part of the protocol NI should have the advantage of access to all of the GREAT deals that the UK can produce as well as those via the EU. Good luck with the Brexit Sir.

@@joeococonnor EU rules render them next to useless. I really don't care what you do in RoI. It's totally irrelevant to both me and the UK. After Maastricht, all the duty free /, freeports in the UK became absolutely pointless and unviable. The UK has now lowered its outward tariffs and UK has come out from behind the notorious high EU tariff wall. The UK has now granted Freeport status to eight ports, with (at least two) more to come. And the teesside consortium is now up and running. But let me point out, *one big difference* between the UK and the RoI. The RoI *is an EU member* and takes its rules for trading from the EU _commission,_ under the auspices of the ECJ. The UK *is **_not_** a member of the EU* and *does not* take its rules from the EU. The UK *sets its own tariffs* to markets outside the UKIM. The RoI *does **_not_** set its own external tariffs.* So. Anything you say about what the RoI . Does . Did . Can do . Can't do . Wants to do . Scooby doo Has *absolutely no bearing on or interest to ME.* 😎 I'm very happy for you. And your Freeport. Operating under EU rules. It's nothing to do with me because, *I'm living in the UK and the UK is not a member of the EU.* And strange as it may seem, Joe, neither is the UK, the Republic of Ireland. So, enjoy your ROI / EU Freeport, and the UK will do its _own thing,_ outside the EU. All the best to you and your Freeport. 😎 One more thing, Joe. Before you try, I'm not interested in joining the . EU . SM . CU . ECJ Or _anything pertaining to the EU._ So before you try.... If you're _tempted, just a little bit_ ... If you get an _urge_ ... if you get a kind of _itch_ ... to start talking about EU membership to me.... Don't. Don't even start. Because.... I'm *not interested.* 😉

The UK will remain intact, despite any attempts to leverage the brexit vote to break it up.
