Bit of trivia. The fake Duke of Anjou was played by Sir Tim Bevan. He with Eric Fellner created Working Title Films which produced both Elizabeth films. Their other credits are Four Weddings and A Funeral, Pride and Prejudice (2005), Bridget Jones movies, Darkest Hour, Baby Driver, Hot Fuzz, Love Actually, About A Boy and many more.

Not here. This portrayal of Anjou was done by Vincent Cassel. He's VERY WELL known for playing off-beat characters, sometimes who are VERY campy.

Elizabeth absolutely had the right idea. And her strategy was smart. She inherited a country that had economic and diplomatic problems. Her "game of suitors" kept everyone on the leash, hoping to become her consort. So no one could pursue war against her. This bought her country time to work on its internal problems.
@nebular55521 күн бұрын
She didn't marry Dudley cuz the shadow cast over the mystery death of Amy Dudley scared her and she couldn't take a chance to marry a man just like her dad to dispose wives brutally like that therefore she prevented herself from being one of the victim wives of Bluebeard. @@kateu.bragado695

German and French personalities are quiet the difference
@kaharma12 ай бұрын
It is highly inaccurate though. It is unfortunatly common for foreigners like the English to make fun of the French in movies... Here, Henri, duke of Anjou is portrayed as a caricature, but historically it is François, duc d'Alençon who came to visit Elisabeth and it was long after what we saw in the movie. François was a serious suitor, he pursuied marriage for political reasons with diplomatic negociations rather than extravagant behavior like we witnessed here... David Starkey or Alison Weir mentionned in their books how François came multiple times for pourparlers to unite the two reals. In the movie, Henri's exentric behavior, used for comedic effect, only serves to illustrate the "cultural" and political incompatibility between Elisabeth and her foreign suitors, that reinforces Elisabeth sense of isolation and strong will to remain independent.

There are different personalities within countries as well. If you went with the stereotypes of these countries it’s not far off.

I think if English law had not given a man absolute ownership over all his wife's property and literal person that Elizabeth probably would have been happy to marry. But for her getting married means she literally handed her entire domain to someone else who was not born to be monarch. I know it was after her passing that the laws were put in that spouses have no right of rule and no right of succession, because of the problems caused during her reign by the old rules.

It's so tiring hearing men talk about women as if we can't be understood. He forced himself on her and expected her to fall to her knees in love with him. Would he have appreciated a strange woman or man for that matter doing the same thing? He pissed her off. Her favourite hadn't done so, yet. Also, his behaviour is like her father's, who was a brute. Henry 8 pulled the same kind of thing on Anne of Cleves, and also got upset when she didn't like it. Not all women want to marry their fathers.
