As a Newcastle fan I will be the first to call out the Saudi ownership of its human right abuses. I understand seeing my beloved team win brings joy unparalleled especially when you compare it with the Ashley years. Still, to ignore the controversy around us and Blame it all on “mainstream media bias” is a disservice to what our club stands for. We all enjoy winning. But we shouldn’t be ignorant of very real issues behind the purchase of our club. It is a conflicting feeling. So to any Newcastle fans out there who might or might not agree, just keep in mind why they purchased us. Yes, we’re allowed to enjoy winning, but also Remember , just like our team colours, there’s always a black and white side to everything .

Great comment man, I do find it incredible that some people expect Newcastle fans to not enjoy any success that may come their way due to the their ownership. Football is about escapism at the end of the day and what happens in the boardroom is out of their control

@@Vizeh oh my days i never thought you’d pin this and even reply I’ve been a fan of yours for so long Liam and I know I’m rambling but you really made my day 😂 anyways back to the topic, I agree 100% with what you said. As football fans of course we’d be on cloud 9. Any fanbase would, it’s just that Newcastle fans happened to be “fortunate” enough that it happened to us. But the fact that most fans are so happy that they conveniently overlook the issues surrounding our owners is precisely why they bought us in the first place. To say that their prime motive was “to restore newcastke to its former glory” is either tone deaf, naive, or delusional. Anyone with a brain knows what sports washing is and how it operates, and this was a prime example of how successful it could be. So it’s been a helluva ride, but I can’t say I’ve enjoyed the view throughout completely

@@prisonmike1139 I agree with everything mentioned. It is sport washing no question about it. However all rival fans that have a go at us for our ownership while typing up their message on a phone that’s been put together by a 7 year old child in a third world country are massive hypocrites. For me it’s the holier than thou attitutude when in reality most people never gave a crap about Saudi human rights until 3 years ago. Truth is with globalization and capitalism this kind of stuff is unavoidable. It doesn’t make it right but we’re too far gone and it won’t change. I’d rather focus on the football.

@@martinnikodinoski6474 fair attitude to have. I think a lot of fans having a pop at us are just jealous. I imagine if another club instead of us gets taken over like that, and tbf our reaction would probably be the same as them, so I mostly ignore them. Because the owners have put Newcastle fans in an awkward position where when rival fans criticise our owners, I see a lot of our fans jumping to defend them or saying “what about this what about that”, which personally I would never do because I would never defend human rights abuses, whether it’s from the Saudis or the US in Guantanamo bay

In 2018 one of most historical Portuguese clubs was split in half which was CF Os Belenenses.Essentialy the club set up a SAD in 1999 to run the professional football team of CF Os Belenenses. When the club split in 2018 the professional team which was the SAD stayed in the first division while the CF Os Belenenses registered in the 6th division (they have now been promoted to the 2nd division) while the SAD are in 2nd division but currently could be relegated. As a Newcastle fan I was reluctant to watch this as most fan bases blaming money for our success this season. It was good to see a well balanced argument that Howe has improved pretty much every player that was already at the club. All Newcastle fans wanted was an owner that respected the club, the city and had a bit of ambition. Do i feel 100% comfortable with the ownership? No, but do other fans expect us to boycott our club? Where were all these self righteous fans when Chelsea were bought out?

I am happy for Newcastle fans, they deserve this type of success after Mike Ashley's ownership. Credit is due to Eddie Howe on Newcastle's rise and their scouting and transfers have also been smart since they haven't invested the money like Man City has. I look at more the staff recruitment of Newcastle. Instead of recruiting players, Newcastle have recruited a lot of staff from top 6 clubs. As an Arsenal fan, I am well aware they recently got our talent scout Eddie Black. It's a different approach but kind of cool. However, I doubt these staff members aren't getting paid a lot more than their former clubs and I doubt they would have joined Newcastle in the first place.

As a West Ham fan I do agree we are a good comparison but you also have to take into account: a) second year in a row in Europe. Our players have been knackered and rotational minimal. (As a Burnley fan you know the effect it can have ;) ) b) ALOT of injuries from the new signings, meaning adaptation has been super slow and rotations couldn’t be made. c) Moyes experimenting with a new system. A lot of the summer signings were to transition into a possession based way of playing. That failed, went back to counter attacking and now we’re safe. Transition seasons can be hard, even when spending a lot. Newcastle could feel the effect of Europe next season d) VAR has not been our friend. Maybe personal bias, but there are some stats out there about our net point gain due to errors with VAR. probably the least valid point here and everyone probably feels that way about their club! Definitely been a frustrating year for us, but back to back semi finals, and a promising hope of a final. Overall, good video, and I agree with a lot of your points!

I think the biggest issue with football owners is that with top flight clubs they are worth so much and there’s such a small group of people with that kind of wealth. It’s hard to criticize a club for being owned by rich people when the club costs so much just to by let alone run

@@claytonmeeks6562 Wrong, you haven't a clue why UK supporters choose their teams. The fans are very aware of the Saudi regime, however the Saudi regime does not control Newcastle United on the pitch. Most of the fans have supported the club from their early years and will always support the club, they don't really care what the owners choose to do in their own country, pretty much the same as they wouldn't care if the club was owned by a Chinese company. There are a lot of other clubs throughout the world with foreign owners, but at the moment Newcastle are in the spotlight. Or was it a virtue signalling instance that you acknowledge the wrongs but CHOOSE to just focus on the Individual companies? If you support any of these companies you support the regime. Same regime that hangs people from cranes for absurd reasons. Either you have an extremely skewed grasp on reality and choose only to see and interpret things solely as black or white, or, the most likely answer, you just don't like Newcastle, which is by all means your prerogative, but a really pathetic one if you've allowed a game of football to fuel this much distain and hatred that you'd go to the lengths of condemning everyone who supports the club just to make yourself feel better. If that really isn't the case, then I don't know what to tell you but you need to start educating yourself on how many companies AND countries deal with Saudi as well as how many countries other than Saudi also carry out immoral actions, either you can choose to accept there is a separation required for these things or you can choose to deny it, but I'd expect you to follow through completely on your morals and not use or consume any products made by companies, or live in any country, that has any sort of dealings with a person or country that supports the use of immoral actions, which I'll tell you now, is absolutely impossible.

This isn’t just about the money. Tottenham was perfectly capable of spending €60m for Bastoni but he didn’t consider the club attractive enough. Newcastle could have perfectly cobble up enough money to sign Trippier but he would have never sign under the previous ownership. The same applies for virtually all other names they signed. The saddest part is that if Newcastle would have been acquired by someone not as rich we would have all been celebrating this.

I’m a newcastle United fan, had a season ticket for almost 10 years (season we got relegated to be exact), I’ve seen some shocking football and no investment. Rafa always wanted the investment, but never got it, which is why he left. Same with good footballers, who all left because they were to never see a future. When we got taken over, I was over the moon and have been ever since that we actually go to a match and have a belief we will win most games, and not that we are going to lose. I do get all of the controversy about the owners, but as fans, it’s not out issue, we just want the football on the pitch to be exciting. Any other fans would have loved to be in our position.

Perhaps, but if I have to speak for myself I don't want my club (local Dutch team) to ever be taken over by a rich owner. I'd much prefer if they keep being shrewd in the transfer market and develop youngsters from the academy and go along with the wave pattern of that. I know that in the PL this is a lot more difficult nowadays due to the financial craziness of all the clubs there but it just feels more earned that way. For me, that's the big difference between the Barca team back when Guardiola was there and the current Man City team. I liked the Barca team because they had a core of youth players and didn't splash the cash too much (they've gone downhill a lot since then). You can argue that City also didn't splash too much overall compared to other PL sides but the amount of investment they've done over the years is still insane compared to other clubs outside of England and I've just never really liked them because of it. They basically have a squad that can field a second starting eleven which can probably challenge for top 4, maybe even for the title. I just don't want to end up with a league where basically only the clubs that have a rich owner can ever the league. I know the Bundesliga has its issues with Bayern but in that regard I think it's a more interesting league to watch then the Premier League.

Leeds fan living in Newcastle for Uni. Grouping in the fans with the ownership is shameless and unfair - this city, like Leeds, breathes football. Carabao cup final at a pub with my friends was so much fun even though it wasn't my team involved; so many heartbroken tears spilled by the Newcastle fans shows how much this means to them.

As a newcastle fan, I think we all understand our links with Saudi Arabia and it’s something we can never escape but it’s unfair to blame the fans or target the fans- we didn’t chose to get taken over by the PIF and we wouldn’t want the Saudi human rights violations to carry on if we had a choice in it (which we don’t). Plus, it’s frustrating when people pin everything on the money rather than the rise of the team, in general just a messy subject lol

I’m a Leeds fan, but I’ve never had a bad bone with Newcastle. The Magpies have a proud history, and I do love the link we share with some players (Batty, Bowyer, Viduka, Smith, Speed (rip) and Woodgate, to name a few). Even raised a toast whilst in the city to Gary Speed with some fans. But there’s defo a can of worms waiting to be opened with their new owners. I do think more people need to be talking about this.

As a fan of genuine football, rather than money football (ie Man City, Chelsea ), I like the way that Newcastle have gone about their business in the transfer market. They have started to build a dynasty on solid ground, blending players gradually rather than buying superstars and hoping they could blend. As for the owners, I believe that most of the criticism from other football fans is due to jealousy. If it was their club, they would have kept quiet. As to the political criticism, it is the same left wing suspects who pop up every single time. I believe that if it was up to them, no-one would be allowed to be rich and powerful and be able to buy anything. Carry on Newcastle, you're doing a great job. Ignore all the jealous champagne socialists.

I think the problem already starts with the missing 50+1 rule in british football so saying that Newcastle didn't spent much moneys compared to other premier league teams makes sense but in Germany no team ranked below 5th place could spent half of the money newcastle did

Theirs always a sliver lining with any team being bought by an investor depending on what it is. Their spending power was less money spent than the bigger teams and finished 4th and runner's up in a cup final. Every team in every league deserves the best to win leagues and cups.

As a Man United supporter the takeover of Newcastle has put them on a path for great success for the future just like what happend to Man City and even Chelsea before the Amercian owner came in and ruiined them. For me even with all the problems with the owners and the country, this is a great succes story in the terms of one full season with a new owner and there getting some sort of European football. It's mental that they will be playing UCL football next season and they will be able to bring in players that will make them better. They will compete for trophies next season if they sign the right players and move on the right players as well. Ps QATAR WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?? BUY MY CLUB SO WE CAN COMPETE WITH THESE LOT 😭😭

I think outside of football they're probably the worst on how they get money but in terms of football, they're just like any other owners. they're not like psg where they splash out because they can they've been smart so far and have acted like any other owner (except boehly) We should see how they do in the window if they turn out like city then I think it'll be annoying. But so far they've not done anything that has gave them an unfair advantage.

All of the controversy is Jealousy and envious. Saudi are tied to us but they don't have any control in our club, that was the reason why it was allowed. Yes, we have access to the investment fund sort of like a piggy bank but we don't get the privilege of spending whatever we want like City and Chelsea did or any of the current "big 6" who managed to establish themselves with the foundation to keep them at the top. Basically, opposition fans are looking at our club as if it is going to be the same as the City/ Chelsea model. IT ISN'T.

As a Newcastle fan ofcourse i would have preferred that a Nation or person that doesn't have a questionable human rights record would have bought my club. My other concern is that if we are ever successful, that the team will not get the credit deserves and it would just be brought back to Saudi sportwashing.

Man city is owned by the vice president and a member of the royal family of UAE, much like the owner of Newcastle is to Saudi Arabia, not an oligarch like you put it. As a fan since childhood ( 66 now! ) I too have reserves about the ownership. However the world is not a good place. Countries invade others, people go short whilst bosses rinse massive profits payouts, and equalities abound across the planet. The reality exists that the sport I love is money driven, Man City are about to buy another title, and the PSGs of this world succeed in the same way. My point is that the people who point the finger at Newcastle are in all probability wearing, using or watching on items made in China, by in all probability slave labour, or even worse, children. The day that we are able to stand up and declare that we will be prepared to pay a whole lot more for everything rather than funding a burgeoning war machine is the day that I will listen to the argument concerning a football club. I can't change the way the premier league is funded with ridiculous inflationary money, I can't change the way the Saudis run their nation, or the rights they ignore. Our standards are different, our beliefs are more humane. The only thing I do know is that the Saudis WILL run out of oil. They WILL have a population not living on massive hand outs from the nations incredible wealth. PIF is designed for those days - they need to invest in other things, in the same way Dubai ( the first Arab nation scheduled to run out ) is now a tourist destination. Without oil money the state will change beyond belief, we can only hope that exposure to western sport also relaxes their stance towards sectors of their nation. The Ashley days are now irrelevant, I can only enjoy the new ride, and when Qatar takes over Man Utd I will keep an eye out for a similar article to this on youtube.........

Tottenham was perfectly capable of spending €60m for Bastoni but he didn’t consider the club attractive enough. Newcastle could have perfectly cobble up enough money to sign Trippier but he would have never sign under the previous ownership. The same applies for virtually all other names they signed. This is about players knowing that the spend will be permanent and pretty much nothing will be off the table. The saddest part is that if Newcastle would have been acquired by someone not as rich we would have all been celebrating this.

Just have a look at them in this summer transfer window and next summer transfer window and see what they do. Here is the thing that when you have unlimited wealth and fake sponsorship and revenue you can buy any player and you see any player and show them the project and that's it but all the clubs who don't have that are not going to be able to compete, New castle are no one they have not won anything significant in their entire history of the club and they are going to be dominating the europe and premier league , you'll see.

Newcastle is a great club whos done a great job this year. They've not just gotten a bunch of money and pumped it willy nilly like some other clubs. But I'm one of those people who can't get over the sportswashing aspect for one, but also the frustrating fact that now we've got 2 PL clubs that have more money to spend than some countries and if the Qatari Utd bid goes through then there's 3. And if Chelsea can get smarter abt their spending then thats arguably 4, thats every CL spot taken up with no other club having much of a chance to get in there, you might occasionally see liverpool or arsenal break into top 4 but any team on the same level as or worse than spurs can kiss those positions goodbye.
Chelsea are in trouble.
