THE COOLEST TOUR IN ALASKA | Matanuska Glacier | Alaska

The Matanuska Glacier is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States. It begins 27 miles and thousands of feet higher than the valley floor and is 4 miles wide. This glacier was the first real "Awe" moment we had here in Alaska on our drive up and has stuck with us ever since. With family in town, we had a great opportunity to take a tour and walk on the glacier as we learned about it. Nothing will prepare you for what you will see up close and personal on a glacier!
The thickness of the ice, the colors and how the ice moves and shifts is all very fascinating. Did you know that rocks can migrate across the surface of the glacier over a summer?! We drank some glacier water right off the ice and ended with the most amazing view of the glacier face. We regard this tour as one of the best things we have done and seen in Alaska!
