this already happened with Vako Marchilashvili .44 2x2 single, this solution was quite hard to execute and he got it in a almost world record time, for example, this same exact scramble was generated at a competition last year, (solution being U R U R' U) and the fastest time on it was a .55, next being a .66 DNF, Not to say that this isint possible (it definetly is) but there is a high chance that he just told everyone to not upload the solve because he had a sketchy start/stop etc... not to mention this also happened with yihengs old .93 world record average original 5th solve (1.37). that video has STILL not released to the public yet. and there is no way nobody just happened to not record the solve, something clearly happened at the competition, and the people who have the video arent giving it up.

There's an additional precedent with sliding timer starts specifically; Ellery Dillon did the same thing in 2022 on a 0.53 single and 1.5 official average. If you frame counted the solves, they were all around 0.2 slower, and it was clear from looking at the video that he was using sliding starts. When I emailed WRC about this, they reached the same conclusion; if it can't be caught in real time, it would stand. This problem has always existed, and this WR is finally making everyone aware of it.
@brothdisiwsnsotwwokrs5 ай бұрын
the only thing is that a 1.5 average is not near the WR, and the .53 time he got on that 4 mover (his pr single) is quite beatable without using the sliding technique, (0.3x DS is quite easy to get without sliding). the obvious problem here is the fact that the first solve and others in yihengs .78 average are almost humanly impossible with correct starts and stops. top 2x2ers only able to achieve around mid .8 on solve #1 with near perfect execution, but legit stops and starts.

How about WIDENING the buttons on the timer. Yes I know this will restart the world records again but if that can eliminate questionable stop timer issues with hand contact with the cube while pressing the timer at the same time then that's one suggestion that might solve that. Plus having the timer so wide that a new "sweeping" technique would be implemented to start the timer while having to reach for the cube and make a clear distinction that you haven't touched the cube at the same time as the timer should help clear up this issue. But that's just my perspective.

So for the timer start problem, you kind of need to go back a couple of frames to see the actual timer start, since the thing is that the display of the timer has an around .2 lag, so when HIS timer starts, the display only starts after .2 seconds. And the only reason this is suspicious is because of the perspective the spectators are videoing, which does not allow for a good view of the hands on the timer. This issue is because that, frankly speaking, the wca people just don't want chinese cubers dominating stuff like 2x2. If timer starts and stops will be framecounted and scrutinized, just use framecounting for timing. even though his timer starts are not AS good, they are still allowed by the wca. If the wca DQs this world record, imagine the uproar it will cause... Edit: now chinese cubers will just use 144p vids for evidence that they got the record... so sad...
