@StonewallBricks11 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it! If I remember correctly, I think there are a few parts that are not found in the set. I also think it was cheaper just to buy the needed parts on Bricklink instead of another set. Try checking the comments to see if I answered this previously when I knew the answer, lol.

Great MOC! My copy of this set is still boxed, but I am already planning on extending the building as well. I'll first build the set using the LEGO instructions, but once I finish the original build, I might consider getting your instructions. When the budget allows it, I will purchase a second copy and make a breakfast area on the ground floor, maybe even and elevator. Lots of ideas!
@StonewallBricks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sounds cool. An elevator would make that luggage rack more practical, lol

Although its beautiful and well executed, id like to see it combined with the original to make it even bigger and retain the cleverness of the original and its sharp angle design. You did an amazing job, i just like to see hotels in a bigger size than usual

You should do another modular building upgrade, maybe a interior upgrade for the town hall since its interior isn’t too detailed. Keep up the good work!

I love it and am considering getting it. I have three questions: 1 - Do you need another baseplate or two? 2 - Any illegal/questionable Lego building techniques? 3 - Can you build it bag by bag like a regular Lego set or do you have to dump all the pieces into one bin?
@StonewallBricks Жыл бұрын
1- no, it fits on the baseplate it comes with 2- the main front corner connection on each floor would not be used by Lego as it puts more stress on the parts (it's a tighter fit than intended because I used "near-pythagorean triples"). It works absolutely fine, it's just a littler harder to connect and over time it might make the pieces stretch a little which isn't a concern if you leave it as the Hotel. 3- A lot of the MOC is similar to the official set, so maybe. I'd try it bag by bag and have all the extra pieces you need to buy for the MOC sorted, ready to search through. Hope that helps and hope you enjoy it if you go for it!

Terrific redesign! Yeah, if there ever was a modular building that just screams “MOC ME” … this one is it! A “Five-Star hotel it ain’t! I think the original designer likely had to leave a lot of stuff out to achieve piece count and/or prices point! I have seen that a number of people made modifications to the set. One person mirrored the build and added a pool, hot tub, and bar area, a continental breakfast area in the lobby, a much needed common bathroom for the 2nd floor guests and was toying with making the second art gallery space into either a high end bakery or a gift/sundries shop! Lots of possibilities!
@StonewallBricks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, most of the modulars I haven't taken apart yet to MOC because I think they're already great. But this one was asking me for help. And I imagine you're probably right. I'm sure piece count is probably the most limiting and annoying factor for the designers. I read a blog where the designer said an earlier iteration had a breakfast bar that had to be scrapped. But, I still think they should have put something under the stairs.
@thomashayes5072 жыл бұрын
@@StonewallBricks … very interesting regarding the blog with the designer! I would have loved to read that. You’re absolutely right! Something needed to be added under the lobby stairs. That luggage cart is a waste too and could have been scrapped. what do you need a luggage cart for, if there’s no elevator? Those bricks could have been used for a breakfast bar, or gift/sundries shop beneath the stairs IMHO … or the badly needed common bathroom for the 2nd floor guests! 🤷🏻♂️

Pretty cool redesign! A doorway to the alley / dumpster area could be a nice improvement. Excited to see how it's going to look in your city!
@StonewallBricks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I thought about that, but it's just a tight fit. You could move the dumpster back one stud (moving the technic brick also, so it still aligns), and take out that brown bench. But I opted to keep the art on the wall instead for some color.

All I can say is god damn, amazing build! For starters it still fits the aesthetic of official modular building interiors. I know this is more of a modification and not a complete redesign but come on, it looks like an official LEGO Expert set. I'll defiantly have to try make it for myself, unequivocally stellar design.

This is a cool Idea if your city needs that height in every building but I like the originals unique scale and shape that breaks up a city street more. I’d rather just have something lower on the lower side. Small shop or whatever. (On my i put a dilapidated city park and rundown shop next to it to contrast the high rollers, heh). Love the bathroom under the stairs.
@StonewallBricks Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I like the idea of an angled building, but the boutique hotel just didn't do it for me. Maybe if it looked more like the Flatiron and was integrated on an angled street, but I imagine Lego will always have it on a grid street layout.
@danjal87nl11 ай бұрын
While I love this adaptation to fit it into a more traditional city block, I would argue that fitting the official design into a city by integrating say a low-rise structure, park or otherwise open-space area would add a lot of character to a city layout. Essentially two sides of the same coin. Where I think the added creativity of finding ways to fit more unconventional designs in goes really well with the creativity angle LEGO prides itself on.

The out of the box Boutique Hotel would be perfect for a "Y" street setup.. which I am not sure is even possible with Lego cuz everything is squares? But when "you're part of a team 🎶.." maybe?
@StonewallBricks Жыл бұрын
I've seen angled streets with some brick-built roads, but I've never tried it. And that could be a cool application but you'd still have to modify the base of the stock set to take out the art gallery.
@bricklover22582 жыл бұрын
That is absolutely awesome. I love it. Though I won't do any changes to mine I do wish the set had more then 1 bathroom so my guest didn't have to rush next door to my police station or down the street further to the detectives office to use the bathroom.
