Ooh, don’t get me started on the joys of menopause. But here’s my stance: I had a certain body at age 2, a different body at age 22, and yet a different body at age 42. So I’m not surprised that I’m not the same at 62. That’s how it works.

As a teen I had a doctor called me overweight because of my BMI and my mom lost her mind. I’m 6 feet tall with hips and shoulders and real thighs. The doctor said I needed to lose 15 pounds. My mom was all, “Where? You point out where that 15 pounds is.” I still love her for that. BTW who’s see Ilona Maher? She’s a gorgeous rugby player whose USA team just won a bronze medal. She has a BMI of 29.3 and rocks it like it’s hot, telling everyone to “Look me straight in the shoulders and say it again!” I wish I had her as a role model growing up because she’s great. What annoys me the most about the whole FUPA discussion (apart from the name because it's just a horrible fucking name for a normal body part) is that most people don't even know what or where the FUPA would be. It's not your lower belly, babe, it's your pubic mound. your MONS PUBIS. It generally consists of fatty tissue - some gals have more, some have less. Thank you for the comment about gender identity towards the end. It might seem like a small thing, but as a nonbinary person who’s into fitness, it discourages me to see how many folks in the fitness community are Really Fucking Weird about people like me. I really appreciate you making this an inclusive space!

i feel like the use of "a petite" also is infantilizing to short women, like it's some special class of person that has to do everything different because you're so small oh no. i hate that but that might just be me

When you said "I want to get stronger, and have study bones." This is what I want. But I don't know how to ask a professional about this, without it turning into a discussion about weight loss.

Tell them you’re interested in strength training and come with a few skills you’d like to learn! (Deadlifts, chest pressing, kettlebell swings, etc)

BMI can also fail as a health metric in the opposite direction -- I had a BMI of 22, while my DXA scan showed >35% body fat because I had very little muscle. (I'm working on it, it's going great!)

I need more people to share the one about all the nutrition nonsense!!! It's like, I guess I'll just eat air!! Oh wait, oxygen is toxic and flammable in higher concentrations so it must be bad for me. Darn.

it's insane how many "rules" contradict each other
@rachelallen57794 ай бұрын
All the contradicting information and focus on trying to eat some mystical perfect diet seems like a great way to develop orthorexia. I have to catch myself sometimes to just allow myself to eat in moderation and tune out messaging about how "bad" different foods are, or I start to get anxious.
@christinelamb11674 ай бұрын
That was truly the best clip out of all of them! It seems that no matter what you eat nowadays, there's something "toxic" and "bad" about it. Society is trying it's best to make us terrified of anything and everything.
