does anyone see the problem with halifax being on par or above price wise vs toronto or montreal? Like, Halifax is not even in the same league as those cities... yet we pay like we are... it's insane.
@MsJeffreyF5 ай бұрын
Yup, there's no value to be in Halifax considering you need a massive income that will be massively taxed just to have a basic life now

Queens marque restaurants can be more expensive than similar quality food in Paris. For the same price, you get much better quality food elsewhere. Cocktails after tips and taxes are more expensive compare to a lot of expensive cities in the world. There are less choices for cheap food comparing to big cities. More taxes and high tips. It is really expensive living in Halifax considering average income

@@CcC-ie2wm it’s expensive living in Nova Scotia period. This place is a hell hole. I can’t even survive paycheque to paycheque anymore.

And not inflation adjusted. Now that things are so expensive, 6 figures feels like you're really not that far away from being homeless (unless you already own/rent a place or have family to help a lot)

And nothing to show for it. Still requiring subsadies from western provinces. Moved back to halifax from BC a few months ago. It's officially more expensive than living in Victoria. And there's literally nothing to do here that doesn't require promoting alcoholism. Ffs Victoria is 1/5 the size of Halifax with 10 times more to do. For the same price of a one bedroom apartment in Victoria BC, you can share a bedroom like you're living at home and sharing a bedroom with your siblings.

Excellent presentation. Numbeo, although not exact is a decent comparison. I'm happy that you mentioned Gateway. Most shop deals, whether it's Gateway, Superstore or Walmart. Giant Tiger and Shopper's Drug Mart are also good sources.

Considered moving to Gatineau for good rent on nice apartments. Then I researched the income tax rules for living in Quebec. Rent was not so cheap anymore.

Thought Toronto was crazy expensive (which it is), but Halifax wtf?? Toronto is Canada's largest and most diverse city which offers everything Canada has to offer. Why is tiny Halifax in the corner of nowhere that expensive??
@nicholasbaker81585 ай бұрын
Exactly, there is no reason reason why a "Have-Not" province such as Nova Scotia (Halifax) should be comparable to a city such as Toronto. This clearly demonstrates that the system is broken and things need to come back to reality. Hence, why my partner and I who are professionals are leaving despite being from here.

It took 2 years for mass immigration from India to ruin it. Also, there was a very large number of Canadians from Ontario who didnt research, and moved here because they thought the grass was greener (and theyre STILL coming) Those 2 things made this place unlivable in 2 years.
@Aubatron4 ай бұрын
Because during the “cough” lockdowns and when inflation went out of control, people from places like Ontario moved to Halifax for cheaper cost of living. Unfortunately, the provincial government didn’t protect the local economy because they knew it would benefit them through taxes, now there’s a ton of people from Ontario who came to Halifax with much more money than the average local. As a result, things have sky rocketed. Housing is one of the worst. Average home price is pretty much double what it was in 2019.
