Hello! Great content you have there, I really like the way you point out all the details that people would need to know and mistakes they need to avoid in all your videos, muchísimas gracias for your great work I'am planning on going for an ophthalmology residency in germany and I would like to know how challenging finding a place in an ophthalmology department would be compared to other specialties like reanimation, ORL, cardiology or radiology
@EutopianDoctor
@EutopianDoctor 4 жыл бұрын
As you know, the healthcare system is pyramid-shaped. At the bottom are the general practitioners. On top, internal medicine and general surgery in hospitals and then the specialties. Ophthalmology is a small specialty and therefore the need for doctors is smaller in comparison with internal diseases. This doesn't mean impossible, just not as easy. Same applies for cardiology and specialties as such. Best of luck!

@EutopianDoctor 4 жыл бұрын
There are so many I don't even know where to start :) I live in West Germany and here it's very nice and safe. Of course all cities ( big and small) have dangerous neighbourhoods, just keep yourself in the right neighbourhoods and you should be fine. Theoretically a nice part of a smaller city should cost the same as the bad part of a bigger one. You could open Google maps and look at small cities 30-40 km away from a bigger one. Good luck!

Wow your channel is one of a kind ! I study medicine in la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in your country (pero no soy de españa) but im thinking of learning German for moving there for specialization after graduating. I have a couple of questions if u dont mind : 1. People here in Spain are really friendly and i dont feel racism towards me coz i almost have the same appearance as them but in Germany the story is different , being a dark-haired person do you feel respected and well-treated in your work place and society there in Germany ? I heard nasty things from Spanish people travelling to Germany 2. Im a non-EU citizen but soon i will be applying for Spanish nationality but my question here is BEING TRAINED in an EU country does that really matter if i have an EU nationality or not for recieving APPROBATION ? the criteria is where we are trained not the nationality right ? But i guess for securing job positions in hospitals an EU citizenship would make a difference right ? (im talking about rural areas im not interested in big cities) 3. There is no MIR exam ? Is there any APTITUD TESTS? Entonces ... what is the criteria for selection ? Do they consider the GPA or credibility of the university ? I asked a lot of questions im sorry 😄 i would be really happy and grateful if u respond to my comment. Muchas gracias y Saludos desde tu país
@EutopianDoctor
@EutopianDoctor 3 жыл бұрын
Hy there! So answering your questions: 1. I have many foreign colleagues from all countries ( Indian, Arabic world, African world, etc) and they all are given a chance to prove themselves. I am not going to say that there is no racism because I would be lying, but as long as you are nice, professional and respectfull to all colleagues and patients it doesn't matter if you are white, black, green or blue :) 2. You are right, the nationality doesn't matter. All that matters is that the university where you graduated belongs to the EU. There is a German test. But other than that no attitude or GPA test. Hospitals decide whether to hire you or not based on your CV. Best of luck in the future!!!

@EutopianDoctor
@EutopianDoctor Жыл бұрын

@EutopianDoctor
@EutopianDoctor 4 жыл бұрын
I suppose the top specialties depend on the person haha they all pay the same though. Of course you will have to work very hard and keep studying everyday with the extra difficulty of doing so in a foreign country and language. Just remember that it is possible and keep going! If you know already what you will do, you could start learning about the specialty. Extra knowledge never was a problem in medicine :)

This is probably not directly related to the topic of this video but I figured why not try asking; I'm also considering Anesthesia residency in Germany and was wondering what were the employment options after residency. Is the last "step" for a Facharzt the "highest" salary an Anesthesiologist will ever get in Germany? (if he doesn't apply to be an Oberarzt or some other leadership role)? Does private practice exist for Anesthesiologists in Germany?
@EutopianDoctor
@EutopianDoctor 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if the Facharzt doesnt keep going up towards oberazrt or chefarzt, the salary reaches its maximum after a couple of years. Remember these are numbers without keeping in mind the nightshifts ( which boost the salary by around a 30% extra). About private practice I still need to do some research. Will try to do a video about it

In order to star working in France as a doctor you need to do an additional medical exam similar to the American USMLE or the Spanish MIR exams. I wanted to avoid these exams so that no exam result could influence my chances in choosing specialty. In Germany there is no such an exam.

How difficult to have a driver's license in Germany?
@ravanpee1325
@ravanpee1325 3 жыл бұрын
Round about 2000€. You have to go to a certified driving academy. Minimum of 12 special mandatory practical lessons (5 "Landstraße" outside of town/village- could equals state road in the US , 4 Autobahn, 3 at night). Average is about 30 practical lessons. 12 theoretical lesson à 90min. An theoretical exam with 30 out of 1770 possible multiple choice questions. After you passed your theoretical exam, you have to do a practical exam with your driving teacher and a certified examiner. So in comparison a) expensive and b) more difficult. You can make the theoretical exam also in English or another language
