Unless you were inside TIAA Bank Field during week 1 of the 2019 NFL season between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars, you truly have no idea what happened. And the reason for that? CBS did not show the final 7 1/2 minutes of the contest, partly because of something out of their control, and partly because of something entirely in their control. something similar happened during the 2007 Jags/Saints game. Jags were getting blown out and the TV inadvertently cut to the Bill/Bengals game. The one where Chad Johnson got hurt and had to be stretchered off the field so there was basically no action for almost 20 minutes and everyone was confused about what was going on. Fred was about to go over 10K yards, but fortunately, Jack Del Rio pulled him since the game was out of control so he went over 10K the next week at teh Titans. However, no one at the time during the Saints game had any idea, because they cut the game off so early.

I remember when this happened. I was eating at Beef 'O' Brady's when this happened and when I couldn't see the game there, I figured something was up. CBS didn't communicate this situation to its viewers properly.

The good bad game on cbs and the crazy cbs broadcast controversy of nfl season the and chiefs play each 2019 the main game was technically titans and vs brown the and jaguars chiefs this Sunday and I swear to God if the power goes out it never fun to not watch the ending of a game no matter whether you on the winning side or the losing side you just know what going happen and I don't turn off jaguars game for that reason and this whole situation is 2023 and was just a disaster in movie than one when used you were bracing the absolutely sweltering heat and watched this it up again you were completely unble to witness how the end of this game unfolded sure you have play logs and play by play from ESPN that how I follow the final seven minutes of this one but it obviously not the same your just imagining what happened and how it happened it doesn't feel real this whole game from the nick foles injury some miles jack getting disqualified to Garner minshu coming out of nowhere after an awful preseason to do this so this entire debacle with a fuse box in cbs was just a bizarre way kick off the season because on this stage 2019 the only thing more inefficient than the jaguars defense was the fuse box in the stadium giving power to the cbs truck🎉

This is very similar to what happened in 2006 in both Australia & Ireland with the International Rules Series between the two countries. For those wondering what International Rules are, it is basically a combination of Australian Rules Football & Gaelic football using rules & elements from both sports. This is treated as an all-star game for the AFL & the All-Ireland Football League & from 1998 til 2006, there was nothing that happened in the matches that contradicted that. However in the 2006 edition, all hell broke loose very early on in the 2nd game of the series as there were multiple incidents of rough play (especially tackles that would be considered targeting in American football), a player intentionally stomping on another's face with metal cleats, multiple incidents involving spitting/biting & to top it all off a bench clearing brawl that even involved Irish fans throwing beer bottles onto the field in an attempt to hit the Australian players. Because of all this violence, the networks that were showing the series (RTE in Ireland & Network Ten in Australia) decided to end coverage with about 7 minutes left because they felt it was a bad example for kids to see & the damage it would do to both sports in terms of popularity. Even without the violence, the 2nd match was an absolute blowout anyway with Australia ahead 69-31 with Ireland having no chance of coming back. Ireland refused to continue the series heading into 2007 unless the Australians agreed to a code of conduct which happened & the series has been on & off since then (though the last one was played in 2014).

Not sure if you already knew, but at about 14:44 there is a very short audio glitch. It takes nothing away from the video, but I thought you should know. That aside, I actually was watching that game when it switched. I had no idea that was why the game changed and couldn't go back. I just thought CBS flubbed the broadcast. But I lived in CA at the time so I wasn't really super invested other than just watching because football.

It's not the same thing, but I went to the Texans-Bills game in person that lost the broadcast crew in person and they had to get to the Pre-game commentators to fill in. No one at the stadium knew about it, of course, so it didn't affect the viewing experience.

Honestly my thought would be if I were the producer and had to think on my feet because its a playoff? See if I can pull in the Westwood One audio feed because the radio press box might still have power. And then tell people the broadcast truck lost power and that for the rest of the game there will be audio only from the radio feed. That might break some copyright shit, but id imagine especially for a playoff its better to get something to the fans and work the consequences out later. though I also admit if I were planning logistics for a playoff game I would seriously consider renting a generator truck, there is not that many playoff games going on for a network compared to main season games. The overall value of a playoff game is such that its probably worth the cost of the extra truck just in case. Even if you can only get a small handful of cameras with the backup power, something is better than nothing.

Reminds me a bit of last night's USF-Alabama game. There was an hour-long weather delay, and when the game resumed, ESPN wasn't allowed to return their camera personnel immediately, and several drives were shot like high school games, with wide angles.

Apparently there camera crew for that game had to take cover then the lightning delay happened and for whatever reason didn't get them back after halftime.
