Only today did I hear about The Coup (I'm an old guy). "The Guillotine," "Fat Cats and Bigga Fish," and this one are my first 3 songs by this group, read the lyrics and watched the videos. This is amazing music! The stories they tell are SO moving and their message is so important. Thanks!

One of my favorite rap songs ever. From Boots rapping, to the amazing production (gotta be one of my favorite beats ever), unreal track. Still slaps as hard now as it did back in the day. One of the most underrated groups ever.

it's called the art of storytellin..a lost hip hop artform and this was one of 90's top examples of how you do it and one of the greatest examples of that art overall. and by far the greatest real hip hop tune of that kind

*All I’m getting from this song is…Jesus getting killed twice: first from the Romans in 30 AC after being betrayed by his 12 disciples especially Judas… and the 2nd time in 1979 as a pimp in Oakland who had it coming to him.*

Ive been banging this song for over a year now. It's hits home with me. As I have two sons who never knew me. But In my defense? both women lied to there son's and lied to me and lied to everybody else. they said another man was the father. It just goes to show you? what ever game your in. legit or on the other side? roll with the realness, keep it 100 and flow with respect.. Im no longer a baller, but im still a few feet of the curb!

@FunkFight1 His speech gets lost in the beats so I didn't follow the story until I read the lyrics. Thats definitely one of the deepest hip hop songs I've ever heard, probably the deepest. Thats right up there with Immortal Techniques Dance with the Devil. Most people won't follow the lyrics and will just see a black dude trusting, and then getting horribly betrayed by a white dude. That being said, it would obviously be unfair to deny Boots the right to tell his story.

Whatever he is I found it sad that a story expressing the realest trust ever seen in a popular music video between a black man and a man indistinguishable from a white/hispanic man ended in betrayal and murder. As I said, if its a true story its not like you can blame boots. I understand the story being told isn't focused on race.
