07:23 How Andrea gets these whistles to sound pleasant I’ll never know. Maybe because it’s so loud where they’re performing? Like, back in 2001, I was 15 and just learning the whistle. I read what kind Andrea played and ordered the exact whistle… and let me tell you.. they sound nothing like Andrea gets them to sound! 😂 If you spend a minimum of $30-50 on a whistle, it will likely be great… and if you’re willing to spend $100-200 on a finely crafted whistle, yes, anything is possible. Michael Burke whistles are a true work of art and sing like a bird. There are other makers these days that will blow your mind. Even clearer sounding than what you hear Andrea playing. Which, really, that’s not that clear, tbh.. But she is playing the Walton’s “Little Black D” whistle here; aluminum body, virtually weightless, with a rough, matte spray-paint finish. They cost roughly $5 everywhere they’re sold. I was shocked by how ‘trumpety’ it sounded when I got one. Virtually impossible to get a decent sound out of any Walton’s instrument, including their Mellow D, the Guinness whistle, and the others I’ve tried. They sound like trombones unless you place some wall tack (or chewing gum, lol) just slightly covering the opening on the mouthpiece. But why bother? Haha.
