Jackson Browne's Running on Empty. I actively dislike virtually everything else he did, but man, that one album is soooo good. What a cool concept for an album - not exactly a "live album" in the usual sense, but a sort-of "concept album" or "audio scrapbook" about that tour with recordings made on the tour bus, in sound checks, in hotel rooms, backstage as well as some regular live songs actually recorded live on stage. I love everything about it. But just that one album. Great songs, great performances, everyone involved sounds like they're being loose and having fun (not usually the case with his overly-perfect, LA studio-pro sounding albums) and I just love it.

It was called The Joe Perry PROJECT. I think the use of the term 'project' makes it open to having interchangeable musicians. My favorite band/project of recent years is Scoredatura (with an 'e' in the middle); have a core of the same drummer, guitar player, bass player with guest guitarists on almost every song. Aussie Instrumental Prog Metal; A stripped down version of 'Djent' with 70s hard rock, metal, prog, & fusion elements.

If Martin Popoff is on the panel, it's The Beatles and The White Album, right?😬 The low-hanging fruit for me would be Television and Marquee Moon. The Ramones and their debut album. Definitely agree with Grant on Avalon. I've tried to get into other Roxy Music, but none of it is Avalon. Barenaked Ladies - Gordon. I love this album, was my introduction to them, sounds like they were trying harder than on the later ones. Pato Banton - Never Give In is another like Gordon. First album was amazing, rest of the catalog seems to be 1-2 good tracks each, rest filler. Metallica - Kill 'Em All. I like the rawness here. I can respect the next couple of records, but I never reach for them any more. Genesis - Duke. I spent a lot of time in high school with this, reading the lyrics, looking at the album art. I never could get into the early stuff, and later albums were just hits and filler to me. Duke I like all the way through. Elvis Costello - Punch the Clock. No special connection with this, it's just the one that sounds good and I like most of it rather than just a couple songs. Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man. Another debut that feels more substantial than the later ones. None of his records are bad, but this is the one that made the lasting impression: much deeper and darker than the later poppier stuff. Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley. I like all their albums, but this is the only one to command rapt attention all the way through.

Pearl Jam - Ten. Their debut album still had the big arena rock sound of Mother Love Bone, which I loved. Afterwards, Eddie Vedder took a more dominant role in the direction of the band and steered them towards a direction that didn't really do much for me. After their debut, each subsequent album became more and more hit and miss for me, and eventually more miss. But Ten is a masterpiece. Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane. Another great debut, and then they became absolute garbage afterwards. Helmet - Meantime. The debut, Strap It On, is a little too raw for me, but it's not bad. The third album, Betty, is a little too commercial, but still not bad. But Meantime is perfection. After Betty, Helmet totally lost the plot. I absolutely agree about both those Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock albums. Both are way too much fun, and neither of them did anything even remotely as good afterwards.

Those I'd suggest listening to if you want to listen to more INXS. I'm a huge fan as you can tell so, I'll say Elegantly Wasted isn't a bad album but a bit of a disappointment because they've had others that are way off the charts better, in my opinion. It has a couple of good songs like Don't Lose Your Head and the title track. I just don't like the last four songs at all. It's also the last album the band made with Michael Hutchence before he died. I won't listen to the one they made without him. Their debut is more of a punk album. It has one good song called Just Keep Walking. The next three are very new wave in its sound. Shabooh Shoobah has their first US hit, The One Thing and Don't Change, a great rock tune. And The Swing has Original Sin. If you have any questions, let me know. I'm a major fan 😁

And everything after "Easter" just boring and not my cup of tea. But man, oh, man, does "Easter" do it for me from start to finish! For me, it's the one album where Patti Smith's vision of melding rock and poetry actually comes together and works, and holy hell does it ever work. There's still a certain degree of the pretentiousness factor to be found here, as on all her albums, but it's well within my spectrum of acceptability on Easter because the songs and the performances are so great. Love the first one, wasn't keen on the second, couldn't bear the third. I'm not a big Men at Work fan or AC/DC. But I like AC/DC better. Back in Black is the only AC/DC album I own, but I think the Bon Scott days were more interesting. I didn't eat vegemite, but I did photograph a kangaroo and a koala 🤣🤣

People have a right to their taste and opinion, but Martin, you are the King of the hot take. You are the king of the “look at my edgy opinion” opinion. The Beatles-White Album? GTFOOH

I don't understand anyone who thinks the first Joe Perry Project record is the best or thinks that version of Let The Music Do The Talking is better than the Aerosmith version. Sweet baby Yoda, the singer is awful and the lyrics are stupid. Tyler's rewrite is a million times better and Aerosmith performs it with pure rock fury.

Grant strikes again.... 1. ALL of the ROXY MUSIC albums are great (save for maybe Flesh & Blood), and the people who say what he says ("only Avalon") are either girls who don't really love music, or douchey guys who don't really love music, and/or don't take chances with music. 2. While I agree about the debut album's quality, ALL of the DIRE STRAITS albums are great, other than "Brothers In Arms," which has a way of making me wanna puke. But to say that the first LP is "that" much different from Communique or Making Movies...or LOG, is lame and just kinda stupid. Honestly though, some of Grant's opinions set "music" back at least 40 years. *Btw, the guy in the bottom right corner should not be allowed to do ANY more shows concerning music. I mean, dude, Twain, Limp Biscuit and Kid Rock? Barf!

Agree with everything you said…Roxy albums are excellent esp up to Manifesto. Brothers is definitely worst Dire Straits album. I love most of what Grant says…however he was off on this show.

Elder of Rock Guy mentioned bands that do not fit whatsoever on this format.

@@webbvandiver9139 Heh! Right on. Thanks for the kind (and rightfully knowing) reply. Appreciate your Rock 'n Roll wisdom. As for Grant, he seems like a decent guy and all, but man, this is "not" the first time.

@@CathyLahn no problem! Huge music fan…1968-82/83 is my wheelhouse for knowledge although love lotta music after that timeframe. Making movies is a killer record, LOG is solid too. Been following Grant’s warehouse and contrarians channel for about 1.5 yrs tops. Love SoT shows and most of Pete’s panel regulars. Rock on!!🤘🏻

@@webbvandiver9139 Ha! You just pretty much mentioned what I call the True Golden Age of ROCK (1965-1982) Me too! I also dig things after that, but it's a selective thing. Rock 'n Roll was so brilliant and fantastic throughout the 1970s! Imagination and headphones. Then....MTV, the Reagans, MJ, fake drums, head stockless guitars, pop hair metal and shoulder pads took over. And that stuff... just ain't "rock n roll."

Not fair!! I love In Through the Outdoor. Led Zeppelin III doesn't do it for me except for Immigrant Song. They left off Traveling Riverside Blues and Hey, Hey, What Can I Do? They should've put those songs on, I love them. I'd listen to that album more. And Presence. I love Nobody's Fault but Mine and Run for Your Life. I like Achilles Last Stand but it's too long and a bit overrated. Tea for One is okay. The rest I just can't listen to AT ALL!! I can listen to everything on Led Zeppelin III up to Hats off to Roy Harper. I don't know what the hell that one is about?! The rest is listenable after Immigrant Song I just don't love it.
