If you have cash to burn, taking your Mercedes to the dealership is fine, they have the right tools. However, things will get expensive once the car gets older.

@benzzoy
@benzzoy 4 жыл бұрын
@@55kompressor The factory recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first, and this isn't unusual for any car; so that accounts for the 10 oil services. The factory further recommends replacing the brake fluid every other year, which is reasonable, considering DOT4 is hygroscopic. The price tags reflect dealer servicing prices, and aren't out of line; in fact, it's lower than what the dealers here in Silicon Valley charge. Sure, you can DIY it for significantly less, or bring your car to an independent, but the actual services themselves are normal, and actually include a fairly long list of inspection items if one were to do a proper factory job. However, I am similarly baffled at the number of power steering fluid changes. Unlike the motor oil and brake fluid changes, this is not part of the scheduled maintenance, other than to inspect for correct level; in fact, the service booklet do not list a service life limit for power steering fluid.

My favorite was the air filter. They charged owner an hour of shop time and what had to be $60 for the filters, which Mann sells OE for $15 a pair... so that charge alone was crazy. 15 minute replacement and 400% markup on parts and labor. It’s good to be a dealer.

Well serviced car. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be. The previous owner was obviously someone who was REALLY able to afford a car like that. When you have to think about how much the maintenance of a car costs you clearly can’t afford it. A car with a clean service history is just so rare and valuable.

I have 2005 E55, got it Sept 2018 with 85,000 KM and in Dec 2019 I am at 132,000 KM, I started with Independent repair shop for oil changes which was less costly and more accessible than MB. I ran a specific knowledge gap with the independent when my car developed complex issues with air suspension and leaking fuel sending unit, some bad pulleys eventually had to take it to the dealer. They fixed ever issue and brought the car back MB standards in the process. It was very expensive but nothing like the Beverly Hills dealer's service extravaganza.

My 06 was in very good shape and only major issues i had was passenger front air suspension went out and engine mounts i replaced. I bought it with alot if miles which probably meant prior owner spent tons maintaining it. As long as your on top of it right away when something goes wrong and you dont let it pile up, youll be fine. You cant buy these cars thinking your buying it for 15-25k so they cost the same as a 15-25k to maintain. It still has the costs of a 80k car to maintain no matter how old it gets and you have to factor that in. If you know what to look for before buying a e55 you can avoid most of the headaches right off the bat. Just like any car if it was a abused and not well maintained its gonna cost the next owner.

2009 SL65 came from Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills too and serviced for the first 5 years. No wonder he sold, probably couldn't take it anymore because those prices and frequent trips are way more than the average MB dealer here in Maryland. No need at all for all that brake fluid changing, even with SBC brake-by-wire. But no transmission fluid change, WTF. Independent Certified MB Tech is the only way I roll.

Great information on E55's and servicing. I have watched your previous videos as you seem to have excellent information regarding this particular model. You should have a great car now. I'm from NZ down under, and purchased a silver E55 ex Japan with 40,000km's ( 24,000Mls) approx. Only service so far is an oil change, to which I provided the oil and filter, labour cost by a local Euro mechcanic $200, also I fitted new air filters, and thats all my costs in 3.5years. I only drive the car occasionally, as this supercar will become a future classic and in time will only go up in value, so I don't want to run up the kilometerage.

The one that gets me, having already done it myself, is the supercharger belt replacement. The belt itself costs around $25, and it can literally be changed out in less than 2 minutes by nearly anyone with nothing but a single wrench. Dealership cost? $184.80. They literally charged the guy $160 to do a job that would take an experienced tech around a minute to complete. It would take longer to pull the car into the garage than actually complete the repair. LOL! There is a reason I never go to the dealership.

I once heard MB charges higher hourly rates for AMG vehicles. So they quote the owner of that car an estimate based on what ASRA lists how much time a given job would take. In reality an experienced mechanic will go through a service a lot faster than estimated and for the most part it's labour you're going to pay.

Maybe it needs a computer reset because it now says it's too low to drive but it's far from low. I also noticed a hissing noise from the front passenger wheel well area. Possibly a simple fix but I'm not sure. If there's someone that can possibly help thatd absolutely be appreciated. If it cost too much to fix then I might entertain putting an accuair system on it. Moral of the story, know what your doing and dont mess with something that doesnt need it.

Although difficult, I replaced the starter on my E550 myself for $169. Park Place in Arlington TX wanted $1300.

Backyard Home Studios wow. That is crazy. Good for you. Park place is super expensive. And yet if you go to the Dallas one the lines are four and five cars deep. I only go when absolutely have to. You need a good local small mechanic on your side if you want to own a Mercedes after warranty. I bought one that had been in accident. Got it for 1/4 of the price. Fixed it up and it still cost less than half price. If I had not let my husband deal with the mechanic, I would of saved even more money. He insisted to deal with the mechanic and he ripped us off big time. My husband does not know how to deal with cars and mechanics. Last time he does it ever. But love the car now. It drives like the day it was off the lot. 2016 CLS 550.

MB will Robb you blind if you let them. When my warranty expired few years ago I decided to invest in some good tools then did lots of maintenance myself. Be smart and do your own repairs!

I have almost the exact same mileage as you but on an M112 engine, the 6 cylinder non-superchargerd version of your M113K. Although Mercedes-Benz states that their ATF is "lifetime" and never needs changing that's crazy. I figure every 40,000 miles should do. I have all my ATF fluid, filter, and also a new electrical plug and intend to do a complete fluid change by pumping & replacing 3 liters at a time. *What are your plans regarding the ATF fluid?*

What an awesome find! Sucks for the original customer but sounds like money's not an issue if he's even replacing tires at the dealer. But what a lucky 3rd owner. I'm curious...how much did you pay?

Dealership rip off, i leased ml did everything through dealership. At 30k got curious so decided to go through it my self, as i was thinking of purchasing it at the end. They never changed airfilter nor oil filter, made me wonder if they actually did anything. So i always maintain all my vehicles my self. Porsche last year wanted to charge me $6800 for brake job on the cayenne. It coast me few hours and $700 with shipping.

Here in Germany its worth to do the services at the dealership. I own a C43 AMG with 55k km. All services of this car and my cars before were done by dealership. And on my C43 W205 i got replaced: - Tires (faulty knuckle) and knuckle - Front Seats (early wear) - Rear brakes (early wear) For goodwill of the dealership for free. I had no warrantys. at my dealership 50% costs of these E55 would taken by dealership for goodwill. Its just about in which dealership you are investing that much money.

The problem is that every service done at an MB Dealership costs the same value for a Class C or Class S, and some issues can only be solved at an Authorized Dealer.

Actually, having any luxury cars serviced by dealer or even at independent shop is not cheap, especially the AMGs. My 18+ year-old C32 had cost me well over $10K with 1st 5 years serviced and repaired at local dealers and next 13 years at one local independent shop. If I were to add on all repair cost covered under warranty, it would have exceeded $20K. But the bright side of it is that I had $100K Miles fun, it is my daily commute car from day one and it has taken me to 15+ national parks. During those years, my wife spent less than half maintenance/repair cost on her Lexus at the dealers that is the same age as my AMG but driven twice more miles. But I think I had at least twice more fun in my AMG. I only wish I can DIY on my AMG.

Honestly roughly 2 grand a year for a German super sedan really isn’t that bad Whenever I get one I’ll still do all the maintenance myself, but I genuinely did expect worse
