Clallam County just lost its status as the #1 bellwether county of the country.

There have been 11 presidential elections between 1980-2020. There are 3144 counties in the US. If every county picked randomly, we would expect 3144/(2^11) = one or two counties to have gotten all of them right by chance alone. In one or two more cycles, we’ll have no more undefeated bellwether counties and we can all be released from news pieces trying to read the tea leaves.

Whichever way this election turns out, I just wanted to wish everyone well. I’m over the pond in the U.K. and I hope this election is as smooth as possible for everyone. I doubt it that it will actually be smooth for you all, but I have my fingers crossed that the transfer of power is relatively uneventful this time around. As a side note, I just wanted to also thank those who are involved with the NY Times Podcasts. I’ve learnt a lot about the U.S. elections, since I started listening to shows by, Astead, Michael, Sabrina, and of course, Tracy. Thanks for keeping me up to date with everything to do with this election - It’s been a rollercoaster over here just listening in the U.K., so it must be quite a challenge for those who are actually eligible to vote.
