I have one of those "cool" stereos from the 70's. A 1972 Marantz receiver, 1974 Pioneer turntable, and some 1978 Infinity speakers. Between them, I spent more than some might say I should have to get them all restored. I'd rather have these than anything "modern". I missed vinyl the first time, but I'm making up for it now. Listening to records is more than just hearing the music..... it's more of an event.

I watch a lot of Recollection Road videos and read a lot of the comments. One common thread is how great the "fill in the blank" decade was for those who grew up in it. I believe it had less to do with how great any one period of time was; but rather- how wonderful it was to be young, full of hope with an uncharted future ahead of you and friends taking that road with you. Most of us were unburdened by the responsibilities to come, or the terrible realities of adulthood like war, disease, poverty, mental illness. Not trying to be a downer, but just recognizing that being a kid or being younger is about the most "free" we will ever experience and because of that our memories will allow the bad times to dilute and allow us to focus on what was pleasant. Now, well past that period of life; I was able to relive it through my own children's eyes and hopefully contributed to their good memories. They are now parenting and I'll have one last chance through my grandkids eyes. Youth is special and we should all do whatever we can to keep it that way for each generation. As "Doc" said in "Back to the Future"- "The future isn't written yet, so make it a good one!"

Born 63. The 70s was the last trurly social decade. Cable TV and cell phones came out but very few had them. People talked even with strangers. When one called a business or operator there was always a human voice. Everybody read newspapers. Newspapers had diverse knowledge and everybody learned it together. There were 3 network channels and PBS and sometime a independent channel, so when something was on TV everybody watched it, such as big news, and people talked about it. People were thin, even middle aged. Many houses still had only one automobile and people still walked for transportation. Hitchhikers were common. New inventions - video games, camcorders, small home computers, cell phones, cable TV. There has not been a decade since with so many new inventions hit the market. Girls, some painted their jacket and back pockets, wore mood rings or ring from bubble gum machines. fathered hair. Movies trucking, disasters, jaws, Star wars, grease. Music Fleetwood Mac, bad company, Elton John, cheap trick, ABBA, Captain and Tennile, Boston, carpenters, BTO, Kiss and many more. The 70s was the decade that the US become a major oil importer. From World War 2 the US was a factory country. Because of resource depletion and the cost of living was increasing because more and more people had their own automobile. The factories started shutting down and moving to other countries. This would continue to around 2000. Thousands of factories gone. The end of the Vietnam war. Kids still played outside with other kids. Playing games, riding bicycles, building forts, playing cowboys and Indians, war (World War 2 of Vietnam) and cops and robbers. Cap guns still looked real, and with caps banged and smoked. Those little kids rides in front of grocery stores and K-MART, a marry go round, horse, helicopter, boat, bat mobile and others The 70s was so unique and I could go on and on. My CB handle was "Teen gigolo"

Hey there. We had 3 waterbeds in our family home in the late 1970's and early 80's. We had a CB in the family car for road trips. With a 10 foot orange antenna on the back bumper. My dad built a special Stereo Cabinet for the family stereo system. And every morning at 7am he would turn it on and Lou Rawls used to sing (You'll never find) every day for months !!! I was 9 years old and in elementary school at the Bicentennial. There were huge models of the Declaration of Independence and the bill of Rights on the Stage in the Cafeteria/auditorium. And there was Red, White, and Blue bunting and flags covering everything that was nailed down. There was a roller rink right near our house and we skated every weekend, and had most of our birthday patties AT the rink.

I’m sorry, but I seriously doubt many kids from the past 30 years can look back & say how great their childhood was & that’s really sad. We didn’t experience the things kids today do.
