I actually come from one of the families that was involved in the bombing in Warrington England. The song was written for the two young boys who lost their lives to the IRA bombing on the weekend of Mothers Day. And to the other many victims who were badly injured. WHEN SHE SAYS What's in your head Zombie she means that the bombers were acting like zombies and not thinking about the consiquences of their actions. When she says Anolther mother's broken heart is slowly taking over. She referes to how everry death through war leaves some mother heartbroken. And when she says. Let them see it's not me it's not my family. She meant that let the victims see that not everyone in northern Ireland was the same or agreed with the actions of the IRS

It's not enthusiasm you see in the drummer, but anger and frustration over senseless killing of innocents in all the bloody history of the conflict. It is one of the most powerful play I've ever seen. You know the feeling when every fiber in your body shouts at you to smash the next wall for all the injustice, brutality and all other negative things going on around you? When you just want to scream from the top of your lungs to get rid of that anger that built up inside? The drummer channels it all into his play, he beats the hell out of his kit. More impressive of how well it is performed imo.

Dolores O'Riordan passed away about 4 years ago. Her music was a big part of my late teens and early twenties. Contrary to the rumours she didnt commit suicide but she seemed to have been suffering from depression at the time. Im fairly sure she wasnt aware how loved she was in many parts of the world.

Saying this song is more like a crying out, is perfect. That's exactly what it is, a crying of pain, frustration, anger and sadness. It's a testament to the emotion that was put into making and performing this song that even if you don't know the backstory to it, you still feel it in the music and the lyrics, then mixed with the video, it just pulls on the heartstrings like no other.

It's been almost 30 years and this song is still played on the national tv and radio in the Netherlands on dec 31st as part of the list of greatest songs of all time. It is a list that is voted on by listeners every year and literally every song ever recorded competes. I don't think I've ever heard a song that so perfectly says what needed to be said at that time.

Short excerpt from Wikipedia about this song: Zombie is considered a protest song against the Northern Ireland conflict. Dolores O'Riordan wrote the lyrics to the song during the band's 1993 tour of England in memory of two children (Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry) who were killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington on March 20, 1993. Essential passages refer to the Easter Rising of 1916 and its traumatic consequences. I've heard the song 1000 times, but to this day it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.

The story of what inspired this song it's even more impacting. For mothers day two boys went out and bought their mother a card which they decided to mail as a surprise as they did the mailbox exploded from a mail bomb killing the boys. Delores being a mother wrote this song hoping no mother would have to experience this again. It was so impacting that a cease fire was agreed to days after the songs release.

The bombs were in rubbish bins on one of the main shopping streets. Timed to go off separately as crowed rushed away from the 1st explosion, some of them towards another bin containing a second bomb. It was the day before mother's day in Warrington where like me, lots of kids were in town centre buying cards and gifts. From memory one of the boys was sat on top of the bin. The older boy who was killed, Tim, was a year or so below me in high school and his older brother my year. It was a terrifying experience just being there as a kid that day. To this day I never forget the terror and panic. Thinking back I remember hearing at the time it was a direct response to a 'failed' gas works bombing in Warrington. Some of the IRA involved were caught and this was in part their retaliation.

Important to note the b&w shots are real soldiers and people not actors in Belfast. Same if you see invisible sun by the police. She wrote the story where two boys died in a terrorist bom explosion in North Engeland. Two boys on their way to buy a mothersday card for their mother died in the bom blast that was hidden in a car. A 3 yr and I think 12 year old. Then their was a case in Ireland in 1916 when 1 young boy died instantly and another boy days later in hospital, the grieve of the mothers. It was a war between warfactions in Ireland. The singer Dolores wrote and sang the song. She performs this with her group The Cranberries. Dolores died in 2018 by drowning.

I will probably mess up the facts but I believe its based on the death of a couple children during a bombing by or against the I.R.A. in England. There is much more to her lyrics though. She's kind of recounting all the pain & brutality visited on innocent people all throughout the fighting in Northern Ireland. Which, at that point, had been going on since Ireland broke away from the U.K. in the early 1900's

I was 100 yards away in a local hall when the two bombs went off first bin was blown up driving the crowd towards the second bomb. I had to be escorted past the scene by the police to get out of the area - the blood was still wet. Something you never forget. Thankfully it led to the Peace Talks. 30 yrs of mindless violence and sectarian bigotry

I CANNOT believe that you've never heard this song that is now 28 years old! As a Genexer, The Cranberries were one of THE BEST Alternative bands EVER! In January 2018, Dolores O'Riordan who was from Ireland, died of an accidental bathtub drowning. I grew up maybe 40 minutes away from Warrington, where the bombing the song refers to happened. I was 7 at the time, and I still remember hearing about it on the news. A lot of my early childhood involved overhearing reports about the IRA in the news, and apparently it all stuck with me so firmly that the first time I heard this song earlier this year (no idea how I missed it until then) it immediately clicked for me what it must have been about. It really is such a powerful and moving protest & tribute, too

Dolores O'Riordan wrote Zombie in memory of Johnathan Ball age 3 and Tim Parry age 12, who were killed on the way to buy Mother's Day cards for their mothers, and of the 54 others who were injured in the 1993 IRA bombings in Warrington, England. I believe she was costumed in such a way and sang with such a wailing voice to represent the sound of their two families bain sidhe (banshee) spirits wailing in grief for their dead children... Bear in mind that she is singing in memory of the children of the "other side" (British) whilst proclaiming to the IRA that her family was not a part of the IRA's terrorism or in agreement with it "but you see it's not me. It's not my family in your head." This song is a rejection of violence and murder for the solving of political problems. WHAT'S IN YOUR HEAD???😭 When Tim’s parents Colin and Wendy Parry visited Ireland soon after the bombing as part of a BBC's Panorama program, the Irish people took to the streets of Dublin to follow them, hug them and tell them "what happened to your son Tim and the young boy Jonathan was not in my name!"

The reason you are so emotional for this song is because it is a tragedy. It reflects what has happened for many thousands of years now, where people fight over stupid things, sending their children to war over it. We'd be able to achieve so much MORE if we gave up the pettiness that exists over stupid reasons. It IS a beautiful and sad song at the same time. One day all people will awaken to this and express more love and amazement over the beauty of diversity! I make this my mission.

The fight was stupid for some reasons but not stupid for others. I don't blame Ireland for wanting to break away. They were nothing but abused by the UK while they were in, and they didn't exactly have a say about being in. I actually hope Northern Ireland breaks away one day and rejoins the rest of the island peacefully, but I want them to sort out their issues first, Ireland has been a political and social mess since Padraig. (I said it. I meant it. I will not take it back.) The religious stuff was stupid, yes. Christian is Christian, the different sects need to get over themselves and try harder to find common ground. You can't MAKE anybody go to heaven or hell, and no one really knows which version is absolutely correct 'til after death anyway, so why come to blows about it. (I'm agnostic, but still.)

If there was ever a feminist voice this is it, flaunt your caring that makes you what amazing creature you are. Beautiful and sad. The most important protest song against violence in modern times. And everyone just care more and we will be ok.

If anyone complains about the English colonizing Africa, their first colony was Ireland. Guerilla warfare from 1916 to, what 1992. Like most wars, no one is the "good" guy as all sides claim to be.
