VIDEO NOTE: Kelly McCormick is not Ryan Goslings wife. I had an awkward line in this I'm now realizing which made it sound like that's what I was saying. The line was supposed to say, "his relationship with his wife **AND** producer Kelly McCormick" Because he was taking inferences from both personal and professional life for the role and relationship aspect of his character.

I worked on the original Fall Guy in the 80s. That was a trip. There was a serious accident in summer 1983. I really learned how terrifying stunts could be. We used a lot of stunts from existing film footage and edited them in (working on continuity was crazy!) Sometimes I’d look at a script and think it was garbage, but was always proud of the final result. Loved one episode with Roy Rogers “King of the Cowboys.”

How did you get into your job as I’m really wanting to work on sets
@TWFarr6 ай бұрын
@@JOOLSBH07 Not sure exactly. Started doing live photography and videography at a local theatre. Studied journalism at University then just started shooting comedy shorts with friends. Fast forward 10 years and I've been working in TV and film for a decade in both Camera and VFX dept. Not sure anyone could tell you how exactly it happens for anyone. You have to want to do it for a long time, and you have to sacrifice a lot of job and life security for it. Also you have to know and surround yourself with people in the industry. Not for the faint hearted. It's a brutal industry, especially now. Big feature films are a very intoxicating environment but yeah if you're considering switching careers for this industry, I'd have to say don't do it [or at least realise that it's a job like any other] Good days, bad days etc.

It is weird that they don’t have their own Oscar category. On the other hand, if they did, about 50 stunt men/women would die every year in elaborate stunts the studios pushed for in order to get that Oscar. Like acting where loud, weight gain/loss gets wins more often over quiet, story-driven acting, the award would quickly become, who got closer to dying and there would be no other time for anyone else in the in-memoriam section of the evening.
@FrameVoyager6 ай бұрын
I mean Tom Cruise does that anyways lmao. The stunts they do are already fairly dangerous, but they also get no recognition for them.
@TWFarr6 ай бұрын
Having casting directors added to the Oscars is fucking insane. They don't do anything of merit. I know a lot of them, and they agree. They may as well have a Unit oscar category or an award for catering.

I still think you could make a series of movies around a stunt man where each movie has this looming "super stunt" that might actually kill him, and the majority of the rest of the film is just interpersonal drama and dealing with production issues

You might just notice an awkward cut in the 11:00 minute mark area. Just wanted to let you know that's what it was haha Usually we let these videos sit on our KZbin account for a while to just make sure no copyright claims come through and edit if they do, I've just never had one come through 9 hours after we've released a video before.

Is it possible that the release of Refn’s Drive has played a (small) part in the fact the project stayed in development hell (since it’s essentially the story of a stuntman doing another job by night, with the twist being that this job is not being a bounty hunter but more being on the other end of said bounty… I know you know the film but still) ?
@FrameVoyager6 ай бұрын
haha could be! I actually forgot about that film and that Ryan Gosling was in it! Man, I would have mentioned this in the video too. I'm still not sure it affected it too much since they were still talking about the film in 2013. So I think there was probably enough distance at that point. My guess is the people attached to the project got pulled into other things. I think that's around the time Dwayne Johnson started really blowing up and getting signed to all of those movies.

There's one glaring error in a lot of stunt-scenes though. The "fake" camera car is driving around with lights on. They don't do that. In fact, they usually tape up the lights to reduce reflections.
