Interesting because for me this movie passed the sniff test. I recognised some of the flaws or are least unexplained aspects as I watched it, but I found the story so compelling on an emotional level that I was completely on board and found myself not caring about plot holes. I found myself believing the world I was presented with, and willing to assume there were reasons behind ask the unexplained aspects of the world. E.g. I imagine something about the fact that New Asia is at war with the USA is behind the robots living as fishermen. The robots also eat food - so that might make them dependent on the economic system like other organic beings are.

Two words: 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 #𝐫𝐚𝐩! I don't leave movie reviews, but to save you the money and time and the Brain-poking here it is: Exclude the graphics, the fight scenes and the acting, and you have a cartoon suited for 5 year-olds. I am not spoiling the movie it was spoiled from the get go. 1) So the western world is on a campaign to eradicate AI, machinery with capacity to behave like humans, because of an atomic detonation that wiped of the great Los Angeles area, which was not the AI's fault per se, since it was "A HUMAN CODE ERROR" in the first place, even though such a human code error could easily take place either accidently or on purpose INVOLVING THE USE OF AI! 2) The military is portrayed as the bad actor for going after the AI, is it though? Or is the military as an industry and mechanism shown to work for the good of humanity as far as the plot of this flick goes? 3) Humans in the Far East area, where the plot takes place are protected by AI to a point of altruism and self sacrifice, whereas westerners don't hesitate to kill humans, adults and children, indiscriminately since they are holed up with their AI buddies? 4) The "hero" of the movie after his warning shot to the knee of his fellow American comrade, executes him point blank to save a robot with the face of a child, goes to extreme lengths to sabotage the mission and sacrifices his own life after wasting time and effort to hijack a plane and reach the multi-billion dollar ship that hovers over the earth and discovers and destroys the AI! Think of Tic Toc and the American patriotic advertisement and you get the picture. Would the acceptance for the AI propaganda work, even if you don't have the brain of a 5 year old? Apparently so for a recent commentator in the New York times who stated in THE TITLE: ‘𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫’ 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐎𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐀.𝐈." Well friend, you need to watch the "𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫" series a few more times. Now that there was indeed a more realistic movie about how the whole AI Fiasco will turn out. Personally, I couldn't wait for "Dune" to end being that I wasn't watching it alone. The Graphics of "the Creator" will keep things from going absolutely boring till your stomach turns; it may have been the bouncing seat, but for me, Mel Gibson's "The Million Dollar Hotel" is not the worst movie I have ever seen any more.

Ill say, as someone who agrees with James, that you should still see the movie. Its a decent experience and the visuals are definitely cool. All of that said, my 9 yr old, my wife and I all had the same exact reaction as James about the first 1/3rd being the best and the final 3rd being downright "bad". I really wasnt expecting this to be such a familiar Disney film since it is a unique story... Its just not that unique. It fits right into the backbone of any old marvel or DC film. The villian, the forced tear jerk scenes, the child savior... its all Disney framework. I hope you see it, and I hope you enjoy it more than we did. I will certainly grab the 4KUHD disc just to better appreciate the cinematography and design on my OLED. Maybe Ill enjoy it morr with a better expectation level. Cheers!

I think in general the best creators are novel, comicbook, videogame and tv series writers. Maybe give them enough resources to make live action adaptations of their works?? I'm so disilusioned with live action films, I think the short format storytelling is too limiting. All the best stories I've experienced were long format. There are just too many narrative techniques that can only be properly or entirely executed with enough time.

Agree with all of these points on plot holes and pacing issues but I could have got past this if the acting from John David Washington wasn't completely woeful. The Alphie character and portrayal was also insufferable.

Wasn't expecting this movie to be original or set the sci Fi bar high I still thoroughly enjoyed it it had a decent story, there was emotional moments that hit me. Visually we know it's phenomenal. Was let down by the score cause it was done by Hans Zimmer.the music wasn't at all memorable an had artist tracks thrown in randomly that did work but no eargasms. I'll give this film 7 out of 10.

Hmm, this is not what I wanted to hear. Still plan on going, to reward the makers of original SF. It's a shame if the third act was rushed by studio involvement. Do you think that maybe this had been better as a miniseries on a streaming platform, not cutting emotional content? Empire magazine gave this movie 4 out of 5 stars, and they are mostly honest and dependable, so I'm gonna take a shot at watching it.

Having just watched, I’ll agree with the overall sentiments. While ok don’t think it was as poor of a film as James did, it felt devoid of something. It never developed a personality as a story. Though District 9 came to mind, as with many others, I think a better visual and tonal comparison would be Oblivion. Similar pacing and slow burn/grandiose setting. But I think this film failed to come close to living up to either whichever way you want to go. And while in retrospect a lot does happen in that third act, they managed to make it feel slower and fuller than the rest of the film. I’d give it a 6.5/10 tops.

I will see this when it comes out on DVD. I have to say that I saw "The Creator" with Peter O'Toole when it came out, and I really liked it. Peter O'Toole made interesting role choices in the '80's and 90's. I am the audience for sci-fi, and I'll watch movies that are indisputably sci-fi (under most circumstances) even if they aren't very good.

I haven't watched it. I may or may not like it. But here's my take on the problem with many films nowadays dealing with AI. They swing the pendulum to the other extreme and insist too much upon themselves which leads to poor execution. Whereas before, you had written fiction and movies give a negative take on AI, the pendulum has been swinging to the other direction. It makes sense given the times we live in. However, it all seems too forced. Humans bad, AI good and misunderstood. We saw this in the Animatrix short of how the Matrix came to be. But there, it was well executed via animation. Still, it seemed a bit forced at times and too one sided (but it can be forgiven given it was from the machines' POV).

I feel like a lot of the time when there is genuinely original SFF on the screen not related to a pre-existing IP (which to me doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t original; works of people like Jonathan Glazer, Lynne Ramsay, Kubrick, Tarkovsky, and Denis Villeneuve show that you can do really unique and idiosyncratic stuff with pre-existing IP) and it does well in terms of viewing figures and critical reception, people are too quick to either cut/kill it before its time, like with The OA and Raised by Wolves (#SaveTheOA #RenewRaisedbyWolves) or just paradoxically act like it doesn’t exist. There are some notable exceptions to this of course, like the movies of Hayao Miyazaki or TV series like Dark, but it seems like much of the time people have this weird state of denial going on.

There are some shockingly bad movies coming out lately. I looked up a couple of new ones the other day, and each had about 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's a sign of the rot that has set in at many movie studios where a 'production line' mentality has set in that seeks to churn out movies for a zombie audience rather than take some risks and tell an interesting story. I've been watching many free short movies on KZbin lately that are far more engaging. Something has to change with big budget movies, and writers being paid fairly is no doubt part of the answer.

It was meh. Nice visuals, nice action. But it's commentary on AI and humanity was... strange. It's America bad narrative, regardless of your frustration in politics, was trash. It's AI good, feel bad for AI is strange. If it's supposed to be an allegory to us losing our humanity I guess..... You could see it as an analogy, symbolism.... But films like TERMINATOR 1 AND 2 and BLADE RUNNER especially * have better commentary about AI and the loss of our humanity without being so nihilistic like this thing of a movie. It's a nice sci-fi action flick to watch when you're bored. Not an excellent sci-fi action movie that makes you think like the other films mentioned. The first Blade Runner makes The Creator look like an MCU-esque sci-fi movie on AI. Where Blade Runner is actually probably the best sci-fi movie on AI becoming more human and humans losing their humanity; without all the nihilistic, pseudo sentimentalism on the AI stuff.
