Contranomicon is the PERFECT name! At first glance, I thought that you created another instrument, Mr Bobo!

7:48= You see how low is the instrument when its "Extreme Altissimo" range is still notated with a G-clef _Ottava Bassa_ .
@Sean-of9rs2 жыл бұрын
True, although that's not exactly why it's notated that way-the contrabassoon is most commonly a transposing instrument and writes all music an octave higher than sounding pitch. This transposition applies to all clefs. Richard Bobo prefers to make the transposition explicit using 8vb clefs (which technically means the contrabassoon is playing at concert pitch), but in order to keep things unambiguous, he never mixes 8vb clefs and normal clefs. Of course, the reason for the contrabassoon transposing is probably because it's so low :)

@@Sean-of9rs, first of all, thank you for telling me the correct "Concert Pitch" term. I also prefer explicit notation. In my case, I'm editing some beginner pieces for one Piano, 4 hands. A common trope for it is the fact that the _Primo_ part almost always plays the exact notes, in different octaves. In the traditional scores, they used a line of 8va or 15ma in the entire piece. I don't like it. For a cleaner reading, I chose to use octave clefs. Lines only in small parts. I'm aware that Octave Clefs are more common for transposing instruments. But, you see: my Piano Teacher is a Modernist in essence (also a Rockstar and a "Jazzist"). My composition teacher, on other hand, is more of a Romantic conservative. Both of them agreed with my choice, so... I tend to always prefer what gives us a more direct and cleaner reading. PS: In my first comment I wanted to write "C-clef". Only today I saw that I wrote "G".

@@JohannaA.5013 G clef is the correct one though :) the chart does use G clef for extreme altissimo I actually don't prefer explicit transposition because of the exact situation you're in! If you write for an octave transposing instrument, ottava clefs are unclear, since they could mean to lower the music an octave in addition to the octave lower from transposition (my preferred meaning), or they could just be used as a "sign" to show you that this instrument transposes, which you probably should already know. And when you use that "sign" to show that the instrument transposes, that instrument is now technically reading in concert pitch. It's fine to use ottava clefs in your case imo, since you're not using it to signify that the piano transposes down an octave. Hope that was clear lol

Subcontranomicon when? That can be a One True Fingering Chart since there's only one true subcontrabassoon.

Well, right now the "Subcontranomicon" would just be a drawing of which holes to tape shut for each note. But I'm hoping to change that soon.

Every time I watch your channel, I have the desire of learning the Bassoon. And the Contra. And to buy one "Bobo Subcontra" made of top seasoned Alpine Maple, with keys made of Rhodium and Rose Gold. Who needs two kidneys? But, would we need a trolley just for carrying it? And, for those who have spine problems, It would be nice to invent a stand for letting it already into the playing position.
