My ex husband was raped and abused in all other ways and he had body issues the way some woman have. As an over weight woman I had more confidence in my body than he does. He alsways felt dirty and bathed several times a days sometimes in low periods. He would cut or damage himself. He would sometimes deprive himself of food. He went to many counselors and took medication but refuse to take it as he should. He wouldn't be honest with consolors keeping his true self closed and therefore it was ineffective. In the month I divorced him a letter came from his physiatrist firing him for not following doctors orders. I mean they deal with the most extreme people. These aren't the counselors most of us go to. These are the rare doctors that treat the most vulnerable people that need intensive medication and he was fired. That shows how bad my ex was at getting help. You can't make them do what they need to do anymore than you can make another person lose weight and exercise more.

As someone born in the 90s, this doc presented a lot of shocking info I had no idea about. I knew the US was harsher on pedos than Europe but I had no idea it was the only western country to take it seriously all the way till the late 80s. And that most western countries hadn't even banned child porn at this time. This doc was made fairly recently (1987!) so that was horrifying to hear. I also didn't know pedo mags were a thing. I've heard of young celebs like Brooke Shields being exploited in Playboy & Penthouse but mags specifically targeting pedos? And seeing the ads in the Lolita mag of pedos trying to find victims was I think the most horrific part to watch for me. After watching this doc I googled some info that was even more horrific. First I found out child porn was banned in the U.S. in the 70s & most western countries didn't even ban it till the 80s. I also learned child porn mags were a huge business that ran till 2010! Anyway this is one of the most sickening docs I've ever watched but also one of the most important. Sorry for this super long comment but I needed to collect my thoughts after watching this.

I remember this episode being broadcast back in 1987 and whilst it was uncomfortable watching this back then it is somehow harder to watch again now that I have children of my own. Kudos to Roger Cook not only for exposing the slimy creep on camera who was selling this vile material but for not dragging him across the counter and beating the living crap out of him. But this was very well done and it genuinely helps with understanding what happened in my life. I stand by people being very educated on child abuse even though it is massively disturbing. Most child abuse happens in the home by parents or close family members/friends of family. The more people are aware the better chances children have of being saved from further trauma.
