Though in a realistic sense the father isn't wrong. If you take it that he wanted his sons life to mean something, for him to do something meaningful. If you look at it that way then throwing a football around is useless, it's just entertainment, a game. A luxury afforded only to a peaceful and rich society. When times get tough those footballers have to do something different. And they live in a world where times are constantly tough in this story. Villains and supervillains are constantly wrecking everything. Cyborg's father was working on things for the betterment of humanity. From his perspective his son is pursing a useless life of entertainment. By comparison Cyborg is indulging in the fruits of a prosperous society instead of contributing to it. If you try and look through the fathers eyes things start to make a lot more sense. Yeah it's still kinda sad but if you're trying to balance "work on saving humanity" with "watch a bunch of dudes throw around a ball and tackle each other for no other reason than because other people like watching them do it." Well, it's hard not to agree with the father.

The fatal injury was his own fault, but becoming Cyborg was entirely his father's fault for not being able to accept the consequences of his neglectful behavior towards his son, and choosing to test a Mother Box in the hopes it might somehow save him, without thinking about the consequences of that. It took his son literally dying in front of him for him to care, and his first instinct was to try to revive him with alien tech against the advice of his colleague.

Honestly, I’m split on it. While his father SHOULD’VE been more supportive, at the same time, Cyborg was a teenager and football player, at that age, it’s pivotal for a young man to explore the world and gain his own knowledge so he can form the man he wants to be. Him being upset at his dad for working all the time is understandable, but he should’ve appreciated the life he had. His life wasn’t horrible. He definitely didn’t deserve what happened, but he also could’ve appreciated where he was in life a bit more. I like the character more and more as the years go by, and I like that he’s given depth, along with various cool designs.

I understand what you mean and for the most part I agree, I understand he should’ve been more accepting but at the same time, it’s hard to be happy with your own accomplishments when the man who raised you considers it a literal joke and tells you that directly to your face. As a teenager it’s pretty valid that that’d hurt the boy, honestly just feel bad for him though i think pulling that glowing blue thing out was a little unwise- he had no idea what it could do and even if it didn’t blow up it might’ve been damaged and would further mess up their relationship

@@cottonrain520 that’s a great take. I understand what you mean. I think I maybe forgot what it was like to be a kid and wanting to feel connected to others. Growing up, I made peace with a lot of things, which was good for me, personally, but now I’m very detached from certain feelings I used to relate to. I’m glad you responded to me, this is an interesting and important topic, as far as communication and connection with loved ones, and at what point does it not matter.
