The Creativity in Richmond (South Africa)

Linda and Uwe travelled through Richmond in November 2020, and found a hidden gem in the Central Karoo of the Northern Cape. They never expected to see such a wealth of creativity, art exhibits and collections in this small, dusty town just off of the N1 highway in the middle of South Africa.
They stayed in a beautiful, spacious house on the MAPSA (Modern Art Project of South Africa) grounds, which is also home to a fantastic art collection owned by Harrie Siertsema.
MAPSA, founded by Harrie and artist/curator Abrie Fourie, is a registered non-profit organisation with the aim to promote and support contemporary art and develop a rich and diverse community of artists in South Africa.
Uwe and Linda interviewed Mongezi Ncombo, who is the project manager for one of MAPSA's community projects - The Richmond Bookbinding Project. Mongezi is a resident artist at MAPSA, and the Dynamic Duo had a great time learning about the project and exploring the small town of Richmond.

I wish I could learn your filming skills… did you go to film school ?

I have never been to film school. In fact, I was medic in the film industry for 6 years, and I loved everything that happened behind the scenes. I have just been learning as I go, and I watch tutorials for inspiration. Joining the LCA was a big step with regards to trying to get some "official" learning behind the craft :) This particular video was the first project that I directed. The majority of footage was done by a friend of mine, Anya. We also get a professional editor to edit the footage to create this video. My girlfriend and I started Go Adventure in the beginning of 2020. It is an app-based travel company. One of our other passions is to travel around South Africa and create short films of interesting people that we come across on our journey. This video was the 2nd one that we created. The other one is on our channel called "The Artist in Baardskeerdersbos".
