We were lucky enough to have a major Hopper show at our S.F. MOMA some time ago. That included his early drawings and paintings he did in Europe. As I recall, he was a student of the remarkable Martin Dean, who's romantic city work is a favorite of mine. Viewing time? Plenty, as long as my low back could handle standing still... Now where have I been? Nice to check in. You look nice. ..

This is extremely interesting!! It would also be interesting if we had the same study done before social media. Because I’ve read that the average time a person engages a tweet is only a few seconds. There is a lot of research how our attention span and our ability to focus is being reduced due to technology. I don’t want to be a victim of this. I live in NYC. We obviously have a lot of art museums. One has to make strategic decisions on what art they want to view and contemplate on otherwise after an hour you can get overwhelmed. Sensory overload. It’s like going to a two day music festival with music from morning to night. It’s too much. All you need is one good performance to inspire you

So the first study was done in 2001- which is before the iPhone and smart phones and Facebook started in 2004... so it was done before social media! The second study I refer to I don't have a date for it- but it said much of the time people were taking selfies with the art- so that is clearly after social media. I agree with sensory overload at museums! Every time I go to NYC I pick one new museum to really delve into. Sensory overload is real!

It's the same thing when I have bought and sold my homes. My real estate agent told me that you want somebody to walk into a room and linger. If they walk in and walk out quickly, they're not likely to buy your home. They're not feeling themselves as a part of it.

That makes sense! A good rule of thumb for artists to keep in mind too!
