Here we see an operation that is rarely viewable by passengers. The CWR train carries and delivers long "strings" of rail. The location in which the train was dropping rail allowed for one to see the operation from a public area. Enjoy!

So I guess in the next decade we won't hear the iconic "clacking" of the wheels against the break in the rails. It seems like all aspects of familiarity are leaving very suddenly.

Nice work! I saw this train going into the East New York Yard one evening while waiting for the J. I wonder if it picked up the rail from the Linden Shop? Has anyone ever seen a train use that connection where the IRT connects to the BMT over by Livonia?

Almost as interesting is watching the PD ("power distribution") teams maintain the third-rails in the system. They actually cut and weld those rails while they're charged with 600 volts (255 amps) of electricity. I doubt even the late, great Evel Knievel ever would've had the nerve to do that job!

Do you know how the CWR is loaded onto these flat cars? It looks like they have an integrated gantry. Do they just pull them off of a conventional railroad consist? I've seen NYCTA flat cars on their own wheels in a "real" railroad freight yard, so I guess it's possible they send them out into the world empty and get them delivered loaded. Maybe it's something else! I'd be curious to know! KZbin is deciding to show me your CWR videos now. They are great videos!

These strings are 100lb rail. I don't believe any other weight would be able to make all the serpentine/hairpin turns in the system without issue.

Hey Dj Hammers, I've always wondered, Why do the wheels on these trains have those white markings on them? I've seen them as a little kid, and everyone I've asked cant give me an answer.
@DJHammersTrains
@DJHammersTrains 5 жыл бұрын
Those white markings exist so that they can be used as an easy indicator to check if a wheel is rolling or not. It’s used to catch things like frozen axles, locked brakes, etc. Hope this answers your question! :D
@alb12345672
@alb12345672 5 жыл бұрын
There are companies that have complex software systems that read those markings with special cameras and software. They can tell alot about the health of the wheel. This is one upstate NY, I actually interviewed there. www.iem.net/commercial-motor-vehicles?id=149 Another... www.selectravision.com/wheels.php

Why don't letter trains use the express track like the N and W lines from Astoria blvd to Queensboro Plaza
@joet5986
@joet5986 5 жыл бұрын
Because those lines don't have a high enough frequency to utilize express service and because then if they do there will be less local trains leading to complaints from riders

Ali Muhammad That pretty good idea. The (C) is really good train to rely on.
@sonicboy678
@sonicboy678 5 жыл бұрын
@Ali Muhammad That's a terrible idea. If you want to get rid of that shuttle, send all of the trains currently serving Lefferts Boulevard down to Rockaway Park, passing the former to the C. As for express service, speed alone isn't enough to justify the change.
@TheRailLeaguer
@TheRailLeaguer 5 жыл бұрын
sonicboy678 Rockaway Park is lightly used to warrant express service. If the C were sent to Lefferts, then it would subject a large amount of people to slow local service. The Far Rockaway and Lefferts Branches have more ridership than the Rockaway Park Branch. Therefore, both should retain the express service and the lightly used Rockaway Park Branch can have C service.

I was just thinking, hmm🤔...... If it was up to me, (with the right resources) the (H) & would become a thing for real! Here's how: ReActivate the lower level at City Hall under the (R) & (W) for the (H) local, express by enhancing the station (ADA compliance, escalators, the works)... Both these services would follow the (R) & (W): the (H) would run local during rush hours, as the would run express during the morning 🌄, noon, and evening rush hours. Other times, the (H) services would relieve both the (N) & (Q) on off peak times. Both the (H) & would follow along the (R) route to to Queens Plaza, which the (H) & would go express towards a turn off diverging away from the (E),(F),(M), and (R) onto a reactivated, rebuilt, fortified Rockaway line towards the (A) line's Rockaway branch towards JFK Airport's Airtrain to the airport: A much faster, direct train through the business districts, and midtown Manhattan through Broadway to John F. Kennedy Airport🚇✈🛫🛬! Trains can get business travelers to and from the airport directly during peak rush hours! Then now travelers can have much more options to get to the Airport✈ by rail🚇:(A),(E),(H),,(J),. That's if it were up to me though!

So you telling me (correct me if I’m wrong) but these guys used 4 flatbed cars, and 3 locomotives to carry 4 lines of rail, and all they did was just drop it. I’m thinking they were going to replace it with the existing rail or something. But all that, all those crew members there just to drop the rail on the tracks then go home 😂😂
@BenTheMiner
@BenTheMiner 5 жыл бұрын
It says 8 flatbed cars, and it's an easy job because it's all welded together so it's good

for your information in 2017 there was a derailment on the A-line because this was not properly place on the track the reason they are there is so it gets placed right so they don't have a another derailment like before

@Ali Muhammad ??? Also, what do you know about light loads? Are you assuming that is light? How about the 8 other flatbed cars with all the rails and extra stuff? What if they need the other locomotives?
@vlogsquad4266
@vlogsquad4266 5 жыл бұрын
Ali Muhammad it’s not a light load and those locomotive engines are under powered due to EPA and emissions laws. So it takes 3 to do what 2 of the older ones can do .
