It quickly became a favourite series of mine; that journey of making your own party from scratch is so rare in modern games, but so many older ones are also burdened by so much jank and dated design that playing them is suffering. Plus the emphasis on nature-inspired world and monster design, with a lower-magic design, gives them such a unique character, too.

Crystahl was wondering about Persona Q's name origin, but I forgot to comment on about it... so here we are! Persona Q's name came from the japanese name for Etrian Odyssey, Sekaiju no Meikyuu (literal translation: World Tree's Labyrinth) Kyuu → Q :)

The Persona Q games were made by the same development team behind Etrian Odyssey 4, and they even share mechanics like map-making and F.O.Es (same abbreviation, different in-game meanings). Hell yeah crystal is playing another one of my favorite games! I’m glad to see etrian Odyssee getting more love. I found these games through the 3ds eshop before it closed(5 is the best) and the q games, you dont know how happy i was when they announced the remakes. Edit: I never played eo1 or finished the games I own so the lore drop really surprised me(especially sence I started writing a post apocalyptic story with my EO characters lol).

I agree with 5 being the best, and I place Untold 1 second. 5's race addition was neat, and it gave me my two favorite classes in the series (Warlock and Necromancer). While its second dungeon was a relative drag, the third was easily the most interesting in looks and story. That calm metal theme made me stop playing and just listen to it for a bit.

The world tree is a genetically modified tree, that I guess stopped pollution because it’s a giant tree which means more oxygen. I’m just gonna assume there are more of them since there are multiple games. I guess I would make all the other animals and monsters, and some people modified lifeforms.

My personal favourite Etrian Odyssey game by a mile is definitely the second one, as I felt it hit the best balance of difficulty and build complexity. That game absorbed my whole life for a summer back in the day, absolute banger. Sad we missed out on that one, but glad she enjoyed the other two!

Check out some of the Super Arrange albums and the Untold remake soundtracks now that you've played through with the original FM chip songs! The Etrian series in particular has a famously huge library of beautiful remixes and reorchestrations by both fans and Yuzo Koshiro (the original composer).

​@@manleyfgc7981These 3 games were originally not made with difficulty options and expert is just said default. If Normal has similar multipliers to the newer games (x0.9ish damage received, x1.1ish dealt?) , then it can make the experience more comfortable if you don't wanna stress about it but keep some risk intact. Picnic is, however, exactly as the name says. Sometimes people switch difficulties exclusively to make grinding faster, which is a bit of a different usage. Play how you like tbh.

In EO1 they have similar VIT to a Dark Hunter, who is ofc a frontliner, only their HP is behind somewhat. Funnily enough, despite having lower base HP the Surv gets a bigger HP bonus from the corresponding skill than the DH, making them even tankier after investment!

Meaning the game takes place in the 3000s where humanity nearly is wiped out by some war or World War III, then giant trees grow out of the ground, and I guess humanity survived on, and the tribes people are probably mutated humans. They have all mutated because of radiation. This is theory about post apocalyptic game.

yeah, these games are brutal as hell i've only played the untold games, and boy howdy is untold 2 incredible. i really wish they made an untold version for all of the games, because i would play/get them in a heart beat if you ever consider playing etrian 2, i strongly suggest playing untold the fafnir knight and doing the story mode of that game (the untold games give you a set of 5 characters and the story revolves around them/the main plot of the game)

While they can get dark and dreary, most dungeons in Etrian Odyssey games are very vegetative. In basically all the games the main dungeon is a giant tree after all

@@kashkat90s44 It's largely considered the weakest entry in the series, more of a glorified expansion pack to EO1 than a true sequel. The devs also took all the EO1 feedback they got the wrong way and designed a game where every single event screws you over, FOEs do not award XP when killed, and virtually all the bar Quests are "look it up or wander aimlessly for hours" level of nonsense, while still only rewarding you with consumables (no XP). Basically, the whole game hates you, the the War Magus is a joke, TP recovery items are stupidly rare while Skill TP costs are way higher than in EO1, FOEs pop out of literally nowhere to kill you mid-fight, and the Bosses are sadistic nightmares (Scylla, anyone?)
