I grew up in an age where the only time I would get to see any game, let alone my own team, was in the FA Cup, other than that, I had to stay up till past 10pm to watch any highlights. If BBC, ITV and the Football League had treated the sports fans decently, then there wouldn't have been a sport to steal away from them. I'm glad Sky got the broadcast rights, because even though it was only available behind a paywall.... at least it was bloody available.

Great video. I think the answer for fans that are being priced out is lower league football. The old spirit of football is still there it's just away from the top level corporate nonsense. Get down to your local non-league club!

It won't change. It'll only get worse. I've had a prediction for ages, that the PL will not be a 'top six' any more. It'll be a top ten, or even more. Clubs coming up, will find it even more of a struggle then it already is, cause the money spent on the teams already there, which would be carried by so many wealthy owners, would be too much for teams worse off to handle. Money will forever be the driving force of the game, and while yes, it'll help give players of unexpected nations, a chance to shine and be more well looked after. But the experience being talked about back then, is long gone.

@@jackchat I get that point, but I also think having more money in the sport means that more money can be distributed to everyone, and can potentially reduce the amount of clubs going bust or entering liquidation. I also think any potential buyers of clubs should be regulated and checked to make sure they're fit to run the club

The thing is. If you dont like big football for these reasons. Then there are still 9 other tiers of football in this country. Non league day every year has free entry for any premier league of football league season ticket holder. And even if youre not its still no more than £10. Also there might be more money. But olympiacos became the first greek club to win a european trophy and that was only last year. Also last year had aston villa, bologna, girona and stuttgart all reach the champions league. And the magic of the cup is still around. Maidstone beat ipswich recently. Coventry were robbed from a place in the final. And my team middlesbrough had back to back wins against man united and spurs a few seasons ago

You have to bear in mind the "Dark Age" that was football coverage in the 70's & 80's, where you could watch the FA Cup Final..... and that was pretty much it for televised football, unless it was a World Cup year.

The fact you keep calling it a 'football game' in a middle class accent is a good indicator. It's a football match. You seem a good lad, though. Anyway, I lost interest in football around 2007. What made it great had effectively died by then. The death knell was when Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United. The refereering, rules arbitration and overall style of play changed to accomodate him and others like him. Highlight reel fans who want to see stepovers instead of a tough slog of a match that goes down to the bone etc. There's a lot more to it but I'm just ranting.
