As I do this, what I naturally do subconsciously is, Complete stop, pull up parking brakes while my foot is on the brake pedal, and then move it to neutral. After I let go of brake pedal, i take off my seat belt while I see my car is being held by my brakes, then i push the brake pedal and move the gear to park and then let go of pedal and then shut down my car.

Yes, handbrake or neutral, whichever first doesn’t matter. So you can put handbrake first or neutral it’s all good and the rest as shown on the video.

To move an automatic: Brake on. Shift to D. Take Handbrake off. Then while foot still on Brake observation including blind spot. Signal if needed When safe, release brake and drive on with gently acceleration.

No, you won't fail. So, if you took it from D to P you won't fail but not good for your car. Hope this helps!
