I still remember this day, we were on our way to Warrington but my dad decided to go somewhere else literally five minutes before we got there, my sister and I used to sit outside the shop where the bomb went off while our parents went in the shop (it was a different time back then), we will never forget this day. Thank you for this reaction

My cousin lived in Warrington in the 80s and 90s. It was bad. I tried to get him to come to Cork but he was not giving up the cause. Not thru violence though. He saw, as I did, it would never accomplish the goal of getting rid of the Limeys. We offered unification and they refused because they didn't want religious freedom..anti Catholic basically. They still sukk

I'm so glad to see people revisiting this at such an important time. The keening echoes the ache we all have for so much suffering in the world at the moment that there are no words for. Sparing the lives of innocent people, especially children, should be the whole world's main agenda.

It is unfortunate but in most of today's wars, not only are children collateral damage, there is absolutely no attempt to discriminate between military and civilian targets.

Sadly, many of those involved in conflicts today are willing to place innocent children and elderly in harms way to protect themselves. They know what they are doing and are more than willing to do it to gain sympathy after the inevitable happens. It is a sad situation all around and should be pointed out when it is an obvious exploitation of innocent life to protect combatants.

One innocent child's life is too many. I agree and I appreciate the fire of your mother's heart speaking up, Rosalie. I cried with you... I know too well the sound of my daughter's cry, wailing for me when she discovered her son was not breathing the next morning. So many are lost every day. So many are suffering every day. It's too much. We, all of us, need to ask ourselves, what are we doing?! What are supporting? What do we stand for?! What do we want for our children/grandchildren??? Much love and respect, dear lady... 🌹♥🌹

I have heard the song before but not by the originally group. This was a more soulful version. The melody is haunting as are the words. As you point out, it's not just about this incident and the loss of the two children. It's much broader and more relevant today than ever. From the wars in the Middle East to the Russian Ukraine war, to the mass shootings in the United States, the loss of life of the children is especially tragic because they have not yet had a chance to fully live. So much damage and death is justified by the perpetrators, weather because of an ideology, or mental illness and the need for revenge. We need to see humanity as one and create a kinder and more gentle world where are the people live in peace and children can play. I addressed some of the same issues with my songs "No Assault Weapons" and "Peace." I feel called to do my part to spread messages of peace and love.

The two children who died from the IRA bombing was the straw that broke the camel's back. After those two children's deaths, The Cranberries released the song Zombie it was at the height of the tensions aimed at the IRA from within Ireland for the IRA to resolve their ongoing conflict with the British government. Weeks after Zombie was released a ceasefire was declared by the IRA. Many people have brought into question whether or not the The Cranberries song Zombie was a factor in the IRA decision to hold a ceasefire.

Greetings from Scotland! Stunning (literally) musically and visually! I was born in 1954, and all my life I have gone through one conflict after another and I am still going through them. I cried along with you as I listened to this and I cry every single time I listen to it, it NEVER gets easier to see and hear this video. As you said, when a parent hears that their child has been taken from this life that sound is one that stays in your head. I have been in this position and I would never wish such a totally destroying event on anyone. A parent should never have to say farewell forever to their child, it is wrong, very wrong. If I could take his place I would do so in a heartbeat, but that will be possible. It doesn't just affect you, it affects every member of your family to a greater or lesser extent, and it is irreversible. R.I.P. Lee, R.I.P. Dolores, both of you left a legacy that will never be forgotten. Sorry for the speech but I needed to say it.

I am from Warrington and was trapped between the 2 bombs set in the town center !! There was a casualty at the 1st bombing as they shot police when trying too escape, but the 2 men were caught ! The second attack happened because the courts would not free the 2 men caught for the first bomb, and so they day before mothers day the next 2 bombs went off ! Both of which had been placed in cast iron bins and offset so that everyone running from the first, ran straight into the second.. I was 14 at the time !Just as an edit, we could not leave as we had to protect Northern Ireland who were being persecuted because of their religious beliefs !!

I think when she sings "it's not me, it's not my family" she's saying as an Irish person she's not responsible nor supports acts done in the name of Ireland, it's her distancing herself from such acts. As you can imagine the pointless killing of 2 innocent small boys would have generated a lot of antipathy in Britain towards anybody with an Irish accent at the time.

a lot of comments but someone may have already said this. The two bombs on the same day was a pattern the IRA repeated. They'd hide two of them, set off one, then wait for first responders to arrive and gather, and set of the other for maximum carnage. That is rumored to be why she says 'and their bombs and their bombs', because there were often two bombs, but they couldn't not respond. The heroes, are those first responders who went in anyway, knowing there'd be another bomb soon.

@16:24 - I am a bit of military historian and your comment about "The Old Man's War" is a very real thing. Tactically, every war is fought using the last war's tactics and the victor of said war is the first one to realize the 'old man' was wrong and adapts. Still, as you say, the victims are the children. The innocents who had ZERO INTEREST in the war that was visited upon them. THOSE people are ageless. They have been the source of song and legend since the initial Roman Invasions of Gaul and prior to that in ancient times.

It should be noted that "Zombie" is played at major sporting events in Ireland as an anthem. The horrible history of England"s imperialism still runs deep but so does the days of "troubles" where so many innocent lives were lost. Delores O'Riordan was a national treasure. She is missed. Interestingly she mentioned 1916 the year of the Easter uprising. Also the year of WW1 and the bloodiest battles in the war but the year of Dadaism. An artistic protest against the insanity of war. I absolutely applaud your comments on, not just the song, but, especially about how violence is a learned behavior. It is totally insane. So much suffering at the hands of so few. The artists are our our guide posts. More should Stop, Look, & Listen as thoughtfully as you have here. Brilliant! Thank you!! 👏👏🙏❣ P.S. As a followup you might dive into one of the most misinterpreted songs of the 20th century....."Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. It's quite relevant to this topic. The 1994 live "Pulse" version. Intense.! Peace always! 🕊

The Troubles has a long history, the modern Troubles was 1968 to 1998 when The Good Friday Agreement brought a kind of peace, its an agreement to disagree, but communitires are still divided by 'Peace' Walls' and roads closed at night but the people of N. Ireland are wonderful people. The failure is the failure of successive Goverments in the 1960's to bring equality to all communities, one man one vote, equal opportunities for jobs, and no discrimination based on what Religion you are, watch a series called 'One Upon a Time in Northern Ireland' by the BBC that will clarify an awful lot. In some ways the war never ends, approximately 3600 people died in The Troubles, between 1998 and now approximately 3600 people have died in Northern Ireland....by suicide, Ceasefire babies they are called. Inspired though this song was by a singular event BOTH sides killed, bombed and did unspeakable things to each other and that includes some elements of the British Army to an extent where years later a British PM apologised for Bloody Sunday. This songs a cry from the heart for those who take sides to see the result of their beliefs in action and to find another way, but the original war is the one of inequality and people living under a yoke of suppression who finally can take no more and rebel. Peace.

To one side it , is just another form of suppresion/ violence. I haven't seen Bluemel's BBC documentary but did read some reviews. This - written by a protestant woman married to a Catholic man - struck me: "Here is a Protestant man, John, who was told as a boy that his mother had died in a car crash, only to find out later that she was alive, driven out of the community because (unbeknown to him) she was a Catholic. His story is unfathomable...." "But in Bluemel’s hands, sectarianism is made real. It is, we see, a kind of madness: a disease of the imagination, which thrives on pulpit-talk and isolation. When John discovered his mother was alive, his shame and horror at her Catholicism (“witchcraft!”) wrestled his desire to see her almost to the ground. There is something corporeal about sectarianism. The body politic breaks - it splits clean in two - at which point, individual flesh and blood finds itself suddenly on a front line. Bodies may be destroyed, butchered like meat, or they may be used as a weapon. It is a state from which, I think, recovery may not be entirely possible."

@17:30 - the Easter Bombings in April 1916 was supposed to kickoff a larger Irish Rebellion against British Rule but then WW1 kicked off and I guess the Rebellion was put on hold because the Kaiser was the greater threat.

I think you will find that WW1 was well under way before the Easter Rising of 1916.

I grew up during the 60s and then used to see Sid Vicious walking around Union Square. I've deep dived into a lot of genres. I love the "27+" Club and Zombie is the Best song of the 20th Century. It's a tearjerker and there's none like it. It's the only one. It has nothing to do with the lyrics, nobody knows what the lyrics are. But she does cry when she sings the lyric, "cry". I only heard that cry once before; I was living in Brooklyn, it was late at night, and I heard what sounded like a tin can being dented and dented, over and over in the direction of the Williamsburg Bridge. It was a car going over the bridge, way too fast. A man screamed out and it slowly faded away. And the cries were the same. Perhaps, you should learn more about history? You didn't mention, Patriot Terrorists during the American Revolution against loyalists. The Loyalists were equally horrific (see: The Scars of Independence by Holgar Hook, 2017) America is funding all these terrorist brigades. What to do? (hidden by false Bourgeois Feminists) Herstory lesson here: October 5, 1789 - The Women's (hangry) March on Versailles, the real date of the Defacto transfer of power and of the French Revolution. March 8, 1917 - All women hangry mobs on International Women's Day overthrew the Tzar and created a republic. What we must do. All men need to avoid going to demonstrations. Men need only to fund women's protests, but should avoid going themselves.

You should check out Bambie Thug. They remind me of dolores and sinead o Connor when they speak in interviews. An absolute mighty force, so strong and powerful. They know who they are and what they believe in, and its just so inspiring. Also, an amazing artist, kills it in every genre they touch

I'm atheist. I'm german. 1st thing to come to my mind was: "peer groups". They can be helpful and supporting. Some can also be toxic. Dividing christians and muslims from each other? This song describes, how christians fight each other. And muslims are doing the same, right now. "Vor der eigenen Haustür kehren?". (Sorry: this might come out as a mixture of german and english.) Some are fighting the other spectrum of the same religion more fiercly than what they call the opposite religion. What is it good for? Without ever talking about it beforehand, my wife (even after our marrigage) told me that she would define herself a wiccan. And I just felt "at home" with her: "a peaceful soul!". (I seem to attract peaceful souls. And it makes me feel humble. A long story. How some autistic folks felt comfortable around me, while not around others. Some cats and dogs (not every cat and dog). They used to call me Jesus, everywhere I came. (Reminder: I'm athesist!) But it kinda shaped me, maybe. I try to be kind, foremost. If folks are kind: treat 'em as friends. If folks are haters: fight 'em before they get followers. Love and peace should win!

"You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins" He and his girfriend - pictured on that iconic album cover - were both being monitored by the FBI. The Zombie video was on the Uk government's restricted list during the Iraq war, BBC, ITV, and MTV Europe didn't play it. They can't have anti-war sentiments when they're out a-killing.

Obviously, the Irish/Anglo troubles have been going on for centuries. James Cagney did a movie about the IRA called "Shake Hands with the Devil" over 60 years ago.

I think you picked a cut/edited version, the whole bridge and heavy instrumental part is missing, the best part that really pulls out the emotion and energy of the song.

I think I am exceptional in that when I hear of these bombings, shootings or just an accident my mind goes to the injured, some of whom will have catastrophic lifelong injuries and not so much the dead. Absolutely in this case they were children and in every other case they have families and loved ones affected by the loss. But the injured have a life of physical and psychological trauma to contend with
