@ NPA, Paris, TV Show, 03/01/1999. "Zombie" is a protest song by The Cranberries. The incendiary song was written in response to the 1993 IRA bombings of Warrington, Cheshire, where two children, Jonathan Ball (3) and Tim Parry (12) were killed and over 50 people were injured.

- The Cranberries were formed in Ireland in 1990 and have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. Dolores O'Riordan (6 September 1971 - 15 January 2018), was known for her distinctive mezzo soprano voice.

In a official statement released by her publicist Lindsey Holmes, 19 Jan 2018, it read: "Whilst the primary purpose of Dolores’s trip to London last Sunday evening, January 14, was for a studio mixing session on Monday and Tuesday with Martin “Youth” Glover on a recently recorded D.A.R.K. album, it has emerged that while in London she was also due to meet with The Cranberries record label, BMG to discuss plans for the release of a new Cranberries studio album that she had been working on with the band in recent months."
At 1.12am, at the London Hilton on Park Lane, London, Dolores left two voicemail messages for Dan Waite, her label executive. In her messages, O’Riordan talked lovingly about her kids, expressed her thrill at the Eminem sample and sang a snippet of the Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” (which Youth had produced). The late Cranberries star sounding excited and full of enthusiasm, and she offered to sing on a cover of her song Zombie by a metal band. She phoned her mother at around 3am. The mother-of-three was found unresponsive in the bathroom and confirmed dead at 9.16am on Monday, January 15. Dolores O’Riordan had previously discussed being sexually abused from the age of 8 to 12 by a family friend and how she suffered from anorexia.

Ms O’Riordan’s heartbroken mother Eileen and her six siblings accompanied her dark wooden coffin into St Joseph’s Church, which was decorated with white roses and photographs of the deeply religious star performing on stage. Mourners from all over the world also gathered to pay their respects. Fans said O’Riordan who was laid out in an open coffin wearing black and holding a set of pearl rosary beads looked “at peace” [independent.ie]
A floral tribute left next to the singer's coffin, from her Cranberries bandmates - brothers Noel and Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler - read: “The song has ended, but the memories linger on.” [thesun.ie]
Dolores, said Canon McNamara, had a voice of gold. She had a heart of gold too. He told how it was “impossible” to say how many people Dolores “rescued from darkness and sadness in their lives”. [irishtimes.com]

J'ai perdu un ami là-bas en Irlande du Nord. d'origine écossaise, il était tout jeune. je l'ai connu, à Kirkcaldy. C'etait la mouise, une ville quasiment sinistrée, et ses habitants devaient trouver des ressources pour survivre. il était encore civil quand je l'ai connu, mais venait juste de s'engager dans l'armée britannique. C'était son choix.Envoyé en Ulster, Il y a perdu la vie, tué sous l'uniforme britannique. "Zombee" est une chanson qui parle de cette guerre, de son inutilité, de sa stupidité. RIP à lui
